He would fall asleep that night with his phone in his hands, expecting Serena's call or better still expecting her to show up, but by the next morning, he woke up alone in bed.

He looked at the time and realized that he had to get the kids ready for school as fast as he could or else they would be late.

'Where the hell are you, Serena? Please come back,' he told himself.

That day, Eric realized for the first time how tough it was to take care of the kids.

He didn't doubt for once that he had underestimated Serena's role in the house, and he wondered how strong she was to be working and taking care of the family as well.

He drove the kids to school and repeatedly tried to call Serena's phone.

He heard the phone ring and the call connected, but he hadn't said anything before he saw the phone's screen go blank before his eyes.

'She disconnected,' he told himself as he tried to light up the screen.
