"I know you're annoyed. We'll talk about this tomorrow," Karen said, leaving. Sam didn't answer her.

He was a year older than her, and so while Karen was waiting to join college, Sam was already in college. Their breakup had been during his short break home, and when he got back to college, Karen never heard from or saw him until years later when he appeared at her and Val's dinner table.

Present time

Arnold sat outside Trevor's office, waiting for Carina to come out. He was glad Carina was livening up a little and that Trevor had been of real help.

Inside Trevor's office, Carina narrated all her horrible experiences with Mercy.

"I think she picks up on me. I just don't know why," Carina said sadly.

"Do you think she does that to the other children as well?" Trevor asked.

"No. I think it's only me. No one suffers like me. I have thought of running away from that place, but I don't have anywhere to go," Carina said.
