Chapter 55
Jayde woke up slowly, feeling groggy and confused. Her body still hurt really bad as well, though it wasn’t as bad as it had been. She still couldn’t open up her eyes very far, and her eyelids felt sticky. She experimentally moved her fingers, wincing at the twinge of pain but grateful they weren’t three themes their normal size anymore. They were still swollen but she could curl her fingers in about halfway now.
She became aware of movement to her right and slowly turned her head towards it. It was dark in the room as she squinted her eyes open, but it looked like there was a night light of sorts on the opposite side of the room. The shape of someone moving around was a fuzzy blur.
“Ah, she’s awake, sir.”
A soft female voice spoke from right by the bed, startling Jayde. She jerked, gasping in both fright and pain. The shape she had seen in the soft glow of light stopped moving for a second, then walked to the bed.
