Derek was already standing inside the round wooden gazebo when Megan arrived at the backyard. It was windy and the trees and ornamentals complemented the serenity of the yard, it was beautiful and the air was fresh but Megan no longer found the yard special as she used to because she had now seen something more better to adore. She stood there for a while to idolize the man inside the gazebo.
Megan smiled awkwardly when Derek caught her stare, she instantly blushed. She breathed in and out and finally walked into the gazebo and stood beside Derek.
"It's beautiful, isn't it?"
Megan was the first to speak, she looked ahead, she was referring to the trees and flower plants around. The wind was blowing around and making her brown hair messy. She was really curious about what Derek wanted to talk about.
"It's how you choose to see it."
Derek replied without interest, he seemed bored and wanted to finish with things as fast as possible.
"Oh…you don't think it's beautiful?"
Megan asked, she turned to face Derek with a frown on her face. She was wondering what could be going on in Derek's head. It was difficult to understand him, he never missed a chance to shock her with his change of demeanor, and that was the more reason why she liked him.
"Tell your father we can't get married."
After Derek dropped the bomb, everywhere became silent. Megan felt her heart summersaulted as Derek's words kept ringing in her ears. Was she beginning to hear things?
"Pardon?"
She whispered loudly, Megan fully turned to face Derek, she looked at his side view in disbelief as she was still finding what he said very difficult to digest.
"We can't get married, I want you to pass this message to your father, and this would be the last time I'll come here again, he shouldn't bother calling me here next time, good day."
Derek said without looking at Megan, he was about to walk out of the gazebo when Megan's voice made him stop.
"Pass what message to my father? And you think it will just end there? Why? You're being so cowardly because you can't face my father. Wouldn't it be better if you told him yourself?"
Megan's voice was shaky as she shouted. Her eyes welled up as she held in the tears that were threatening to fall out. Derek stopped and turned to face Megan.
"Am afraid, I might end up saying cruel things to him considering how stubborn he is. And I already have someone I'll be getting married to."
Megan was in shock, the tears she was trying to hold back rolled down her cheeks but she wiped it with the back of her fingers and ran towards Derek when she saw him leaving.
"Wait wait! Can you at least tell me the reason why? I mean, this marriage is also for your benefit too. Your forty percent shares will be increased to fifty percent, isn't it good enough?"
Megan tried to convince Derek as she stood before him, blocking him from moving further.
"Are you selling yourself to me for fifty percent shares of my father's very own establishment? Fine, it's for my own benefit, let's just say that's the case, but what will you get from getting married to me? Because I certainly have nothing to give."
Derek asked as he crouched down a little bit to Megan's height.
Megan was left speechless at Derek's words. She didn't expect him to use her own words against her. She looked away from him and tried to come up with a reply but Derek pushed her aside and walked pass her. She immediately fell to the ground and started weeping. So that was it? She lost?
Ever since she found out she was going to get married to Derek Gorge, she couldn't contain herself. She worked harder learn a lot just to impress Derek, but it turned out that everything was for a waste?
"He had been cheating on me after knowing we were supposed to get married?! And who the hell is that bitch that dare steal him away from me?!"
Megan screamed at the top of her voice as she wept bitterly. Because of Derek Gorge, she never dated any guy, she turned down any suitor and refused any potential boyfriend that would court her in the past, just so she would be a loyal woman for Derek, but Derek wasn't thinking the same as her.
She clenched her hands on her chest as she kept wailing. Mr Beth was looking at his daughter crying bitterly on the floor from the window of his room, his face looked blank, what was he thinking?
