Hell's Emissary - The Legendary Tamer

My skin bears reminders of yesterday. They are roadside markers of my trips and falls, remnants I intend to burn to ashes, place in an urn and bury somewhere. People tell me to move on. Build a bridge. Get over it. When you clench your teeth and forge ahead you convince yourself the mind can be a clean slate untainted by dark colors of past trauma. You pretend that your skies will always be clear. A palette of gold and red, sunrise and sunset. Yet in sunshine a dark shadow lingers behind us every step. Our shadow wilfully follows, keeps pace with every step. I unclenched my teeth, ran my fingers along my scars. They whispered to me. I listened. I held hands with my shadow, now we walk together. Some scars never heal but how else could I know the way forward?.. So, I claim this body, this mind, this life as my own. And while I wish to share this life in kindness, compassion and empathy with others, I will not hesitate to defend when threatened. ... "...and when you wake in the morning finding that you still lie in hell, lick your lips, spit on the flames, and walk on through the fire."

The Legendary Lance

Dawn finally set in and I woke up with a feeling like I had just worked in the mines for the whole night.

A slight tingling breath was continuously assaulting my neck which made me frown as I looked downwards.

And there she was, The Dark Princess, sleeping comfortably on my chest. I extracted myself carefully cause I didn't want to wake her up from her sleep and placed her on the other side of the small bed.

"I love you... I love you..." Nevaeh purred her face blooming with a smile.

"I just love being with you." She continued as she brushed her hand to hold me but I was fast enough to dodge it well.

Crack! Crack!

With the sudden movement, I heard my bones cracking as if they were being crushed. I wondered at that moment that how was I going to fight for my life when I had several broken bones in my body.

The pain was there but compared to how I felt yesterday, I believed that I was in a better state than I was yesterday.

I took a glance across the room as different kinds of emotions filled my body. I felt just the smallest hints of pain in my body as I tiptoed out the door.

Upon opening it, I nearly bumped into Toothless's sister. She was carrying a cup that let out a fragrant medicinal aroma. At least I now knew that there were some things that varied from good to bad but all carried the same purpose.

"Eew! Be careful Lucifer, this is so expensive." The young lady said as she adjusted her footing and held the cup with the other hand.

"Is that mine?" I asked as I looked up at the young lady who seemed to be taller and older than I was.

"No, there is a cup by the table. And hurry up, Lola will be here any time now. We have to get you..." Her speech came to a standstill as tears fell down her delicate face.

Seeing that I was starring at her, she turned and headed into the room and closed the door behind her.

I turned and carried my heavy but steady feet to the nearest vacant table and waddled myself before taking a look around the house again.

I could notice that it was spotless than when I saw it last time. And also the smell seemed to have reduced to a certain degree.

Two cups were set beside a plate that carried a magnificent feast. One of the cups was steaming and I reached for it before taking a sip. Fresh and minty taste pasted itself in my mouth as I gulped the tea down my throat graciously. With that, I reached for the drumsticks and started to eat as I also knew that this was probably my last meal in this life.

Bang!

Boom!

The door swung open and I saw my mom walk in out of breath.

Upon seeing me, she strode forward and hugged me tight lifting me into the air in the process.

"This is embarrassing, and you're hurting me." I lamented as she set me down before looking me in the eyes.

"It doesn't matter to me, you are my boy and no one will ever take that place in my heart." My mother said as she caressed my face.

I couldn't help but just stand there and let her do what she felt like. It was weird as I didn't remember anything concerning my mother and I. My mind was just blank and I started filling in the loopholes when I awoke in the cell the day before yesterday.

She then continued as I could also feel that this was the last time that I'll ever see her. "Sit down, I have something to give to you and also a story to tell. These will be my farewell gifts to you. Listen careful son..."

"Once upon a time, one of your great-great-grandma was out to fight with the knights of another Kingdom...

She was one mean of a knight and had the highest honor in the Kingdom... So long story short, when they were in the middle of killing each other in the battle, something shot from the skies and was headed to their location. It looked like a falling star but at the same time was releasing a powerful energy that made the still warriors who were still alive to scatter for fear that they would be vaporized when the thing touched down...

All ran away except one, your grandma. She was the one brave enough to face her enemies head-on and with that she found the lance standing straight just above the grass...

It was like something invincible was making it float, the air around it was cool and welcoming but at the same time chaotic and disturbing...

She approached with caution and took a hold of it with both of her hands. And the story says that upon touching it, a wave of energy coursed through her body making her float into the air for a few seconds before everything cooled down, but at the end, she had this lance and made it our family heirloom..." My mother explained as she pointed at the long bundle that she entered with. It was carefully wrapped in a porcelain cloth and I took it that that was the lance she was talking about.

"The story continues to say that also she could command the lance with just the flick of her thought. And also do many things with it...

And today, am giving it to you so that it can help you in your coming fight. You must be brave and courageous like our ancestors...

Goodbye, my lovely son..." My mother finished as she hugged me tight again before telling me to continue eating.

As I was getting dressed up, there was a knock at the door and two knights stormed in before standing on both sides of the door.

I guess it was time. Time to be escorted to the arena.

"Mom, is it time already? I think it's still so early, everyone's probably sleeping at the moment." I asked as fear clouded my heart making my knees give in.

"You must be present even before the arena gates are opened. Be strong my son and remember that I will always love you." She comforted me as she saw the fear oozing out from every pore on my body.

"It's time, Lucifer." One of the knights decided to speak as they saw that no one spoke to them since they entered the chambers.

I turned and picked up the long bundle before looking back at my mother again and Toothless's sister who was coming out from the inner room.

"Goodbye." I mouthed before leading the way out of the house.

...

The knights left me in a small cell and locked me in as they had other duties to attend to and couldn't babysit me until the time arrived.

On the way here which took almost a quarter of an hour, I saw the huge and magnificent structure probably the one which they referred to as the arena.

I haven't seen a building this large before. And I was so thrilled to explore it but given the circumstances that I was in, I could only curse and accept whatever I was to face.

Unwrapping the bundle, a dazzling silver lance exposed itself as it made the small dark cell be bathed up by the light that it released.

Some carvings were beautiful grafted on the surface which made me curious. The lance was made of a silver metallic substance, then how were the curvings engraved on it? The light disappeared slowly leaving only a long shiny lance on the dirty floor.

I picked it up and released it at once as the feeling that it gave me was just like death was smiling at me.

I clutched my hand and saw that a burning effect was perfectly engraved on my palm with some strange symbols that shone with the same silver light as the one that the lance displayed.

I was so engrossed in my situation to even take notice that the lance didn't hit the floor when I dropped it, rather it started to rise slowly until it was perfectly floating vertically.

I looked at the lance and my palm only to notice that the symbols shone one after another and with each shining up, it would be copied to my palm before it disappeared.

I was thankful that at that moment, I was the only one present, or whoever was to just witness what I saw would have freaked out and run away probably calling me names that were all the same be heartening.

I subconsciously raised my hand and the lance flew towards it and stuck itself perfectly with the tip looking down towards the floor.

A pillar of silver light covered my whole body before I was lifted in the air for a couple of seconds.

I was so excited that I started commanding it with my mind just like how my mother explained earlier.

At first, it was so hard but as time went by, I could even make it vanish into thin air. And with a satisfied smile on my face, I longed for the battle that I was to face with the beasts.

Then all of a sudden, I heard the clapping sounds from a distance and a smooth voice followed closely.
