Sam was standing opposite Mel, the leader of the twenty-person ward. Even though Mel was paving the way for them, the others were used to doing what he said, and this time nothing would change.
"We will sit by the wall!"
Sam didn't want to get off the speeding train, not knowing when it would slow down, but instinct must have told him it wasn't time yet, so they decided to go where Mel pointed and wait until morning.
The looks of some of the Ninth Ward's students indicated that they did not like this decision, especially those who were more potent than the others who were having a hard time accepting it. Still, they did as Sam told them to go to the wall and stood up to avoid getting their clean clothes dirty.
"Let's at least dismantle some of those boards to get some fresh air in!"
