What is marriage?

It's like changing dimensions because suddenly the sun has appeared from the east. Yue groaned feeling her muscles stiffen. The girl opened her eyes. The roof of the temple became a sight she always saw every time she woke up. She hopes to one day open her eyes and find herself in heaven.

Yue rubbed her eyes. She remembered what happened last night. It made her realize that she remained confined in the temple, alone and terrified.

A bird perched on the window. His little head turned, surveying the entire temple.

Yue walked over to the window. As she walked to a sunny spot, she suddenly raised her hand to protect her eyes. "The glare," she mumbled.

Yue stepped back. Her eyes blinked. She had lived long enough, but her eyes still couldn't stand the sun.

"I am indeed cursed. I am a curse."

In solitude, the white-haired girl lamented her situation. Her white hair was like that of a ghost, thus frightening everyone, these red eyes were like devil eyes and this pale skin made her look like an undead.

Suddenly, two servants opened the temple door. Both of them had sharp eyes. However, after that, they shuddered to see a white figure sitting with their backs to them.

"W-we're not going to die, are we?"

"I don't know... let's finish this job quickly."

The two maids walked over to Yue. They hugged each other to protect each other.

"What do you want?" Without turning his head, Yue asked.

The servant who tried to be brave, replied, "We have orders from His Majesty to take you."

"Really? Maybe His Majesty will kill me. That's good."

The servant swallowed hard. She was surprised by Yue's words. If counted from the day of the Empress' execution, Yue was now fifteen years old. It seemed that people's accusations and hatred shaped Yue's character.

"His Majesty is waiting for you," Yue said.

The maids gasped, then frantically searched for equipment to dress Yue. They bathed her in rose water, washed her hair, and dressed her for the bride.

"This dress is so beautiful. It will be an unforgettable memory."

After she finished, Yue looked at herself in the mirror. The red dress with gold embroidery was too flashy against her pale skin. Even so, she smiled at the kindness the Emperor had given her.

"Mom, I'll be right over," she said.

With her head covered in red cloth, Yue walked out of the temple. On his right and left two servants led her to walk toward the palace hall.

In the palace hall, the nobles gathered. They were curious about the face of the Monstrous White who became the disgrace of the empire.

When Yue stood in the center of the hall, people were scrambling to talk about the girl.

"She's here, she's here. Gosh, that's awful. That hand skin color is that of a corpse."

"I heard her eyes are red. If we meet her eyes, our souls will be sold to the devil."

"How can she go to the Southern kingdom where Prince Huang lives?"

The commotion that people were making made Yue wonder. What does it mean by going to the Southern kingdom? Wouldn't she be executed? Yue tried to peek, but suddenly the Emperor spoke.

"Today is a happy day. Because the princess of this kingdom, Yue, is married to the second prince of the Southern kingdom. I hope that with this marriage, the relationship between the two kingdoms will be closer."

"Princess Yue? I don't remember this empire having that princess."

"Second prince? Could it be Prince Huang's younger brother who never left the palace?"

"Sacrificing one princess for another."

While people were confused by the Emperor's announcement, Yue was thinking about the meaning of the word married. There used to be a nanny who taught her grammar. However, the nanny was dead and hadn't had time to teach her about it.

"Congratulations, Your Majesty. I hope so too. The two kingdoms will unite," said Prince Huang.

Behind Prince Huang, Lanhua squeezed her handkerchief. He was torn between being angry or happy. Prince Huang didn't marry her, but Monstrous White left.

Prince Huang looked straight at Yue. When he saw the girl's hands, he agreed with people's opinion about the pale skin like a corpse. He turned around, then asked permission. "Your Majesty, this prince asks for permission to escort his sister-in-law. Best wishes to you, and may you live for the next 1000 years."

"Very well, Prince."

The prince bowed respectfully once again. After he got up, he briefly glanced at Lanhua. Lanhua immediately felt awkward in her chair.

The horse carriage stopped in front of the hall door. The wooden carriage was decorated with red cloth and ornaments. People were amazed when they saw it. Some thought the Mysterious White had a blessing. While the others were busy mocking.

"A luxurious carriage for the Curse. How could she deserve it?" A noble wearing a green hanfu was observing the horse carriage while stroking his long beard.

Yue could hear his insults. However, she ignored it. She had heard it for years.

The maid who came with Yue pulled the girl towards the carriage. Yue stepped inside the carriage and sat down. At this time, she doesn't know what's going on. Unable to contain her curiosity any longer, Yue asked a maid, "What exactly happened? Where am I going with this thing?"

Inwardly, the maid wondered if perhaps Yue didn't know about marriage customs. "Princess, you are going to the Southern kingdom to meet your partner," she replied softly.

Yue sighed. The servant didn't give her the answer she needed.

Prince Huang joined the bridal party. He rode a horse that had been prepared. At that very moment, Lanhua's feelings were mixed. She was relieved that Yue would leave this land. She also avoided marrying the second prince. Instead, for the next two months, Yue and Prince Huang would be together on a trip. Lanhua was so displeased that she couldn't think of anything else.
