Jade Emperor - Ruler of the Heavens (for the purpose of this story) Jade Emperor is a title and not a name.

Siming - as Director of Destinies, Master of Fates, and so on, has the bureaucratic function of human lifespan allocation. Again, Siming is a title, not his name.

Guqin - Seven string instrument, sometimes translated as zither, even though the two ar nothing alike and produce completely different sounds. It's long and made of several types of wood, can be played on the players lap or on a low table.
