Chapter 17 – Clinically Insane?

Hisashi ignored that comment. He had a feeling sneaking behind would likely get him killed, "You always gave off that vibe."

"Where are others?"

"Takashi is waking the girls," Hisashi looked at the sun at the peak of the day, using his palm for shade, "To think there would be side-effects of levelling too fast."

"Yeah, everyone needs rest to accept the energy. I have trained for as long as I remember, so I managed to get it over with exercise. They had to sleep through it though," Aurum nonchalantly mentioned, sighing, "they could have slept in one or two rooms, yet they made me clean one for them all. You guys too, I heard you slept in private rooms?"

He innocently looked back, seeing their startled look, as they looked away, not meeting his eyes. If they had enough guts to look at his face, then they would have noticed how hard he was trying to act innocent and not smile. He turned his head back, hearing their voices.

"Ahem, I think everyone wanted some privacy," Hisashi cleared his throat, "I have heard about Parade of Hundred Demons…is it something like that?"

"No, this is worse," Aurum gave him the binoculars, while Hirano set up his rifle to look through the scope, both of them fixing their gaze on the hundreds of zombies walking forward. They looked at them from front to back, and while their numbers were large, increasing even, they didn't seem that much of a threat.

"I am sure we can take care of them?"

"Yeah, we can. I even came up with a counter-measure. If we sacrifice the bus, then we can connect last of grenades with the wires, and throw the bus towards zombie crowd with something like a radio or speaker inside. Once the zombies enter it, all we have to do is pull the wire and kill them all. The last of them we can pick off," Aurum leaned over the ledge, scratching his cheek.

"We don't have wires," Kohta was in charge of managing all the weapons while Saya was in charge of handling their rations and drops from the zombies.

"Do we have enough grenades?" Hisashi confirmed, who shook his head, shrugging.

"Then we…"

"Guys, guys. Did you use your boxes? I provided you with weapons so no one had to use those weapon boxes, right?"

"Huh…oh, yeah! WE can use them!" Kohta buoyed up, "I was so nervous that I forgot using them and then Saya told me to make the nail gun so I got too excited! I never used it! You want me to use that for a grenade? That seems to be a waste."

"Yeah, a grenade launcher would be much better or rocket launcher if we need it," Aurum rubbed his chin, "that is, if it can provide such things. The point is there are methods and ways to do that. But…all these would only work on mindless zombies."

"Mindless," Kohta muttered those words, "Are you saying!"

He jerked his head, looking through the scope when Aurum guided him and Hisashi who was doing the same thing, "Look at the front of the crowd. That bastard managed to become troublesome even in death. The fucking shithead won't die."

Hisashi gripped his binoculars, looking towards the leader of zombies in disgust, "is that?"

Aurum rested his cheek on the palm of his head, "I have been curious for a while. What happens to zombies when they die…and what happens when they reach Level 11. Do they gain abilities like some humans do? Are those the zombies who have the potential to gain a skill drop those skills books. There is so much I want to know about how the system works. And there is a way to find the answer of one of those questions…but it's disgusting."

"Don't! If that is related to that man! Then don't do it! You don't know how much he hurt Rei!"

"I know," Aurum looked towards Hisashi from the corner of his eyes, ignoring his shocked look, "I found it strange when Rei got held back. I did a little investigation since I didn't want anyone dangerous around Eve. Hah…I can't explain. What I am saying is if Rei wants revenge, then she should be looking for his father and not him."

"I don't understand you," Hisashi ground his teeth, clenching his fist, "From the beginning! You knew something about this! And you managed to prepare weapons that are strictly controlled in our country! Where did you even got those! And don't use Eve as an excuse!! Those skills you have! Who the hell are you!"

"Hisashi, that is going too far," Kohta tried to interfere when Hisashi pushed him back, causing him to fall on his butt.

"I don't know. If I say that, then would it satisfy you?" Aurum casually answered. He narrowed his crystal blue eyes, "Ever since I reached Level 11…I have been asking that same question. Who the hell am I?"

"Enough, you two!" Kohta climbed on his feet. Shouting, "We can't spend time fighting each other!"

He pushed Hisashi towards the door, "Let's go, Hisashi! We should inform others!"

Hisashi glared at Aurum for a moment before he grunted and walked towards the exit from the roof, "Fine."

Kohta apologetically looked towards Aurum, making sure that Hisashi walked away. The two of them left the roof, but he could still see the anger on Hisashi's face, who growled, "You shouldn't have stopped me."

"But there is no reason to fight again him. We all want the same thing," Kohta helplessly smiled.

"I don't trust him. If only he had told us that there was a zombie apocalypse! I! I!"

'I see…' Kohta looked at Hisashi's back, 'he thinks he would have believed Aurum and protected his family.'

"Oh! I forgot my gun! I will be right back!" Kohta didn't want to say anything about that. He knew better than anyone else. No one would have believed if someone said to them that there is a zombie apocalypse tomorrow, 'thinking that they would have…they are deluding themselves.'

He reached the entrance to the roof when he heard Aurum's voice.

"What do you guys think? Would this work?"

"It could, right…but that's the problem. Should I? He's not wrong. Rei would be furious."

"Yeah, yeah. I know I am going to get stabbed in the back sooner or later."

"No need to warm me about that. I thought of it."

"Hah, this is a huge turning point. How about we take votes?"

Kohta took the step back, looking towards the door in suspicion, 'what the hell…who is he talking to?'

"What? Someone is at the gate? Oh, Kohta, is that you?"

Kohta Hirano widened his eyes. He took a few steps back, and before he even knew it, he was running down the stairs, covering his mouth so as not to scream, 'Aurum…could he be…clinically insane?!'
