Chapter 11 - Scary Possibilites

[Important Note - I loved writing. I hate paperwork. Which is what it feels like when I have to upload so many chapters. I have already written 60,000 words in the novel. I am currently writing the pre-climax arc for the novel. (So much sex in that one.)

Ahem, the important part is, that everything till Chapter 34 has been uploaded on my Buy me a Coffee page. You can get the link in the subscriptions.

Read ahead or support me out of the kindness of your heart. Whichever works for you. Do buy. ^^]

"Zombies on the horizon on this side."

"Nothing on this side," Takashi walked towards Aurum, using binocular they got from a zombie drop to look in the distance. Since these had night vision, he could see zombies coming towards them, "Did they hear something?"

"Probably because of the small noises I made when cleaning the car," Aurum scratched his cheek, "this is my fault. I'll deal with this."

"No need to go at it alone. I'll come with you," Takashi picked up the bat, looking towards Aurum who blankly nodded, lost in thought.

"Something bothering you?" The two of them walked down the stairs. The Zombie Farming Plan that Aurum had thought about was using noise to attract all the zombies in the building to the shoe lockers and then shoot them while being near the safe area. It only took two tries to clear most of them. The others were either trapped into the rooms or had their legs broken and couldn't crawl there in time.

At least they were able to clear one building and collect massive amounts of food, water, status cards, experiences, first-air, survivor kit, among other things. Since this place was safe, they decided to make this their base for tonight, and move out tomorrow. It was basically cheating.

"Yeah, don't you think they can hear us from so far away," Aurum peaked around the corridor, checking for zombies just in case, "I can understand that their sense of hearing has enhanced. Everyone of the zombies can pinpoint the source of voice even places like corridors where voice echoes."

"I guess…"

"But that is the thing. Being able to detect us from so far away? Something about this feels wrong," Aurum furrowed his brows, "they are coming from too far away."

Takashi stopped in the middle of the stairs. Till now, he didn't understand what he was driving to when he it hit him like a truck, "You think they are getting stronger!"

His voice echoed in the school building, seeing the crushed look in Aurum's eyes, "No worse…?"

"I can't think about how they are getting stronger," Aurum covered his face, "if they were devouring other humans or zombies, then it would have made sense. Then is it like turning them makes God grant them power? Or is it something different altogether, like…"

Takashi gave him a pissed look, "Just spit it out already!"

Aurum starched his head, "Hah, imagine this. Zombie virus appeared all over the place, it spread in the world like a fog. You get that, right?"

"Yeah, and then zombies appeared," Takashi nodded, walking down until they were on the ground floor.

"Then, these Temples appeared. Acting like Nodes. I imagine it being like a network that enveloped the whole planet mixing in with the zombie virus. Like magic circles that we see in manga, a God Network that uses Temples and Zombies as ingredients to make this a game. That's one part. The second is their bodies, which disappear."

"I figured they are being used like a bio-fuel. Assuming a human has as many experience points as needed to reach that level, then even at Level 4 or 5 they should have 200 to 300 Points. We are being given 5, and some of it must go to the bread, what about others? What if those points are going back to the network, and then equally divided between the zombies."

"It doesn't make much of a difference from one zombie…but as more and more of them are being killed…the others might be growing just as strong. Or something like that. Of course, all my theories are just that…theories, based on the fact that I think they heard us from too far away…"

"And I am babbling now," Aurum chuckled, "I mean this is just one of the many possibilities, and then who knows how God works. Or if zombies are growing stronger or not. I just have too much time on my hand."

"Yeah," Takashi tried laugh like him, feeling the weight of that thought. More zombies they killed, the stronger the rest would become? Despite gaining strength and skills, they barely managed to claim this school. And they had to constantly be on guard and fight to keep it under their control. This was when they had grown far stronger than the zombies, they had weapons and safe-zone. They had massive superiority.

'But if the zombies started growing stronger? What if they gained a skill? Then…what are we going to do then?'

"Don't worry so much about it. I mean, there are so many zombies in the world. Billions. Even if everyone is fighting back, then survivors would be in millions. Hundred million to one billion as most. Most of them wouldn't even kill a zombie, they would be safe in their own homes right now. I double more than 10 million zombies are dead as of now. When …"

"Oh, no, then again, what if division and re-division of points only centred around the temples? Then that would explain why there are so many of them," Aurum stopped, "Then, the more zombies we kill…the faster we might be inviting our deaths."

"Stop it already," Takashi grunted, scowling as he looked in the front, hastening his steps, "You are deriving this from novels and mangas, right? There is no way that magic or whatever exists like that or this is how this is working!"

"Yeah," Aurum scratched his head, finally stepping out of the building. He looked towards the car where Eve was and a sense of calmness washed over him, "that's why…I like staying beside Eve. She keeps my mind anchored rather than wandering about like this."

"Although so…Takashi. Don't underestimate human imagination," Aurum straightened his coat, checking on his guns.

"I know…someone only ever imagined the zombie apocalypse," Takashi scratched his head, carrying the baseball bat. He took the gun for just in case, though their rummaging through supplies seemed to have woken someone else.

"Did something happen," Hisashi asked, half awake.

"Zombies on the horizon. Wake others up just in case. Since we came down from the roof, there might be others who might sneak up from behind," Aurum answered while jogging towards the jeep where Eve and Saya were sitting. He was about to knock when she opened the back window. She resting arm on the frame, resting her chin on her forearm, "Big brother…are you going?"

Aurum cupped her cheek, gently running his thumb over her skin. He watched her beautiful face, her tired eyes, "Eve, get some rest."

"I'll sleep when big brother is sleeping beside me," Eve closed her eyes, feeling the warmth of his palm, "Come back room."

"Yeah, I'll be right back."
