The lawyer didn't immediately answer. Instead, he covered his phone and spoke to the person beside him for a couple of moments. Then, he turned to Su Jian and said, "Mr. Zheng Mingyang is currently at the Zijin Club. If you want to talk to him, this is your only opportunity."
Su Jian lived in Liang An County, a small town near Lingnan City. She had heard of the Zijin Club, known as the most luxurious establishment in the city. A private room there cost 100,000 dollars per night, making it a destination for the wealthy. After all, barely anyone could afford to visit such a place.
Following the directions provided by Yang, Su Jian made her way to Room 1103 on the top floor of the Zijin Club.
The corridor leading to the room was dimly lit, with a soft carpet covering the floor. As Su Jian walked along, she turned a corner and caught sight of a familiar figure emerging from a private room and heading towards the balcony on the other side. Was it just her imagination? That back view seemed to resemble her legally married husband, Jin Pingchuan.
Entering Room 1103, she was met with a cloud of smoke. The room was spacious, resembling a living room with a set of sofas. Several men, mostly in their twenties and thirties, were engaged in a lively card game, laughing and joking. Adjacent to them was a mahjong table where a group of older men were playing a spirited game.
The living room had two connected doors. One remained closed, while the other led to a teahouse. The latter door was open, allowing waitstaff to move in and out to deliver dishes. Su Jian assumed someone was inside as snippets of their conversation reached her ears.
"I didn't expect the Second Young Master to grace us with his presence for dinner. It's quite rare."
"Yes, I heard his mother is doing well in Beijing. Apart from staying in Haicheng, he often travels to Beijing. It's not easy for him to come to Lingnan City, and he doesn't usually interact with us. Whenever he's free, he spends time with his daughter..."
Su Jian didn't know who they referred to as the "Second Young Master" and didn't pay much attention to it. She mustered the courage to ask, "Excuse me, where can I find Mr. Zheng Mingyang?"
A middle-aged man with glasses, deeply engrossed in playing mahjong, turned around and looked at her. "That would be me. You must be Su Jian?"
Su Jian approached him and nodded. "Yes, could you please let me know where Mr. Zheng Mingyang is?"
As soon as she finished speaking, all eyes in the room turned towards her, some with playful expressions. Someone even shouted, "Hey, Yang, this girl is quite beautiful. Where did you find her?"
Laughter and teasing ensued. "The Second Young Master is here, and you actually dared to bring a girl. Are you looking for trouble?"
"Didn't you hear? The beauty is here to meet Zheng Mingyang. He's one lucky guy. She's quite the looker!"
Several men shamelessly stared at Su Jian, their gazes filled with impure intentions. Their disrespectful words were offensive.
Su Jian's face visibly paled. If she hadn't been hardened by the past few years, she might have turned around and left. But she couldn't let doubts get the better of her. She couldn't leave because she needed to resolve Su Xingyuan's matter.
Yang playfully scolded them, "You lot have no manners!" He stood up and asked someone to take his place. Then, he said to Su Jian, "Mr. Zheng is in the resting room. Come with me."
The closed door led to a small lounge. Yang opened it and gestured for Su Jian to enter.
Inside the lounge, four men sat around playing cards.
"Zheng, Su Jian is here," Yang announced.
The man wearing a red shirt on the east side looked up immediately. When he saw Su Jian, his eyes lit up, and he smiled. "Oh, you must be Su Jian..." This man was Zheng Mingyang, a well-known playboy. At twenty-three years old, he hadn't even finished college. He relied on his family's company for financial support, and though he was skilled in business, his personal life was far from virtuous.
Su Jian didn't recognize the other three men.
"You guys keep playing. I'm going to find Brother Jin. He's on a call with his little girl. He's been taking forever. I'll fetch him back," a bespectacled man with a distinguished appearance declared as he threw his cards onto the table and stood up.
"Alright, but don't take too long," Zheng Mingyang replied.
Strangely, as the man with glasses walked out, he cast a deep glance at Su Jian. She couldn't decipher its meaning.
Unbeknownst to Su Jian, the man with glasses was none other than Changhe. He had recognized Su Jian.
