Investigating the Household Registration

Jin Pingchuan said, "Let me know when you go out in the future. Otherwise, your family will be worried."

Su Jian paused. Was he referring to himself?

Jin Pingchuan continued, "I couldn't get through to you just now, so I called Mom. She told me that your company is having a dinner party tonight. I know that in your line of work, you have to eat with clients, but be careful. If you plan to drink, let me know in advance. Try to come back home early. Don't make Mom worry, and don't make me worry..."

He rambled on with further advice and instructions. Su Jian was astonished that he had actually called her mother. After the initial surprise, she felt a warmth spread across her chest.

"Alright, I understand." Su Jian's voice softened. "Where are you? Are you back already?"

"Yes, I just arrived at the apartment. I was about to take a shower and sleep. If you're not busy tomorrow, I'll come to see you."

"Okay."

Throughout the entire conversation, Jin Pingchuan took the lead in directing the topic. Su Jian merely responded accordingly. It felt a bit unfamiliar, but they displayed hints of a married couple. Su Jian did not dislike this phone call.

Yang Huihui was utterly surprised. She had never seen Su Jian talk on the phone for so long with a man other than her work partner. Who was that person on the other end of the line?

The moment Su Jian hung up, Yang Huihui fired away. "Tell me, what's going on?"

"He's the blind date that Han Rui mentioned," Su Jian replied. She didn't tell Yang Huihui that they were already married for fear of being scolded.

"You're dating?!" Yang Huihui exclaimed.

"Yes," Su Jian answered, even though she found dating after getting married a little strange.

Yang Huihui clicked her tongue and scrutinized Su Jian. "I know you well. You're quite picky. That Grandma Wang is an oddball. What kind of good men could she introduce to you? I can't believe that you've actually taken an interest in him! What's his name? How old is he? Where does he live? What does he do? What's his family background like? Does he have a house, a car, and savings? Is he living alone or with his parents? Is he the only child, or does he have siblings?"

Su Jian was speechless.

Yang Huihui continued, "Have you looked into his household registration or something?

"I'm just being responsible as a friend. I'm only looking out for you. You're such a beautiful and intelligent lady. If some scumbag tried to play around with you, I'd be furious!"

Su Jian was still having trouble finding her voice.

Yang Huihui persisted, "Alright, hurry up and explain!"

"There's nothing much to explain." Su Jian was only worried about getting criticized.

Yang Huihui raised her shackles. "Wait a minute, you can't be interested in a man who doesn't have a house, a car, and no savings, can you?"

Unbeknownst to Yang Huihui, Su Jian had not hung up the phone. Every word of their conversation was heard by Jin Pingchuan on the other end. He sighed helplessly. He realized that Su Jian wouldn't be able to answer these questions because she didn't ask or care about them during their blind date.

Sometimes, Jin Pingchuan could not help but shudder as a fearful scenario played in his head. If Su Jian had gone on a blind date with some other man, would she have proposed immediately? Had he just been one chance meeting away from losing her? The thought of this possibility made Jin Pingchuan tense up.

While Jin Pingchuan was lost in his thoughts, Yang Huihui continued lecturing Su Jian. "Are you out of your mind? There are so many good men out there. Why did you settle for a pauper? What do women marry for? Don't they marry to have a comfortable life? Haven't you had enough of being poor? Don't you want to experience life again? Look at me! Back then, I followed a poor guy for love. We were entangled for so many years. In the end, we broke up because of financial reasons. Su Jian, don't repeat my mistakes. You must choose a man who can support you. You deserve it. With your qualities, men would be queueing up for you! If you break up with that pauper immediately, I'll introduce you to a good man!"

Jin Pingchuan was speechless.

Jin Pingchuan knew that Yang Huihui was doing this for Su Jian's sake, but she hadn't even met him yet. Wasn't she being a little too harsh?

Su Jian responded, "Qiu Shan's conditions are pretty good. You can consider him."

Jin Pingchuan narrowed his eyes. Qiu Shan?

Yang Huihui paused before spluttering. "I'm talking about you. Why are you dragging me into this? Besides, Qiu Shan isn't interested in me, and I have no interest in him. How about this? I'll set up a meeting with him tomorrow. Why don't you have a meal with him?"
