Chapter 4: Gu Fei!

"Does anyone here object that?" The Patriarch looked at the elders, who in turn, shook their heads or stayed silent.

Gu Feng was one of Gu Clan's younger generation geniuses that were worth nurturing. Moreover, even if he was an idiot with little to no aptitude at cultivation, he would still be able to receive such extravagant treatments since he was the Patriarch's one and only grandson. Plus, the Patriarch and Gu Fengcai seemed to be doting on him.

Last but not least, no one had any guts to go against the Patriarch's decision! Unless they had the support of the Grand Elder, which would impossible to happen since the said Elder was the Patriarch's father, no one would be able to contend against the Patriarch himself!

"There's no need for any of that. As the Gu Clan's future Patriarch, it is natural for the Clan to support the heir to its very best." The Patriarch, Gu Zheng, waved his hand nonchalantly.

As his voice echoed, many of the elders gasped in shock, while the more experienced ones had managed to not show any expression on their faces. However, the sides of their lips twitched.

They all realized that the Patriarch's main agenda was not to announce the upcoming recruitment and the free immediate slots but to openly declare Gu Feng's heir status!

'Hah~, he really did it.' One of the high-ranked elders sighed inwardly as he secretly glanced at the Patriarch.

'To think he would be this direct and bold. As expected of the Patriarch.'

With the current Patriarch's sudden declaration, not only did he consolidate Gu Feng's status but also warn the other Elders who still had some wild ambition.

As one and the only grandson of the Patriarch, most of the Clan members had already expected that Gu Feng would be the one inheriting the position. However, because Gu Feng was also chosen to enter the academy, he would be away for at least, several years.

Furthermore, dying while attending an Academy was a common occurrence, and the Patriarch's sudden announcement deterred the elders or factions with their respective agendas from doing anything recklessly against Gu Feng.

'To put it bluntly, the Patriarch is confident that Gu Feng will be safe in the academy. Meaning, he has ways or connections in the academy! Moreover, if it's the latter, then... he's more terrifying than we thought!' Several elders had the same thoughts in their heads.

Although the Fire Set Academy was not one of the most powerful Academies in the Jia Ma Empire, its strength was not to be underestimated!

Even if the Gu Clan and its neighboring villages and towns combined all of their forces, they would still get wrecked by the Fire Set Academy!

As for its sudden recruitment and the Gu Clan receiving the 3 immediate slots, there only meant one thing...

The elders shivered for a bit before unconsciously looked down.

Most of them wished that their guess was incorrect, but just by looking at the strange coincidences, all of them froze up.

'If so, the Patriarch had some dogshit luck.'

"Well, now that everything is said and done. We will take our leave." Gu Fengcai stood up and approached the door without even giving a second glance at the elders or the Patriarch.

"Let's go, brat. Let the geezers continue their meeting."

Despite trying his best to keep his smiley face as much as possible, Gu Feng's eyebrows twitched upon hearing Gu Fengcai's words.

"I shall take my leave, elders, and Patriarch." Without having no choice, Gu Feng also stood up and bowed before the elders and the Patriarch before waltzing towards Gu Fengcai.

The elders and the Patriarch just looked on the duo's antics with their scrutinizing gazes.

As the door was closed once again, the silent group of high-ranking elders suddenly buzzed like provoked bees.

"Geezers?! To think his skin was too thick that he could call us geezers without even blushing in shame! Should I say, expected od the infamous 'shameless' Gu Fengcai of the Gu Clan?"

It was an unspoken rule that no one must call any old people with age terms corresponding to their age. After all, it was quite shameful to be called uprightly geezers in front of their faces.

"Cough. Casting that aside, let's proceed to our meeting." The Patriarch coughed to ease the awkward and tense atmosphere.

Hearing his words, all of the elders fell into a silent agreement as they looked at the Patriarch with serious gazes.

"As for the 2 free slots, let's pick..."

"Are you surprised?" While on the way to the training ground, Gu Fengcai suddenly spoke.

"A little bit." Gu Feng's replied with a troubled expression on his face.

"Haha! In our Gu Clan's history, you will be the 2nd Gu Clan member to enter the Fire Set Academy!"

"2nd? Who's the first one, then?"

"It's the Patriarch."

Gu Feng nodded his head with a thoughtful expression on his face.

Technically, by entering an Academy, one would become its student and would have to spend 4 years attending the Academy.

Academy was not like a clan that would restrict one's freedom. Once the student finished the 4-year course, his connections with the said Academy would be severed.

However, during that 4 years of time, most of the students would develop some familial-like feelings for the Academy and its staff. Hence, they would then choose to preside over the Academy and help it to the best of their capabilities.

Naturally, some physiological tricks were performed to thicken that familiar and home feelings.

In addition to keeping their freedom, and being protected by their perspective Academies altogether, many rogue cultivators also chose to join Academies in their own accord.

That's why most of the powerhouses in the Empire were Academies and similar organizations such as Sects.

"However, before you enter the Fire Set Academy, I'll make sure that you will have broken through first!" Gu Fengcai muttered as he lowered his eyelids to look at Gu Feng discreetly.

Now that Gu Feng was about to enter a new, and wider world, Gu Fengcai knew that Gu Clan's support would be insufficient in the long run since the Gu Clan itself was only a low-ranked clan at the backwater of the Jia Ma Empire.

Instead of entirely leaning on the small might of the Gu Clan, it was much better for Gu Feng to lean only on himself and increase his strength!

That being said, Gu Fengcai subconsciously looked at the silvery ring on his finger.

'If he cannot breakthrough using force. Let's try using treasures, then.' Gu Fengcai didn't only have the intention of helping Gu Feng to increase his cultivation, but also strengthen his will and resolution.

Upon their arrival, their sight caught a figure who was welding a sharp sword that glistened under the sunlight.

"Gu Feng, this gal will surely be able to contend against you if you ever slack of-" Turning to look at Gu Feng with a smirk, Gu Fengcai's words abruptly stopped as he saw his grandson's eyes wide opened while his mouth was agape.

'What's with that look? Don't tell me he's in heat.' Gu Feng mistook Gu Feng's shocked expression for a dog's lustful face when its mating season.
