Chapter 22

Mila's POV:

Lately, Emma hasn't been staying with me due to being extremely busy. She hasn't really even been leaving her office. The group threatening the council has started taking drastic measures; They've started truly killing people. No relaying messages, just death everywhere at every portal across the world. There have been members of the council who have disappeared just to turn up dead.

Lina hasn't been available due to a close friend dying at one of the portals overseas. She and her mate traveled there for the funeral. Julian and Chloe have been working with the council as well. So, I've basically been by myself, besides my mom. I haven't seen or ran into that monster at all; I really think Lina scared him away, which I am very thankful for. Yet, I can't shake this feeling that I'm constantly being watched and followed. I haven't told Emma about it yet because one, she's been super busy, and two, I don't want to worry her over something that is just a feeling.

I heard a loud bang and immediately woke up out of a dead sleep. I frantically looked around my room, wondering where that bang came from. Then I saw that my balcony door was wide open. What the hell. I reached over and turned my bedside lamp on. As soon as I did that, I looked down and noticed a note with beautiful penmanship.

"Beautiful Mila,

Watching you sleep is an amazing sight, but you wanna know what would be an even better sight to see? The look on your face when I kill everyone you love right in front of you and then the look on your face as I torture you till you take your last breath.

As horrible as death,

Kalayavana."

I gasped at this and got out of my bed. I ran down the hall to my mom's room to find her sound asleep; then I ran to my auntie's room to find the same thing. I let out a breath of relief. I need to get a hold of Emma now.

"Emma! You need to get here now. Kalayavana broke into my room and left me a note!" I exclaimed in a panic. She assured me she'd be there soon, and she wasn't lying. Within mere minutes Her, Lance, Chloe, and Julian were at my house. I ushered them up to my room to read the note.

Emma and Julian growled out while Lance and Emma had looks of pure concern and terror.

"No one will lay a hand on you, Mila, assure you that," Julian said in an angry voice.

"I don't care about me. I'm worried about all of you, my mom, and my auntie." Emma scoffed and walked towards me, cupping both sides of my face.

"You are my main priority. Don't ever disregard life so easily again. You're very important to all of us." I just nodded my head and looked away from her towards Julian and Chloe.

"What are we going to do then?" I threw my hands up.

"I'm going to set up a couple of guards outside your house," Julian said while looking at Emma. Emma nodded.

"That's a great idea. Thank you, Julian." He just nodded.

"I'll put a protection charm on a necklace for Mila and everyone here in this house," Chloe spoke up next.

"Perfect. Try and get those to everyone by tomorrow, okay?" Chloe nodded. After that, everyone left except Emma. Emma changed into some pajamas and got in bed next to me. She pulled me as close as she could, tightening her arms around as if I would disappear.

"I'm not going anywhere," I whispered out. I felt her tighten her to hold a bit more and bury her face into the top of my head, breathing me in.

"I know because I won't let it happen. You're everything to me, Mila, and I'll always keep you safe." I heard her release a tortured sigh, then kiss my head.

"I know you will, but make sure you don't go anywhere too." She took a deep breath.

"Of course, I will try to always be here with you." I propped myself up and kissed her, pouring everything I could into it, just hoping she could feel how much I loved and cared about her. She matched my kiss with the same intensity. We pulled apart after a while and just leaned our foreheads together. We stayed like that for a while before we pulled apart and melded into one another, drifting off into a cautious sleep.
