Exams

I am thinking of writing some side stories in which Ethan goes to some other worlds to change things and have a little adventures. The side stories will not be related to the original story in any way and will be solely written by me because I want to add more fun to this fic. I have ideas on some ideas I want to write, but some other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. If you guys have any idea, please write it in paragraph comments.

--------

The first week of June is the final exam week at Hogwarts.

The written exams, also known as the magic theory exams, start first. All subjects except the flying class will be completed within two days, followed by three days of practical exams.

To prevent cheating, no one is allowed to take the Buraffio's Brain Elixir during the exams. While it's acceptable for use in assisting learning, it is strictly forbidden for cheating.

As for the more advanced Felix Felicis, which is prohibited in advanced competitions, it is not included in the prohibited items this time. However, no one should drink something as luxurious as Felix Felicis during the final exams.

Additionally, you don't need to bring your own quill and ink, as they will be provided.

The first exam is the theoretical knowledge of spells, supervised by Professor Flitwick himself.

"Mr. Donahue, I think you should change your clothes. What do you think?"

Abbot Donahue, a first-year Gryffindor student, had just entered the classroom with a group of fellow Gryffindors. Before he could sit down, Professor Flitwick called him out.

"Sorry, I'll go right away!"

Abbot Donahue hurriedly ran out of the classroom, his face flushed red.

His wizard robe was covered with notes written with an invisibility potion. He planned to use magic to reveal them during the exam, thinking it was foolproof. But he didn't expect to be caught before the exam even started.

Ethan could only think that Professor Flitwick's temper was too good. If it were Snape, Abbot would likely have lost his qualification to take the exam and cost Gryffindor some house points.

Gryffindor's house points, although slightly recovered after Quirrell returned to teaching, were still at the bottom among the four houses.

With Abbot Donahue as a living example, all the students were trembling with fear, worried they would be caught too.

But after Professor Flitwick turned around, no one escaped.

The special glasses that could reflect answers into the wizard's eyes were brought back by senior students from Hogsmeade.

Compared to Ethan's Buraffio's Brain Elixir, these glasses didn't require studying—just wearing them during the exam was enough. However, they could only fool first-year students.

Since the five students who wore these glasses were caught, it was clear they weren't fooling anyone. This trick was confiscated every year in recent years.

Some more advanced students used Transfiguration to turn small objects into body decorations, but even those didn't escape Professor Flitwick's notice.

As a senior professor who had taught at Hogwarts for more than 20 years, Professor Flitwick had seen all kinds of tricks. These first-year wizards were still too childish compared to their seniors.

They used methods that could be seen through at a glance.

Senior wizards used all kinds of potions, alchemical props, and strange ways to convey answers, such as codes and gestures.

There was even someone who used Polyjuice Potion to take the exam for someone else. If the impersonation hadn't been imperfect, Professor Flitwick might not have noticed.

After supervising the next few subjects, Professor Flitwick noticed everyone was much more honest, especially in Potions, where no one dared to cheat.

The next day, Ethan looked over the History of Magic exam and found that more than half of the young wizards were cheating, using simple and crude methods.

Defense Against the Dark Arts wasn't much better, as Quirrell didn't seem to care at all.

Ethan had little interest in Astronomy, so he didn't study it well, instead referring to Cassandra's answers.

Two days passed in a flash. Four subjects were taken on the first day, and three subjects on the second day.

Next was the more difficult practical part. If you didn't know the written test, you could guess the multiple-choice questions, and if you got close on the essay questions, the professor might give you some points.

But if you didn't know the practical, you were out of luck.

During the Transfiguration test, when Ethan and the others entered the classroom, there was a Golden Snitch on the podium.

The test required turning a teacup into a Golden Snitch, with the score based on the degree of completion.

Compared to transforming a match into a silver needle at the beginning of the school year, this was much more difficult. The Golden Snitch, with its round body and wings covered in fine lines, was not easy to replicate perfectly.

Ethan thought that Professor McGonagall might be hinting at Gryffindor, as she was a Quidditch fanatic, but Gryffindor wasn't doing well this year.

After losing to Slytherin and Hufflepuff, they only narrowly won against the Ravenclaw women's team (which was mostly girls).

The younger wizards would be able to join the Quidditch team next year, bringing fresh blood. One by one, they all paid attention to Professor McGonagall. Gryffindor had nothing to lose.

Everything was normal before. Even if something strange happened, it was a change.

However, when Seamus came onto the court, everything changed, and Professor McGonagall was on high alert.

Bang!

As expected, an explosion occurred, and golden fragments scattered all over the classroom.

At least the color changed, showing that Seamus had some talent for Transfiguration, but his talent for causing explosions overshadowed his other abilities.

When it was Ethan's turn, there was no problem at all, and he easily got an O (Outstanding).

In the Potions exam, they needed to brew a Shrinking Potion, which was quite difficult.

In the past, they worked in pairs, but during the exam, each student worked alone.

Daisy roots (chopped), shrunken figs (peeled), caterpillars (cut into thin slices), a drop of rat bile, and a little leech juice.

Although they had brewed this potion just a few weeks ago, the exam site was still chaotic, with all kinds of questions being asked.

After all, you had to kill rats to get rat bile, squeeze leech juice yourself, and cut caterpillars on your own. For those clumsy little wizards, this was a nightmare.

But this was no problem for Ethan and his roommates, who were the first to finish.

Although Snape didn't grade the results in class, it was likely that they did well.

When it came to the exam for the Charms class, Professor Flitwick took everyone to a classroom with a small arena.

As a former dueling champion, Professor Flitwick's exams were quite intense, as he had everyone duel.

Actual combat brings true knowledge, and he didn't want his students to be useless in a critical moment. That was unacceptable.

Harry was the first to go on stage, and his opponent was Draco Malfoy. The two were evenly matched, but Harry ultimately won with his disarming spell.

Next was Ronald vs. Goyle. The two were a bit comical—they actually threw away their wands and started brawling.

Professor Flitwick's face turned green. As the Charms professor, seeing these two students resort to fistfights during his Charms exam was an insult. It suggested that spells weren't as useful as fists.

Indirectly, it implied that Professor Flitwick's teaching wasn't up to par.

Professor Flitwick immediately waved his wand to separate the two and dismissed them without further comment.

The results for those two could be easily imagined.

After two more duels, it was Ethan's favorite part: watching girls duel.

It was a pity that there was no hair-pulling, slapping, or clothes-tearing, which lowered the entertainment value considerably.

"Hermione Granger vs. Cassandra Vole!"

Professor Flitwick soon called out the names of Hermione and Cassandra.

It was Gryffindor vs. Slytherin again, and these two houses were the most intense in their rivalries.

Professor Flitwick also grouped students based on their daily performance, trying to pair those with similar skill levels to make the duels more competitive.

"Expelliarmus!"

"Expelliarmus!"

"Impedimenta!"

"Avis!"

"Petrificus Totalus!"

"Protego!"

The two were much stronger than the previous groups. Most of the time, Cassandra attacked while Hermione dodged or used protective spells.

Professor Flitwick nodded repeatedly. These were the students he had trained. What had those previous duels been, especially the two embarrassing ones?

"Stupefy!"

Seizing an opportunity while Hermione was dodging, Cassandra aimed a beam of white light(Denasaugeo) at an awkward angle and hit Hermione in the head.

To the surprise of all the young wizards, Hermione's front teeth began to grow at an astonishing rate, extending past her lips and toward her chin, until they reached her collar. Then, they finally stopped growing.

With her teeth growing like that, Hermione naturally lost the ability to cast spells. She couldn't cast non-verbally, so she had no choice but to retreat.

But before leaving, Hermione shot a murderous look at Cassandra. Once again, her front teeth were the target. This group couldn't seem to do anything but target her front teeth.

Although Ethan had guessed the outcome, he didn't expect Hermione to end up like that.

He couldn't tell if Cassandra had done it intentionally or accidentally.

Hermione's combat skills were only average.

Although she was a top student and could quickly learn various spells and potions, she was still somewhat lacking in actual combat. She was a classic theoretical student.

Cassandra's combat talent was beyond doubt. This time, she didn't put in much effort, and she wasn't as serious as she had been when fighting Ethan.

Ethan watched a few more duels between the girls. In the end, Gryffindor had three more impressive duels. The two Gryffindor witches had no opponents, as Gryffindor outnumbered Slytherin.

"Neville Longbottom vs. Ethan Adrian!"

Ethan cast a puzzled look at Professor Flitwick.

"Professor, are you serious? You want me to fight Neville?"

Professor Flitwick ignored Ethan's questioning look. For his favorite student, the genius of Ravenclaw, who wouldn't be defeated in seconds here?

As for Neville, Professor Flitwick knew he had worked hard, but because of a childhood Obliviation curse, his brain wasn't very sharp, and he was slower than others in learning magic.

Neville would probably end up with a P (Poor) or D (Dreadful).

So, he couldn't grade the duel normally when it involved Ethan. It was better to give Neville a chance, at least allowing him to say that his opponent was too strong, so he could still get an A (Acceptable).

Seeing Neville's trembling legs, Ethan sighed.

"Expelliarmus!"

A red light accurately hit Neville's wand, causing it to fly out of his hand.

Ethan could only do this. If he had used a full-force Expelliarmus on Neville, it would have been like being hit by a truck.

After all, the disarming spell also has a knockback effect.
