-----------------------------------

"I don't like that noise. Do you want me to do what I did to you the other day?" Max raised his eyes from the book he was reading and glared at Carl. Max did not mind wasting this whole time as long as it was worth it. And in that month, he managed to read all the magic history from the early days until the 19th century, and he figures out the rest from Carl. Not only that, but he also understood many things about magic that he could never dream of finding without reading those books.

Max could finally connect with his magic inside and make it flew in the direction he wanted. The thing that prevented him from doing that was his own beliefs about magic. Max was always a practical guy who used weapons and technology to do his job. He was not even a muggle from this world, and all that made it difficult for him to believe in magic completely.

Although Max saw magic in this world and watched many people doing that, Max still had some doubts in his heart, even if they were getting smaller by the day. Even when he managed to use it, his resolve was not powerful enough to control this magic of his.

After all those years, Max should have managed to use his magic way better than the way he was doing right now. But using his magic drained him because of this matter. In the end, he had to spend all his power and concentration only to guide the magic around. He did not change the nature nor the structure of an object. He did not think of adding properties or anything like that. But after finally breaking down that block that stopped his heart from feeling the true meaning of magic, he could feel the magic in the air, and the two of them were like friends at the moment.

Although using wandless magic was something really hard for him; and near impossible since he did not have enough control or imagination, he was sure that he could do the simple spells that only required moving the magic around without a wand. He had trained for years for such a thing.

But if the spell required the nature of the structure of an object, it was still impossible for him to perform something like that wandlessly.

But after all this time, Max figured some of his strengths, and he was happy to learn that he was much more powerful and talented than the others or would be at least. According to what he read in the books, children his age should experience that feeling corresponded to the awakening of their magic one time only. But he did that twice, and the magic he felt inside his body was much more than the children five or even six years older than him. That alone was an advantage on its own. Not only that, but he read that some rituals could be used to increase children's magic and others that failed but should be used to increase one's power.

But Max was not in a hurry to perform those kinds of rituals. He thought that it was early for such a thing since he did not use even a spell in this life yet. He did not worry at all since he would have all the time in this world to learn whatever he wanted. And everything would get much more natural and easier for him because of everything his uncle, Carl, gave him after coming back from France. The trunk that Carl carried represented his life-saving properties. And Max was happy to use all this wealth with open arms. Carl was his uncle and the only relative to have around, and he would not mind if Max used his wealth however he wanted.

"Ok, I think I get most of it now. What do you think, uncle? Am I doing anything wrong?" Max asked as he tried to use the first simple spell after studying it carefully for days. It was not something dangerous, and it was so simple that nearly all the young wizards could do it, but Max did not take all this time to read it. Max's thoughts were different than the others that learned this spell for the first time. Although Lumos was not that complicated charm, Max decided to take all the time needed to study it carefully. Max thought that if he understood the logic and arithmancy behind those few basic spells and charms, he would not find it difficult to amend them or create more complex ones. He had to strengthen his foundations, and everything would be easy after that.

Max spent the first few days learning how the magic should move from his body towards the tip of his finger or the tip of the wand before adding a property to the wand or his finger to light up. It was easy to do it, but Max decided to use what he learned from the books of arithmancy to see how the magic would move and how it would change the nature of the wand to light up. It took a few days, but that made him understand what it could really do. Not only that, but he managed to write many variations for this spell in the form of numerical equations after seeing its effects. And he planned to try them after using this spell for the first time.

"Just do it. Even a six years old boy could do this simple spell. Why the fuck do you have to take all this time? I wanted to kill myself many times already because of you. Do you think anything I say could hurt you when you chose the simplest spell in the world? Plus, you are careful enough to stop if you felt anything wrong," Carl shouted with a loud voice as he looked at Max with an annoyed expression on his face. He could not believe what Max was doing at this point. Although Carl was careful and calculative before doing anything, it was the first time to see someone take ages and calculate everything before doing something as simple as using Lumos spell. That was why Carl was about to turn mad after all this time. He would never find a way to escape from Max's hands if Max continued to be like that.

"Careful of your wishes. I can always make your simple wish come true," Max said with a mocking smile on his face before turning to the want that he took from Carl. Before using this wand, Max had to read a book about Wandlore to check if he could use this one or something wrong would happen. But Carl's wand was quite special since it was made using a dragon's heartstring. And after searching for the characteristic of this component, Max found out that this wand would obey the stronger, and it changed allegiance to the one that defeated its master. As long as it deemed its master hopeless, it would abandon him. That was why Max decided to use it after finding out that the wandless magic was quite hard.

But being hard did not mean that he would abandon it. Max decided to test the spell and his theories using the want before using wandless magic. He needed to experience the feeling before throwing the wand away. And everything went as he planned. "Lumos!!!" After concentrating his mind on the spell's effects, and his magic on the tip of his wand, he succeeded in using the wand-lighting charm for the first time. And the light that came from the tip of the wand was powerful enough to light up all the hall that was quite dark at this point.

"That went well, I suppose. Ok, the next step," Max said those words before putting the wand down to check if he could do the same without the wand. He had used something like that when he moved the bullet in the air. The only thing different this time was adding new properties to his finger to make it light up. "Lumos!!!"

But this time, Max was not successful in getting what he wanted, and he figured what went wrong immediately since he knew the required feeling and arithmancy for the spell. The magic moved the right way to the tip of his finger, but Max could not hold it right there until he added the lighting property, and that was what caused this spell to fail. The more he discovered about magic and how challenging a problem could be, the more he got distracted about his original goal of killing to enjoy. It seemed that Max started developing another hobby that could make him feel happy inside.

And just like that, Max tried more than ten times before he managed to succeed in using this spell without the wand. And Carl could see clearly the sincere smile on Max's face after finally resulting in pulling something like that.

Carl wanted to say a few words to annoy Max, but he did not dare this time. Carl was afraid that if he annoyed Max this time, Max would turn back to torture him. At least, after Max founded this new toy, Max ignored him for now. Max used pain to limit Carl's concentration so that he could never use magic, and he would increase the pain every time since he did not want Carl's body to adapt to the amount of pain he was exposing it to every day. That was a rare chance for Carl to rest for a day at least.
