New And Improved Dueling Club

I sat in my room grading papers from a week ago, I quizzed the students on their plant and herb knowledge, and some of the root names, not the modern ones. Although it doesn't make much of a difference what you call a plant either by the modern name or ancient name there are still some minute advantages.

Older and more knowledgeable suppliers would have a better impression of you which could lead to profitable business deals. Some incantations do require the root name or the oldest original name.

It seems most of my students have a basic knowledge of the plants and herbs I will be teaching about though there are some who seem to be more knowledgeable.

After finishing the papers I decided to rest my body for a bit, I am in a young body but I have an old soul and mind sometimes I just like to close my eyes and enjoy the silence around me.

Opening my eyes I was greeted by the sun peaking over the spires of the castle. I didn't have any classes to teach today as divination is an elective and not a core class so I decided to spend my afternoon widdling away at a bone I didn't have much time to do this over the summer.

As I carved some symbols in what would be the arm piece I began to paint the symbols in a blood and corpse flower juice mixture.

As I finished the arm segment I put away my materials and decided to leave my room. Walking through the castle I realized I was so consumed in my artwork that I didn't notice time pass by. Checking the time I saw it was close to when the dueling club would have its first meeting this year.

Walking through the corridors I entered the great hall which had now been redecorated. The starry sky was still in place but now the room was wider and had small dueling platforms around the bigger main one.

Seeing this improvement brought a smile to my face, Albus has kicked it up a notch say what you want about the man but I don't think he likes losing. This must be in preparation for when we do the cross-school events.

I spotted the man himself standing off to the side talking with Minerva. Seeing them engrossed in their conversation I decided to greet them.

"Morpheus, come to watch?" Abara's excited voice reached my ears

Turning around I smiled, "My friend, how could I miss this? Are you excited for this new year?" I asked while motioning to the new layout

Abara's smile reached ear to ear, "Yes, ever since I heard about the school competitions I've been waiting for the first meeting," I could almost feel his passion for the club

I laughed, "I look forward to seeing Hogwarts win against our competitors,"

Abara chuckled, "I hope we can win most of the schools have had a dueling club for years where we just started. But, I have to say we have some real talents, this club really did wonders for me thank you for suggesting it," he said with genuine warmth I can tell this club means a lot to him

"Oh yeah?" I said telling him to continue

"The students actually pay attention to my astronomy lectures now, it's been so long since I've seen students actually interested in what I teach," He replied while clasping me on the shoulder

"Thank you, my friend," he said once more before walking off

I smiled softly at his back, I didn't think I would like any of my co-workers when I came here but I can say Abara has been a pleasure to talk with.

I hope he can continue to teach this club.

I finally reached Albus and Minerva when the club was just stating, "Albus, Minerva it's nice to see you here," I said joining them in the back

Minerva nodded, "Morpheus, come to watch or duel? I missed your last one," her face as stern as ever

I laughed putting my hands up, "No no, dueling isn't for me I just participated for fun I would love to see you duel though," I replied jokingly

Minerva cracked a brief smile, "Dueling isn't for you? Beating Filius is quite the achievement and perhaps I will step onto the platform in the future,"

"Ahh, it was all luck really," I replied while looking over to Albus, "Albus, what brings you over here?"

Albus smiled faintly, "I put so much effort into having the board agree to this I think it's best to see the fruits of my labor,"

Before I could reply Abara began talking about something everyone was waiting for.

"As you all know this year we will be participating in an exchange between different schools, I for one am excited for you all to see different types of approaches to dueling and magic. You might be wondering how you can participate in one of these duels, the answer is simple in one month we will be hosting tryouts anyone can apply and we are looking for five of the best duelists from each year starting at the third year. I wish you all the best of luck now let's continue our session if you have any questions, please ask your head of house," He said with a grand smile the students seemed to vibrate in their places with excitement

Watching the club commence I saw many things I liked, the professors would demonstrate moves or spells that can be used in certain ways and then walk around and help the students practice. The instructors used the mini dueling platforms to have small duels where the students would duel the teachers

Filius was also present and he seemed to be helping the students with footwork and positioning.

As time passed it seemed the club was going to end when Abara took the stage again, "To end the class we were wondering if any students would like to come up here and have a proper duel?"

Many hands shot up as the students shouted for Abara to pick them up. Albus chuckled softly next to me and I smiled wryly these students sure are enthusiastic.

"Mr. Potter and Ms. Evans," Abara said pointing at two students

I could visibly see James become nervous it was as if a cold bucket was poured over his head.

Evans that must be the girl Albus was talking about who was talented in charm I think she's in my class right now.

This will be interesting.

Both of the students joined the stage. I could see a mixture of fear and excitement on their faces. Fear of messing up was probably eating at them right now.

"Who do you think will win?" Albus asked me

"Ms. Evans will win," I replied as they readied their wands

Minerva frowned slightly, "You seem confident, although Ms. Evans is talented in charms Mr. Potter is equally as talented in Transfiguration," she said

I smiled, "Well, it seems like we are in for a treat with this duel then who will win the Transfiguration talent or the charms talent?"

Like a flash, they began.
