[1989 Pt.1]

[June, 1989.]

It had been roughly a year since Nathan had begun his training in wanded magic. His study of charms was going fast with his mother instructing him on it. He was already on third-year material now. His study in transfiguration, however, was a bit slower. Not due to a lack of talent in the branch of magic but due to the way Nathan was approaching it.

His father, Alexander, had started his education in the same way Minerva McGonagall did for students at Hogwarts. He taught Nathan the intermediate spell to turn a matchstick into a needle first, following that he then taught him other intermediate spells.

Nathan while thankful, had also requested his father to start teaching him fashioning. His father had agreed, though also made it clear that Nathan was to never use fashioning, if not under the supervision of an adult.

So with that, Nathan had learned the spell, Mutaro Figura- The easiest spell in the Fashioning Branch of Transfiguration. It allowed the caster to manipulate the shape of an object freely. The more intricate the shape was, the more magic it would consume. Nathan had practised the spell diligently, but his father had made it clear that it would take at least a few years for him to master fashioning as a whole.

Nathan could proudly say that, as a ten-year-old, he could give any third-year at Hogwarts a run for their money in both Transfiguration and Charms. Even as he did other things that were not taught at Hogwarts. specifically- Fashioning, Sensing Spells, Enchanting, etc.

He had grown as a person as he had been exposed to Magic. Nathan as Jason had been an ordinary man, and as any other ordinary man, he longed for greatness. It was the reason that his position as just a computer engineer had not been enough, it was also why he had not been satisfied with being just a public administrator even when many people would kill to be in his position, he had wanted to become more- he wanted to go down in history so he had gone into politics and again he had succeeded.

But all that changed, a single knife is all it took to end his story in his last life. All that he had done was ruined by a petty loser that couldn't take a defeat in good spirit.

His new life would not be the same, because this time, even if he was going to die, his death itself would become the tale of legends, Nathan Grey would go down swinging in this life. Magic gave him the opportunity to be great in a way that was beyond his grasp in his previous life. It gave him power beyond money or influence. It gave him the strength to rebel against nature itself and Nathan welcomed the gift.

This was also the reason that he was eager to get to Hogwarts as fast as possible. Even if staying with his parents was a nice experience, Nathan was fairly limited in the branches of magic he could look into.

His family only used magic responsible for making figurines and statues while Nathan wanted to practise more destructive magic. He hadn't even been able to experiment with the spell he had crafted.

He wanted to practise the dark arts and ancient spells as well. Nathan had even shortlisted the words of power, he would make use of to cast the spells he planned.

So when an owl arrived carrying the famous Hogwarts letter on the morning of his birthday, Nathan was reasonably excited.

'Six Years,' That is how much time Nathan had before Lord Voldemort would be reborn into a body.

Six years was a lot of time for Nathan to grow- in magic, finances and influence. After all, restructuring a society needed more than just magical talent, it also needed a change in mindset for wizards.

'Hatred and fear are the easiest ways to guarantee a change of mindset for the British.'

Nathan was not naive. The current system was a bomb waiting to go off. The wizarding government was a government in its direst state. It suppressed all but the largest economic majority- the older purebloods.

The thing that truly made him shudder, however, was not the discrimination itself, it was the way it was implemented as subtly as a sledgehammer.

The hatred against other species and muggles was blatant to see even in books of magical history and law. The British Ministry was a failed government that was held aloft only thanks to the Wizengamot, which was another can of worms that Nathan wanted to avoid.

Lord Voldemort would be the first domino out of many that would have to fall before this nation changed.

Nathan got off the bed. It was his birthday today, he had better things to do than wallow on Magical Britain's miserable straights.

************ ************

Nathan was currently sitting in his family's shop, Beholder's eyes in, Diagon Alley. His whole family was currently sitting in the shop with him.

Nathan was thankful for being born on the fourteenth of June. It was a good day because he could celebrate his birthday with both his parents and friends even while attending school.

Nathan honestly could never wrap his head around the idea of boarding schools in a world of instantaneous travel. Boarding schools were a necessary evil in a period of time where travel would take days if not weeks, but they also tended to weaken the bond between children and parents if the child was too young. An eleven-year-old was definitely not prepared for living with a bunch of strangers and most of the children probably never voiced a complaint due to peer pressure.

"So let's get you your school supplies and presents, shall we?"-- His grandfather said, even as the display pieces of the shop slowly started getting placed in the box as his father waved his wand preparing to close the shops.

It had taken them some time but they had finished shopping for the most essential supplies except for an owl and his clothes.

Nathan walked into Madame Malkin's Robes for All Occasions with his family carrying the supplies for Hogwarts.

As soon as they entered, Malkins asked from where she was sitting behind the reception counter, "Hogwarts, dear?"

Nathan nodded before saying, "It is my first year, madame."

She smiled before looking at his father and asking, "How many sets should I get?"

"Three should suffice, he is a growing boy," his grandmother chimed in.

She nodded before asking, "Any charms?"

His grandmother replied, "Self-ironing only, Madame."

"Step a bit forward, my boy." Nathan followed the command and immediately, a measuring tape started taking measurements of his body.

He waited patiently as an enchanted quill noted down his measurements on a piece of parchment.

Once it was done, Madame Malkins waved her wand and summoned a robe.

Nathan immediately grabbed it from the air so that he could dress himself. He did not want to get dressed up by a middle-aged woman, it was embarrassing enough that his mother had done it when he was younger.

Madame Malkins looked amused at his actions but did not stop him from dressing himself.

'It fits perfectly,' Nathan decided after checking himself out in a mirror the woman had produced for the job.

He took it off and said, "Other than this, I need a pair of dragon hide gloves and the ceremonial hat please."

She nodded before asking, "Any informal wear?"

Nathan shook his head hard. He wasn't wearing robes as informal wear. He would prefer non-magical clothing like his father.

Robes looked cool and were very wizardly but Nathan preferred a suit more. It wasn't that he believed suits were superior but his habit of wearing them for most of his adult life had made him accustomed to them. Nathan couldn't simply take himself seriously if he was wearing a robe.

'Maybe a wizarding twist to a suit will be a good idea.'

Nathan accepted the package from Madame Malkins handed to him even as his father handed her the money.

The family left the shop before finally moving to the Magical Menagerie.

He was excited because it would be the day he would get his own familiar. Even though there was no special magical bond between a master and its familiar, it still felt like a special thing to have. And with how the other characters and their familiars behaved, it seemed to be a good idea for Nathan to get familiar for himself.
