Chapter 95 - The Good side of House Slytherin

Luna smiled back at them, feeling happy that she had made some new friends. She wondered what they liked to do and what their hobbies were. She decided to ask them, hoping to learn more about them.

"So, what do you all like to do for fun?" she asked innocently. "Do you have any special interests or talents?"

The boys looked at each other, not sure how to answer. They had never met anyone like Luna before, who seemed genuinely curious and open-minded about everything.

"Well, I like to play Quidditch, potions, and training I guess," Thomas said. "I'm a Chaser for the Ravenclaw team, one of the students that could follow our dark and edgy professor and probably the best fighter or duelist in our year, maybe even in the year above."

"Wow, that's amazing!" Luna exclaimed. "I've always wanted to try Quidditch, but I don't have a broomstick. My papa says they're too expensive and dangerous." She stops for a second humming before smiling at Thomas. "I tried to brew a potion once and my papa's frog turned blue."

Thomas felt a pang of sympathy for Luna, who seemed to have a rather poor and lonely life. He wondered if he could lend her his broomstick sometime and teach her how to fly, but seeing how she didn't seem all that excited about it, maybe this won't be a good idea. As for potions, well if she ends up in their house, something that all four boys are more than sure will happen, then he and Adam will take turns teaching her how to properly brew a potion.

"I like to read and write," Michael said. "I want to be an author someday and write stories about magic and adventure. But I also want to explore the world and see all of the magical creatures one could find or even find new species never seen before."

"That sounds wonderful!" Luna said. "I love reading too, especially The Quibbler. It's my papa's magazine, you know. He writes about all kinds of fascinating things, like Nargles and Crumple-Horned Snorkacks."

The boys nodded politely, not wanting to offend Luna, but they had never heard of such creatures before. They wondered if they were real or just made up by Luna's father. However, they had to admit that it did sound quite fascinating. Maybe they will try to read the newspaper someday.

"I like to prank our lovely Slytherins as well as some of the teachers," James said with a smile.

"Oh… that's not so nice!" Luna said. "I'm not very good at this subject, but I'm pretty sure that's a bad thing."

James felt a pang of sadness when he heard Luna's words, almost as if an arrow had pierced his heart. He had always prided himself on being a prankster, a rebel, a troublemaker. He enjoyed making fun of the Slytherins and the teachers, especially Snape and Filch. He thought it was harmless fun, a way to spice up the boring school life.

'Alas, maybe I should keep my pranks to a minimum?' Though the red-haired boy.

A few seconds later Michael decided to tell her something about him too. "Like Tommy here, I like or at least try to get better at brewing potions, but I also like to draw and paint," Adam said. "I want to be an artist someday and create beautiful works of art."

"That's lovely!" Luna said with a dreamy smile. "I like art too, but I'm not very good at it. I mostly draw things that I see in my dreams or imagine in my head."

The boys and Luna continued to chat happily, finding out more about each other and their lives. As they talked with each other to pass the time, they didn't notice the commotion outside in the hallway until it was too loud to ignore.

At first, there was only shouting and arguing, followed by a loud thud and a crash.

Being the closest to the door, James got up and opened the door, curious to see what was happening. As soon as the door was open, the first thing they saw was Draco Malfoy arguing with a blonde girl as she defended her friend, telling him that it was none of his business who her friends were.

Draco sneered at the girl, who looked familiar to James. He realized that she was Daphne Greengrass, a second-year Slytherin who compared to her housemates wasn't part of the pureblood supremacy bullshit.

"Of course, it's my business, Greengrass," Draco spat. "You're a disgrace to your family and your house. How dare you associate with that filthy half-blood pet of yours?"

The other girl's face darkened as she looked down to the point of tears, and Daphne snapped at Draco, "Dare to say that again, Malfoy, and I will hex you to kingdom come! Tracey is my best friend, and you would treat her properly. If you ever dare to speak to her like this again, I will make sure that not even you Daddy dearest will take you back."

When she finished her sentence, the blonde girl took out her wand ready to teach Draco a lesson.

The boy in question on the other hand just scoffed, not afraid of her threat. He had his own wand out, ready to duel her. He looked at Tracey, who was a second-year Slytherin like him and Daphne, but unlike them, she was a half-blood. She had black hair and brown eyes and wore a timid expression on her face.

"You're pathetic, Greengrass," Draco said. "You're wasting your time and your blood on this worthless half-blood. You should be ashamed of yourself, for betraying your own kind. You're no better than a mudblood lover."

He spat the last word with disgust, making Tracey flinch and Daphne fume.

"Shut up, Malfoy," Daphne said. "You don't know anything about me or Tracey. You're just a spoiled brat who thinks he's better than everyone else because of his pure-blood status. You're nothing but a coward and a bully."

She glared at him, daring him to make a move. Draco on the other hand smirked, enjoying the challenge.

Thomas and James had enough of Draco's charade and decided to interfere. They couldn't stand by and watch as he insulted and threatened someone just because she wasn't a bloody supremacist. At the same time, Thomas erased all of the pity and worries he had about Draco's life, seeing that this was the real him, a snob that only knew how to bully weaker people or girls.

They stepped out of their compartment, joining Daphne in front of Draco. They raised their wands, ready to defend the two girls.

"Leave them alone, Draco," Thomas said. "You have no right to judge them or anyone else based on their blood status. You're the one who should be ashamed of yourself, for being such a snob and a jerk."

"Yeah, what he said," James added crackling his knuckles.

Draco sneered at them, but was quite fearful of the two mad boys, more so when he saw Thomas ready to fight. His father told him to never antagonize this particular after he and Thomas met properly two days ago, but even so, Draco was conflicted between befriending the boy and straight hating him. Though no matter how much he wanted to follow his mother's advice to befriend the blonde boy who was kind and strong, his father's advice to never meddle with mudblods was stronger than Narcissa's advice. Shaking those thoughts, he looked at his two goons, Crabbe and Goyle, who were standing behind him. They were both big and dumb but they were more loyal than a house-elf.

"Ha! Look who's talking," Draco said with a less confident look on his face. "The fake wizard and the forgotten Weasley."

But that didn't stop him from raising his wand, ready to hex Thomas and James.

However, before he could do or say anything, James charged at him, hitting him in the stomach with his fist. Draco gasped, dropping his wand and falling back into the glass window of the train. The window shattered, sending shards of glass flying everywhere.

Thomas took advantage of the distraction and shot two modified devil spells at Crabbe and Goyle. The spells hit them in the chest, causing them to scream in pain. Their skin turned blue and frosty, and icicles formed on their hair and clothes and soon the two dumb followers were iced on the walls unable to speak or move.

Once they were out of the picture, Thomas turned his head towards Draco, who was now in a fetal position covering his head in fear that James would beat him senseless. Thankfully James turned to look at Thomas, and he just shook his head telling him that it was not worth the trouble.

Reluctantly, James put his wand back before joining Thomas as the two of them made their way toward the two girls. A second later, the two boys stopped in front of Tracey, who was being hugged by Daphne to calm her down. The black-haired girl looked shaken and scared by Draco's attack, but also relieved and grateful that Thomas and James had intervened.

The two boys felt sorry for the girls, who had done nothing wrong but stand up for themselves and their friendship. They also felt impressed by Daphne's courage and loyalty, and curious about Tracey, who clearly didn't belong in the Slytherin house.

Therefore, as any other boy would do, they decided to apologize for what happened and invite them to their compartment if they didn't feel safe staying in theirs. Even though it would be a little bit cramped with seven people inside, they thought it would be better than leaving them alone in a compartment where anyone like Draco and his goons could come and make a scene.

"Hey, are you two alright?" Thomas asked, with a gentle smile. "We're really sorry about what happened. That was uncalled for. Draco is a jerk, and he doesn't know what he's talking about."

"Yeah, he's an idiot," James agreed, with a friendly grin. "You don't have to listen to him or his cronies. You're both awesome."

Daphne smiled, feeling grateful for their kindness. She was glad that they had stood up for her and Tracey, and that they didn't judge them based on their house or blood status.

"Thank you," she said. "That means a lot to us. You're both very brave and kind for standing up to Malfoy, considering who his father is."

Thomas just shook his head as if he was telling her not to mention Lucius since frankly, he could touch them at school.

Tracey nodded, feeling a mix of emotions. She was thankful for their help and support, but she was also fearful of Draco's revenge on them. She knew that he wouldn't let this go and that he would make their lives miserable. She was also shy and nervous, not used to talking to boys or making new friends.

"Thank you," she echoed, in a soft and barely audible voice.

After the two girls said their thanks, Daphne agreed with the boys and with their help moved their trunks to their compartment. She felt safer and more comfortable with them than with Draco and his goons. Once inside she and Tracey decided to introduce themselves to the four boys and one girl.

"Hi, I'm Daphne Greengrass," she said. "I'm a second-year Slytherin, but don't hold that against me. I'm not like most of them. I don't care about blood purity or power. I just want to learn magic and have fun."

"Hi, I'm Tracey Davis," Tracey said, in a quiet voice. "I'm also a second-year Slytherin and a half-blood. I don't fit in with my housemates, and they don't like me. I'm glad that Daphne is my friend. She's the only one who understands me."
