London was quite the bleak city as it often rained, and so children generally all went out on sunny days.
Ethan was no such child though. Instead, on a particularly sunny day near the end of summer 1986, Ethan remained in his room, sitting cross legged on his mat.
It had been around two years since the first visit of Newt Scamander to their house, and Ethan was already six years old.
In her favourite and claimed seat, that is on top of Ethan's head, sat Miyuki, who had visibly grown in size in the past two years.
Ethan himself had grown up, but so had Miyuki, who barely fitted on top of his head when she could easily do so in the past.
The most remarkable change about her though was her tail, or tails, as another had grown. Two tails were now swaying back and forth behind her, sometimes tickling Ethan's ears as she meditated alongside Ethan.
The growth of her new tail hadn't been a slow process either, a couple months ago she had woken up with her second tail, and no one had seen how it appeared.
The appearance of a new tail was quite the big change for a Kitsune, and that was especially so for a young Kitsune as their magic would manifest.
Miyuki was now able to create small illusions around herself, such as her favourite one to this day, manifesting small butterflies around her. They weren't really useful now, but with time her illusions could become fearsome.
Her body had also become stronger, she could give any domestic cat a run for their money in both speed and agility, while her claws could be used as knives.
As for Ethan himself, he also had grown in both body and magic. He didn't grow any tail, but he did grow about ten centimetres in those two years. His hair was kept short while his body was a little more developed all around.
Because of all his meditation, Ethan feared his body would grow weak, so he decided to exercise his body in his free time, which he usually did with his father. They would run in Greenwich Park several times every week. It was nothing too intensive, but enough to get into shape.
However, most of his time was still spent on his magic.
Ethan would meditate a first time everyday when he woke up, a second time at lunch and finally a last time before sleeping.
He had stopped meditating as much as possible as he realized it didn't really improve anymore after 15 minutes, so he stuck with sessions of 15 minutes. Thanks to this, Ethan was now able to feel around 70% of the magic in his body at all times, and control with great mastery about 40% of it.
Considering how much his magical reserves had grown in the past two years, this allowed Ethan to use actual useful magic.
It was still Wandless Magic, and Ethan also decided not to use any incantations. It would make spells much easier to cast, but Ethan decided against using them because they were highly restrictive.
Incantations were magical words that would automatically shape the magic within someone to cast a certain spell, and while it made casting said spell easier, it also restricted the wizard or witch's creativity.
No variation could be added to such a spell, and so Ethan decided not to use them as he instead relied on nothing more than his will. This made spell casting much more taxing, but Ethan was free to change his magic mid casting thanks to this.
Moreover, Ethan wasn't too pressed for power at the moment, what mattered the most to him at the moment was to learn more about manipulating his magic, and for that avoiding incantations was better.
For now, Ethan stuck to relatively simple spells, mainly revolving around telekinesis. This was indeed one of the simplest forms of magic, and so it could easily be achieved with Wandless Magic.
Ethan had tried to cast a Lumos Charm, but although he had enough magic to cast the spell, he had failed many times because although he could control his magic, that was only with simpler commands.
As Ethan's magic was always volatile and erratically moving around his body, simply maintaining it in place was complicated. For now, Ethan could maintain around 40% of his magic in place to cast simpler magic like telekinesis, but harder spells would ask for an even better malleability of his magic, and that he was still incapable of.
However, Ethan was only six, and he still had five years before entering school, which was more than enough time.
Speaking of schools, Ethan obviously intended to join Hogwarts, not only did he live in England, but even if he didn't, that was the school where everything would happen, of course he had to head there.
But it seemed the choice wasn't as obvious to everyone as it had been to him.
Going back a couple of years, when Newt had joined, he had warned him, "When you join school in the future, you should warn them in advance about Miyuki, as you can't simply show up with such a dangerous animal at school. Believe me, I tried."
Back then, remembering what he saw in the movies from his past life, Ethan had smiled, but then Newt asked, "By the way, have you decided which school you want to go to? Ilvermorny? Durmstrang? Or Hogwarts?"
Ethan wasn't surprised by Hogwarts and Ilvermorny, he lived in England, so Hogwarts was his given choice, and his father, Henry, was American and had studied at Ilvermorny, so the question was legitimate.
However, what he couldn't understand, was why exactly would Newt ask about Durmstrang.
When he asked him, Newt looked surprised as he replied, "Well, because your…"
However, before he could finish, his mother coughed and stopped him, "He will go to Hogwarts."
Since then, Ethan had asked many times his parents what Newt meant by Durmstrang, but neither was willing to reveal what he was talking about.
Still, Ethan couldn't help but link what he already knew. His mother refused to talk about her childhood, and Newt had talked about someone he looked like. This was probably someone of his family, possibly from his mother's family.
Then, adding in his knowledge from his past life, Ethan quickly ended with two particular character that could make Newt lose his composition from their appearance, since he himself had light blond hair and blue eyes.
One was Queenie Goldstein, Newt's sister-in-law, whose fate was still unknown in Ethan's past life as he left before the Fantastic Beasts movies were finished.
The other, was Gellert Grindelwald, most dangerous Dark Lord before Voldemort, and according to some, even to this day.
And considering how Helene refused to tell about her past, Ethan was almost sure it was the second one, meaning he might be the descendant of Grindelwald.
Of course, he couldn't be sure, but it would explain why Newt had been so stunned at his appearance, the striking resemblance would make more sense if he was Grindelwald's descendant, as they were both men.
It would also explain why his parents had almost no friends, and almost always kept to themselves. From what he knew, before his birth they didn't even live in one place, they constantly moved all around the world.
Ethan thought when he was young that this was because they were adventurers at heart, but maybe there was more to it.
There was also his father. Henry had always refused to talk about his past too, all Ethan knew was that there were some disagreements with his family, but his father refused to tell him more.
That frustrated Ethan, but he didn't give up. One day, he would learn what they are hiding from him, and confirm his identity. Until then, he was going to continue working on his magic, and for that, his father came to him one day.
