Nobody knew what had happened - neither the mundane mortals, not the magical ones. Even the Elves, Fairies, Centaurs, Merpeople, Vampires, Werewolves, Unicorns, Dragons, Goblins, Vellas, Ghosts and other creatures were perplexed by the intrinsic change in the world around them.
The world felt a brighter and duller place all at the same time.
Even though they couldn't pinpoint what had changed, they could feel it deep in their bones that something definitely had...no matter if they couldn't name it.
The mundane doctors reported a remarkable turn in the ailments and health of patients under their care all over the world. Patients who were just a hair's breadth away from Death miraculously recovered.
Epidemics, Pandemics and other such outbreaks of contagious diseases went on an all-time low.
The Elves had a curious case where their notorious difficulty in getting pregnant decreased and giving birth to their progeny seemed to be easier in the past few days. All around the world, the various settlements of Elves seemed to rejoice over the phenomenon and laughter akin to the thinking of bells could be heard throughout all the hours of the day and night.
The Fey people felt that their wings had become even more resplendent and their connection with nature seemed to increase all of a sudden. Hence, many lost travellers found that they would encounter otherworldly beings who would help them to find their way back to the nearest civilisations.
Many people found their houses spick and span when they woke up in the morning and many babies born around the world in the past few days had the good fortune to be blessed by the Fey people.
The Centaurs felt that the stars had changed their positions all of a sudden and thru couldn't read yeh Divination signs. Though they felt that Healing Magic came easier to them, they felt worried about the sudden change in the alignment of stars and planets and worried if this heralded as the songs of something worse to befall the mortals.
The Merpeople were affected even more drastically due to their dual nature which embodied the vitality of their environment - the sea.
Just like the waters of an ocean can be both gentle and destructive, so were the Merpeople.
The could cause havoc, mischief and destruction on the expanse of human lives when angered and they could be the most gentle and benign creatures when they helped and saved the lives of shipwrecked sailors.
Hence, many magicals who were in the business of capturing mermaids to sell them in the black market found themselves meeting almost fatal accidents. A large number of them were even dragged by the Merpeople into the deep sea to be never heard from ever again.
Meanwhile, many kind-hearted sailors found treasures - pearls and trinkets in the corners of their ships. Many mundane believed it to be the work of the Sea Goddess who blessed them for living most of their lives on the sea rather than on the land and thanked the dirty profusely.
The Vampires found that their bloodlust had increased tremendously and their charm and charisma also seemed to have increased which made it easier for them to prey upon unsuspecting mortals.
However, they also noticed that there were increased reports of infighting in many covens and the leaders of many covers seemed to have become even more paranoid and distrustful of their allies.
Similarly, for the Werewolves, they felt that the ebb and flow of the Moon seemed to have a greater impact on them than usual. During nights, they can feel all their own up negative emotions - anger, despair, rage to the forefront and they have a hard time controlling it.
The werewolf leader of a pack of werewolves residing in Albania realises a fact during these days.
He realises why the divine embodiment of the Moon is called Luna. Its because the moon has the power to bring forth the lunacy hiding in the darkest places of a human heart - a place which everybody shies away from instinctively.
The Unicorns that were practically thought of as unconquerable without deft deceit by mortals and immortals alike, felt lacklustre. Their gleaming coats of snow-white fur seemed to lose some of its inherent shine.
Unicorns which were seen as the physical embodiment of everything good and pure in the world could never be outrun and captured by the hunters, until and unless they employed a hapless virgin to stand under a tree - as the manifestation of someone in need of rescuing.
Employing such that tactics, the hunters would then capture the unbeatable beast when it would get close to the maiden and lay down its head in the maiden's lap - as if sacrificing itself to save an innocent.
In most magical societies around the world, the hunters we're seen as the most vicious and unforgivable sinners.
Since Death had called back all its creations, the Unicorns felt as if their connection to Lady Magic and the world around them had started flickering somewhat. In turn, this led to many Unicorns being injured and having their horns, blood and tears collected by the hunters.
The Dragons felt their killing intent rise and their Chaos magic seemed to be on tenterhooks. The hatchlings seemed to be more prone to violence and their grasp on their fire was shaky at best.
Similarly, the Goblins and the Vellas felt their inherent magic rush forth and some of the temperamental Vellas couldn't even control their human forms and would turn into harpies every few hours. Though this seemed to increased their overall control on their magical being heritage, it also had the side-effect of having them prone to irrational fits of anger.
Many magical beings complained that whenever these days whenever they went to any branch of Gringotts, the Goblins seemed to be worse than usual in their dealings and were more inclined to settle their disputes by sparring than by exchanging gold and silver.
The worst magical beings affected by the phenomenon were the ghosts and other such apparitions. Their already delicate link to the mortal plane was thinned even more. Some of the new ghosts couldn't hold on much longer and finally left this plane of existence.
Hence, many mundane buildings which were thought to be haunted by evil spirits were cleansed of the malicious aura surrounding them.
However, the worst beings to be affected by Death's decision were the wizards and witches.
Heya Folks
This chapter is all about magical creatures who would fight in the upcoming war.
My thought process was that if Death gave these creatures long lifespans, it must have taken something of equal value away from them. Hence, I tried to pen down my thoughts in this chapter (with loads of crawling through mythology books)
Sending loads of hugs your way.
