An Invitation!

{Ollivanders, Diagon Alley}

{12:43 P.M, 1 August 1991}

'Huh!' Alex exclaimed as he was bombarded with the notifications. He ignored the cheeky intro to the notification and focused on the wand itself.

'The compatibility factor is too low right?' Alex thought as he brought the wand closer and looked at it, there was a small frown on his face as he could feel his mana slowly pull towards his hands.

He realized that the wand was not just a simple channeling tool, without it he couldn't even feel his mana. He got lost in the sensation for a few seconds...

"Mr. Potter?" Garrick's voice dragged him out of his daze.

"Uh Yeah." Alex hurriedly noticed and then he frowned as he thought about how to explain his predicament. Any wand when placed in his hands would likely show some form of compatibility.

'How should I explain this to Ollivander, he believed in the wand selecting the Wizard and not the other way around.' Alex thought, though his worries were quickly dismissed as Garrick turned around and pulled a wand from the closest box he could reach.

He pulled out a wand and presented it to Alex, "9 1/2 inches, made from Alder." Garrick spoke, but Alex noticed that the core material wasn't mentioned.

Still, he was okay with this arrangement, as long as he got a wand that had a compatibility rating in the 90's he'll be happy. 78 just seemed bad.

Everyone's face lit up as another batch of sparks left from the tip of his glowing wand, the warm feeling returned, and Alex noticed that it was stronger than before.

...

[Adler Wand(Rare) {Compatibility 88%}: A wand crafted by the legendary wand crafter Garrick Ollivander. The wand is 9 1/2 Inches long and rigid. It is made up of Adler wood and has a phoenix core inside.]

[+30% to Charms]

[-5% to Dark Arts]

...

"Good, now we are getting somewhere!" Garrick spoke, his eyes shining as he watched Alex's aura react to the Adler wand.

Lily and James shared a look and the privacy of the tradition of selecting a wand was put aside for the concern they had.

"Mr. Ollivander?" Lily questioned, "Why are both these wands reacting to Alex?"

"Ah, of course," Garrick nodded absentmindedly for a moment, no one knew what he was nodding at. "It is not common knowledge but the secret to how a wand chooses a wizard is by matching the affinities of the wand's core with a wizard's core," Garrick spoke.

Lily looked concerned so he elaborated, "Every Witch and Wizard has certain affinities toward certain Magic arts, like you had a very high for charms and James had a greater affinity for Transfiguration. Similarly, each of you has one magical art that you don't have an affinity for. The cores of a wand are made up of different parts of a magical beast, who each had a unique magical affinity." Garrick explained.

Understanding dawned on her, but the fact that Alex might not have an affinity toward any magic because of the accident to his core frightened her. She kept those thoughts to herself and asked, "So Alex has the same affinity for every Magical art?" She questioned.

"Yes, either that or a very high affinity for a lot of the common magics which leads to him bonding for more than one wand. In this case, the wood from which the wand is made, is the primary contributor to the bond that he and a wand make." Garrick spoke, though he paused and sighed.

"Unfortunately, since during the testing process every wand that he claims would be bonded to him, I would have to recreate them if someone else wants to claim them later." Garrick hinted.

James understood his intentions and immediately responded, "Don't worry about money, fit Alex with the best wand he could possibly have."

Alex turned to look at James who gave him an encouraging smile. Alex nodded back and turned to Ollivander with an expectant look. He appreciated James' attempt to buy his affection by spending money, that was the primary reason he accepted himself back into the family.

'The 73% Compatibility had a -10% penalty for the second element. And the 88% compatibility one has a -5% reduction. If I get a greater fit would the penalty vanish.' Alex thought, he was eager to take another wand in his hands but Garrick shook his head.

"Although both of your Aura's are quite different, a pair of twins do share a special bond. Let's get Harry's wand first, once that happens we will try yours... that would also prevent..." Garrick started to explain before he mumbled out the rest of the sentence as he ducked behind his counter once again.

Seemingly lost in thought Garrick once again started rummaging through his collection. Alex shared a look with Harry whose eyes were staring at Ollivander in excitement. His excitement quickly died down as one after another no wand managed to even ignite a spark in his hands.

While it was quite funny to see Harry struggle, Alex's thoughts shifted to the Affinity tab that he had just unlocked. With a simple thought, another window appeared in front of him. It displays familiar magics but contains many more mysteries within it.

The affinity tab was a simple list of magics while a lot of them were locked behind a question mark. Alex could guess some of the magical arts that weren't there, like Alchemy and Mind Arts. When he thought about clicking a ??, a message popped up telling him that his level was too low.

...

[Character Level too Low!]

...

The Character level part didn't sit right with him but at the moment he had to let it go, like Ollivnader guessed he had a similar affinity for every element. While Lily and James thought that it must be a byproduct of his accident, Alex was pretty sure it was because he had these gamer-like powers.

'This is good though, I don't want to be stuck with any affinity lower than the other. I wonder what type of effects these bonuses provide.' Alex thought as he mentally clicked on the charms affinity tab.

'Two different types of boosts, 10% doesn't seem much but at least, when I choose a wand, the primary magical art that I could choose would at least have a 40% boost...' Alex's planning was interrupted by a spark of light flying from Harry's new wand.

Five different colored sparks burst from the tip as Ollivander clapped, his eyes were glazed as he stared at Harry which kind of crept Alex out.

"I guessed that one might be it, it's a good thing I saved that one," Garrick muttered and Alex knew which wand he was talking about.

"...this one, this was made out of holly, eleven inches long, nice and supple, and contains a single feather from the tail of a phoenix. An unusual combination but one that would suit you well." Garrick spoke.

"What do you mean you guessed that that particular wand might be the one?" Alex asked, curiously written on his face. He didn't know why he interfered, would it serve Harry or him anything knowing that Harry had a twin wand to Voldemort?

Maybe he was looking for the final confirmation that the Horcrux was in Harry's head, even though his mark was no longer there.

"...You see, the Phoenix feather that is in that wand was a gift. That Phoenix only gave one more feather. It's curious that, this wand chose Harry when the other one gave him that mark." Garrick pointed at Harry's forehead.

The atmosphere in the room shifted and James grabbed Lily's hand stopping him from interrupting Ollivander.

"...While I don't believe destiny is a thing, fate does bind our world into its treacherous yarn. You Harry Potter are destined for great things, for even he, did great things. Terrible. But great!" Garrick spoke, his glazed eyes staring into Harry's soul which frightened him a bit.

The soul-staring contest ended with Garrick stepping out of his trance as he once again began looking at the wall made of wands.

"Holly was it. Holly is one of the rarer woods used in wand-making, often choosing witches or wizards who are engaged in a dangerous spiritual quest. Quite an interesting wood. I have worked with it for almost a century but it still sometimes defies me. Maybe you would have a bit of better luck." Garrick spoke as he pulled out a wand from his walls and presented it to Alex.

'Dangerous spiritual quest... sounds about right.'

"Can I interest you in the art of wand making perhaps, with your natural core it would be easier for you to learn this craft, better than a lot of my ancestors perhaps," Garrick spoke as he stared into Alex's eyes.

Even though no box telling him that his mind was being read by Legilimency appeared in front of him, Alex felt like the old wizard was seeing right through him.

'Yep, no way in hell I'm coming back here!' Alex thought as he grabbed the wand. An uncomparable amount of energy flowed through his body as he could feel his body lighten up somewhat. His eyes widened as he stared at the notification window, as from the tip of his new wand a bright 5 colored sparks flew.
