The sofas and chairs in the common room were clearly not available to all of Hufflepuff House.
So, in line with the idea that when a few people have less power, everyone else has none, they were turned into small round tables for serving food. This way, all the Hufflepuffs had to stand while eating their entire meal.
But the little badgers wiped their mouths and declared it wasn't a big deal. They couldn't eat all kinds of food at just one table; they had to move around between the different tables.
And you do eat more while standing!
That night's dinner became a mini-carnival within Hufflepuff, and somehow, several professors heard about it later. Professor Sprout even mentioned it when she and Adam were taking care of the venomous tentacula one day.
"You did well. Food can soothe people, and sweets can make them happy, right?"
Professor Sprout handed Adam a box of Honeydukes assorted candies and, while Adam opened it, she asked when his store would be opening, saying she'd like to stop by sometime. She was curious to try the pumpkin pie and candies that so many Hufflepuffs were raving about.
Hearing this from his Head of House, Adam felt a bit odd—
Why did he suddenly feel like he was playing a business simulation game, with his reputation score up and unlocking a special customer?
Soon after, Adam discovered that this special customer was not limited to just Professor Sprout.
"Adam, Cedric came by earlier..."
Uther walked into the dormitory, puzzled, as he passed Cedric.
"He came to place orders for Professors and Dumbledore."
Adam's expression grew a bit complicated, but he quickly turned his focus back to the chess game in front of him.
"Queen, take the bishop."
After some progress, the chess pieces had enough confidence in Adam's current skills. The white queen raised her scepter and smashed the black bishop to pieces.
"Retreat the rook."
Stein gave the command to the pieces, glancing at Robert, who had just returned with Uther, and looked curious.
"An owl package? What did you order?"
"I didn't order anything. My parents sent it. I wrote to them about the troll, and they sent some stuff for self-defense."
Robert opened the package, revealing its contents: two pistols, ten boxes of ammunition, and five grenades.
Adam took one look and his eyes widened.
"Seriously, Robert, does your family deal in this sort of thing?"
"I told you my parents are lawyers, but they're well-connected with certain suppliers. Sometimes they handle tricky cases…"
Robert, under Adam's wide-eyed gaze, picked up one of the revolvers, skillfully operated it, and loaded the bullets.
"What's that?" Stein was no longer interested in the chess game, eyeing the objects in Robert's hands, and picked up a round item from the package.
"A Muggle weapon, probably comparable to a wizard's Killing Curse."
Robert said nonchalantly, then looked at Stein and added a warning.
"Don't touch the tab. It's a white phosphorus grenade."
"What?!" x4
Stein and Uther both stared at Robert in horror, even Mark jumped out of bed.
Adam, eyes wide, quickly and carefully snatched the white phosphorus grenade from Stein's hand.
Forget about guns—they could actually get hold of something like this? What kind of people were Robert's parents involved with?
The dormitory fell into an awkward silence until Robert looked up at everyone, puzzled.
"What's the matter?"
"Ahem, Robert, that comparison was a bit off. While these weapons can be lethal, they're different from the Killing Curse..."
Adam, seeing everyone's reaction, pondered for a moment before realizing what the problem was. Then he noticed something odd.
"Wait a minute—how do you know about the Killing Curse?"
"I read about it in a book."
Robert still seemed unaware of the issue.
"Book? Where did you find a book describing the Killing Curse?"
Uther stared at him suspiciously.
"Uh... a library book."
Robert looked guilty.
"Which book in the library?" Mark pressed.
"...Fine, I snuck into the Restricted Section and read it."
Robert confessed.
"The Restricted Section? How'd you get in?"
Stein's eyes lit up, but Uther elbowed him.
That's not the point!
Stein thought it over and realized there was another important issue.
"Adam, how do *you* know about the Killing Curse?!"
"Uh, well…"
"I wasn't allowed in at first, but then I taught myself the lock-picking spell and the Disillusionment Charm..."
Noticing everyone's wary attitude, Robert gave in and told the full truth.
"Hiss—"
Adam, who understood the difficulty of those spells, especially the Disillusionment Charm, sucked in a breath. Wasn't Robert's talent a bit too advanced for Hufflepuff?
Still, out of concern for safety, Adam kindly reminded him:
"Robert, many books in the Restricted Section have nasty curses. Be careful."
As soon as he said it, Adam noticed the other three were now looking at him with strange expressions.
"It seems we need to teach you both about the seriousness of the Unforgivable Curses. I'd rather not wake up one day and find one of you missing from your bed, sent off to Azkaban."
Uther said seriously.
Mark and Stein nodded in agreement.
"And stay away from the Restricted Section! That's a dangerous place!"
Adam, who hadn't even done anything wrong yet but was still being targeted for a lecture, sighed: "Wait, listen to me..."
After some impromptu education, Robert rubbed his chin thoughtfully.
"I see… But I get why the Imperius Curse and the Cruciatus Curse are Unforgivable. Why is the Killing Curse one too? Aren't there other spells that can kill?"
"There are indeed other deadly curses, but the Killing Curse is unique. It can only kill, and it requires a firm, clear intent to succeed."
As Adam finished explaining, he noticed Uther and the others were giving him even stranger looks.
"No, no, I'm just…"
Before Adam could explain further, Uther patted him on the shoulder and sighed.
"Go ahead and apply for Egyptian citizenship. If you ever get sent to Azkaban, I'll have my father work on getting you extradited to Egypt."
Adam blinked, speechless. "Thanks, but I don't think I'll need it."
As he said, there were plenty of curses that could kill. In comparison, the Killing Curse wasn't even efficient.
"Don't look at me. Look at Robert! I only know the theory, while his package is far worse. White phosphorus grenades, come on!"
Adam gave a quick lecture on white phosphorus to his three roommates, who glanced back and forth between Robert and Adam.
"Are Muggles really this terrifying?"
"What's it got to do with me?" Adam protested, confused.
"My parents just want me to be safer at school."
Robert, who had seemed guilty earlier, now stood his ground.
"The troll incident at Hogwarts hasn't even been fully explained yet. What if something worse happens? A pistol might not stop a troll, but white phosphorus rounds sure could!"
"I'm just a first-year. I got here, and in my first semester, a troll invades Hogwarts. Of course, I'm terrified. Can't I have some form of self-defense?"
This level of preparedness was almost over the top!
Adam slapped Robert on the back.
"Hey, help me meet your parents' friend!"
