Jin Nian

After an hour or so, Su Yun woke up. Thankfully, Shen Yu was still sleeping. She went to do her morning routine, such as bathing and cooking.

Both of them went walking towards the same road as Market. However, unlike before, they attracted the attention of passersby.

On their first day, the market was rather unresponsive to them.

Just as they set up their stall, a small group of customers rushed towards it.

Su Yun was speechless. She hasn't even started to make bread sticks yet, and the customers are already here.

Only when Shen Yu nugged her did she come back to her senses.

Both of them hurriedly went to work.

After two hours of work, they finally realized that it was already half past noon.

Looking at the empty stall, they finally rested.

Shen Yu hesitated and looked at Su Yun. Su Yun caught him glancing at her.

Knowing he was caught pecking at her, he immediately turned his face away.

"Do you want to say something?" I asked.

"You remember what I said last night?" Said Shen Yu. "Umm...what?" I asked.

Both of us had blushing cheeks out of embarrassment.

'It's a little embarrassing'

After meeting with Moon, there was almost a day gap between now and night. It was probably impossible for me to remember anything.

"About our neighbor, Ji Nian..." Said Shen Yu.

'Ji Nian...'

'Sister Ji Nian!'

I suddenly smiled. "Ok, let me tell you."

And just like that, I started to tell him about my first friend in this world.

Flashback

(Between chapters 4 and 5' timeline)

Knock! Knock!

My gaze turned toward the door. It's just past noon; it couldn't be Shen Yu.

'Who could be at this time...?' I thought, but I still went to open the door.

There was a pretty lady standing there. She was holding a bag.

'If I remember correctly, isn't it our neighbor?' I thought

"Hello, Su Yun, remember me? I'm Ji Nian. The clothes you gave me for sewing have been made. I came to give them," Ji Nian said, smiling. She extended the basket to me.

'Ah! So her name is Ji Nian. I almost forgot.

I nodded and took it.

I curled my lips and said, "Mis. Ji Nian, please sit for a while. After all, it's the first time you came to our house."

She nodded and followed me.

While walking towards the living room, Mis. Ji Nian said, "Please call me Sister Ji Nian instead." I nodded my head.

'so cute' Ji Nian thought.

Most people at first might not think that Su Yun can be regarded as a gentle woman. But she is actually quite cute and caring.

Not everyone can be shown to this side.

Only those who are close to her or people with good eyes, like Ji Nian, can see it.

Shen Yu must also choose to buy and marry her because of this.

He must have good eyes too, which can tell a person's darkness by looking at them.

It isn't accurate or anything, just human instincts.

After their silence for a while, I felt awkward. But thankfully, Ji Nian spoke.

"Su Yun, what does Shen Yu do?" Said her. It was asked politely. "He works as a laborer." I replied. She nodded.

"Where have you guys lived before?" She asked.

I felt my body stiffen at the question. But I managed to say, "We both used to live in Ping Village, near the town. Shen Yu used to do work in the military. After he came back, we both married and came to town."

She nodded. Suddenly, I remembered something!

"Sister Ji Nian, do you know where I can buy chicks? Shen Yu goes to work daily; it's hard for him to find time for this." I said.

'It was actually a half lie. Shen Yu simply doesn't know where to buy it, and he doesn't have enough time to go search for it in the market because he comes back late in the evening'.

She smiled and nodded.

She said, "There's a granny who raises chicks and sells them. She also sells good vegetables and homemade stuff at a cheap price. You should go to her."

"But I don't know the way to her home." I said.

She slapped a palm on her forehead and said, "I should have noticed the obvious! But don't worry, I will accompany you." I nodded.

I hurriedly went inside to grab my purse. "You should also get a basket." I heard her say behind me, 'Right! Basket..how can I forget that..' I will find a medium-sized basket soon.

We both left together for Chicken Granny's house. It was on the same side as Aunt Wang's house. Just a little far away.

The house was a little small compared to theirs and looked old. A door was opened by an old lady.

She looked very old, but her eyes looked energetic. She smiled toward us.

"Hello, Granny Mu," said Ji Nian, bowing. Su Yun also bowed.

"Ji Nian, it's been awhile since you came here. Who is this little girl with  you?"She asked politely. "She is Su Yun. She and her husband recently came here. They brought old Zu's house," said Ji Nian.

Hearing this, Granny nodded and invited them in. It looked quite old from the outside but was very clean from the inside.

'The old lady must be cleaning it regularly,' I thought.

We sat down on the floor. It wasn't the western table like that in our house, but rather very short in height.

A person had to sit on the ground. But thankfully, there were custions there.

Just as we sat, their Ji Nian said, "Granny Mu, Su Yun is new here and wanted to buy some chicks. Do you have them at the moment?"

Granny Mu nodded and led them towards the yard. We followed her.

There were a lot of cute, yellow-yellow chicks there. I felt my heart melt at the sight.

"How many do you want? Who are the males and females?" Granny Mu asked.

I replied some time, "Granny Mu, I will buy 12 female and 10 male chicks." Granny Mu nodded but still said, "Are you sure? People like to prefer far fewer males compared to females."

I just shook my head and said, "It's fine." Hearing my words, Granny Mu placed the chicks in my basket.

"1 wen per male chick, 2 female chicks per 3 wen." Said her. I nodded and handed over 28 wen.

After that, we sat there for a while and went out to our respective homes.

"All you did was buy chicks," said Shen Yu, a little dissatisfied. "Is that so? Let me tell you more." I said, glaring at him.
