Chapter 13: The Student Council

After a pretty easy mathematics class, where the teacher simply explained a few things about how his subject worked, I headed quickly to class 102, which was nearby for my science class.

I was looking forward to it, since William and I were in the same science class.

When I arrived, a few students were already sitting, waiting for the class to start, but there were also a lot of students leaving and entering the room.

During my first period, I had thought the large doors at the side of the classroom were odd, but seeing the number of students leaving and entering the room, it now made sense.

Anyway, I looked around the room and finally saw a familiar face. I walked to the front row and tapped him on the shoulder.

"Hey, looks like you're early." I said, with a smile on my face.

"Oh, my math class was in this class as well, so I just sat in the same room." He answered.

Before I arrived, he was showing a group of people, including Hannah, who I had met on my first day, something on his phone.

"Oh, by the way, I was just showing them the message we just received." He said, putting his phone screen in my direction.

I read the short message quickly in my mind:

"Dear First Year Students,

Anyone who's interested in hearing about the student council, its objectives and how to apply is free to come to the conference room SC04 during break time. The room is in the student council building, attached is a map to get to it."

As soon as I was finished reading and before I could say anything about it, Hannah started talking.

"I really don't get this school; sudden messages all the time with short notices, and so many hints that this school isn't normal and stuff…" She said, looking annoyed.

"Sounds fun, I'd like to at least go to the meeting to learn about the student council, it could be useful." I said, the idea really convincing me.

"What do you mean fun? It just sounds like a bother, who would even want to join the student council?" She commented.

"I mean… it may help us in the future, or we could even meet other students that way. You're not going to join any clubs are you, Hannah?" Said William, reluctantly disagreeing with Hannah.

That seemed to trigger something within her, since she changed her mind. "Well… If you're going then I'm willing to give it a try."

"Oh, but would it be possible to take part in both a club and the student council? That's often not allowed, but I made up my mind to join the art club yesterday!" Said a boy I didn't know.

"Well, you can always go to the meeting and ask about it there. Oh, also, Zenon this is Louis. Louis this is Zenon." He introduced us to each other.

Louis was a short, tan boy with curly hair and glasses. From what he said, he was a member of the art club as well. I don't remember his face from yesterday's tutor group meeting.

"Well, that's decided then! We'll go to the student council information meeting after this lesson." Announced William happily, without a second thought.

After that, we had our first science lesson. The teacher, Ms. Margherita, was a middle aged woman with shoulder-length straight hair and glasses.

The class was as simple as the one earlier; she simply went through a general presentation of the subject and asked us what we would like to learn about.

The only odd thing was that we would learn about biology, physics and chemistry in the same subject throughout the year.

Well, after the lesson we headed to room SC04, as was planned.

There were far less people than I had imagined, and the conference room was quite empty by the time the people on stage started talking.

It was a small group of people, but they were laughing with each other before the meeting started; you could tell they were good friends.

The first person to talk was Student Council President Stella. She was a third-year student, and she spoke with a serious but comforting voice.

Overall, she felt like an older sister, and she seemed apologetic about us first-year students not knowing much about the inner workings of the school.

However, despite her relating to us and looking back to her start here as a first-year student, she said we needed to be patient and that we would eventually understand how this school works.

She went on to talk about how the student council at this school was quite important, since it had a direct effect on the workings of this school and the future student evaluations.

She explained these so-called "student evaluations" were monthly events in which the students would compete with each other, being able to get a higher purchasing power; more points to spend.

After that, she warned us about not spending our points too carelessly. Yes, it was nice to be able to go out with your friends, but the points could be useful in the future.

After that, Vice-President Alexa, a second-year student, told us about different roles you could do in the student council, so anyone could join even if they are into different things.

The council did various jobs, from evaluating what kind of knowledge the academy taught us to creating events for the students to enjoy.

It did really seem like a good idea to participate in the student council, so I made up my mind to try applying.

After that, the Secretary, a tall and thin third-year student called David, who was writing on a laptop during the whole meeting, stood up and started talking about the application process.

In his place, Alexa sat down and continued writing on the laptop.

He told us to write a message to a phone number he gave us and to explain why we wanted to join. He then told us about how the application process went, with a private interview between the student council members and the applicant.

After the meeting ended, I was leaving the room when I heard my name being called out from behind me. When I turned around, I saw a boy I remembered from the introductions and lunch on the first day, Adam.

"What's up? You thinking of joining the student council too?" He said, smiling.

I answered honestly. "Yeah, it seems like a good opportunity overall."

"We can be council besties then, I plan on joining too!" He said, winking at me.

"That's great, I look forward to working with you then." I said, smiling and extending my hand.

He shook my hand and then remembered something. "Oh, by the way, what's your contact info?"

I shared with him my phone number and scrolled through the apps on my phone, tapping on the calendar app.

It was almost time for my next and final lesson of the day, Art. it was scheduled to be in the "Gallery Lobby"

There's even a gallery in this school? Just how big is it?

Well, in any case, I caught up with William, who was heading to the same place.

Hello! It's been a while since the last chapter was published. I didn't really know how to continue the story, but I sorted it out and I'll continue publishing new chapters weekly!
