25 Chapter 23

"Wake up Lily…" I gently shook her.

A few prefects had come a while ago and asked everyone to get ready.

Lily had fallen asleep with Nyx after eating almost all the chocolate frogs. I was sleepy too but I just pulled a book out and read it to pass the time.

We had been on the train the whole day and nobody had come to our compartment surprisingly.

Seeing how she wasn't waking up, I shook her a bit harder and she finally woke up.

"..What..where…" She woke up startled but calmed down after seeing me.

"Awake?"

"Ye...haaah~" she began but ended up yawning.

"Right...we are almost there, come on let's get ready."

"Mhmm…" Lily was still sleepy but quickly woke up.

I then helped her pack her things up and brought her trunk down. We had already changed into our robes before boarding the train so we didn't need to waste too much time.

We stepped into the corridor which was filled with other first years trying to move about. Just when we were about to take our trunks, a senior student spotted us and informed us that we had to leave the luggage here and that they would be transported to our rooms after we got sorted.

I had no problem with that and just set my luggage along with Lily's in a corner and closed our compartment.

"So...are you nervous?" I asked Lily who walked behind me.

"Well...a little, but I also want to meet new people. Maybe make some friends? What about you Sev?"

"Hmm...I just want to learn more magic I guess…" I replied as I thought about learning.

As we neared Hogwarts, it started kicking in that though I would be learning magic….it was still a school which meant assignments, exams and all the other horrors that I would have to experience again...this time without the internet to help me.

As we walked through the narrow corridor, I noticed many first year students walking around and they all looked like they had already formed their own clique.

"So what house do you want to be in Sev?" Lily asked me.

"Hmm...good question. Well I haven't really thought much about it…."

Indeed I hadn't as I felt that I couldn't fool the sorting hat. Well even if I could, it would not make much of a difference as I was pretty sure that the hat couldn't inform the Headmaster about what it saw.

As for the houses, observing my traits and actions, the house I most had affinity with was Slytherin with Ravenclaw being second. Slytherin because self preservation was considered a slytherin trait and it was my biggest trait.

I did have a few bouts of resourcefulness and as for cunning, me basically manipulating Eileen and Lily for my own agenda counted I guess….

The other traits valued in Slytherin were ambition and leadership. I didn't want to lead anyone yet but I did have ambitions of becoming a strong wizard. Pursuing immortality also counted as an ambition.

Overall Slytherin looked like the best option but it came with a few problems like my housemates if I ever ended up in it. Voldemort was still alive and had not been vanquished so his followers were slowly rising with the majority if not all being from Slytherin.

Him being the heir of Slytherin meant that I was basically expected to follow him. All the major noble houses or at least the dark ones were on his side.

Another issue is me being a halfblood but this is not a problem for now. I just have to keep my mouth shut and nobody will know I am a halfblood. I am also the heir of a noble house (declined but still…) while most of the ones there are just purebloods without any noble house behind them so even if they learnt of it somehow, I will still be treated normally for the most part.

Coming back to other options, Ravenclaw was ideal as I did have some traits of it. It would allow me to stay neutral and not be antagonised by the marauders but I was not too confident in making it to Ravenclaw. I knew I didn't have to be smart to be in Ravenclaw but the fact that I had to answer a riddle everytime I wanted to enter was a bit of a turn off.

I mean I could probably get them right but what if I couldn't and I am outside the dorm at night. I did have plans of abusing the Room of Requirements after all. Besides, I didn't consider myself smart or a genius. All I had was foreknowledge, a modern outlook on life and an above average memory.

So I wasn't sure if I had enough Ravenclaw in me to be sorted into it. Then the last two choices left were Gryffindor and Hufflepuff.

I wouldn't be sorted into Gryffindor as I am not very brave. I mean wanting immortality because I was afraid of death is not very Gryffindor like.

And as for Hufflepuff, I guess I was somewhat hard working but I was not very loyal.Sure I had Eileen and to some extent Lily but I wouldn't trust them completely. The secret of my transmigration and the stuff I knew about the future were things I would take to the grave.

"Sev...hello~ Anyone in there?"

My thoughts were interrupted by Lily who kept waving her hand in front of me.

"Hmm….sorry about that Lily, I was lost in my thoughts..."

"Oh..its alright, it happens to me all the time..you should have seen that time when…."

"....I think I might be sorted into Slytherin…"I said, cutting her off.

Lily stopped in her tracks and looked at me in surprise, "S-Slytherin!! ..y-you mean the house with the purebloods?"

"Hm...Yes...I think I have a high chance of ending up there given my desires." I said not specifying what those desires were.

"What about you Lily?" I asked.

She still seemed shaken by my answer, "...Um I was thinking about Ravenclaw or gryffindor...but now I am not too sure."

I sensed disappointment in her tone. I guess she wanted to be in the same house as me but her chances of being sorted into slytherin were slim to none.

I wondered if interacting with her would change the house she would end up in. From what I observed though, she still had a high chance of being sorted into Gryffindor.

Well my actions had consequences so I just had to deal with them as they came, I wasn't too worried about the sorting as I planned to depend on myself first before others.

No matter what house I ended up in, I would still have the same goals, just had to take a different approach.

As we were walking the train began to slow and with a jerk it finally stopped. We had arrived at our destination.

We stepped out of the train and landed on damp soil. It was night now and the sun had long set. The air around was quite chilly so it made sense that we were asked to wear our cloaks beforehand.

In my sight stood an imposing castle, I had seen it quite often from Hogsmeade but this was my first time seeing it up close. I felt excitement bubble up within me as I saw a familiar figure approaching.
