Baby stuff

'Do you have a shift tonight?' Dieter asked whilst I was still wrapped in his arms.

'Yeah. I think Callum and Harper are coming to the bar.' I snuggled into him.

'Then I'll stay home with Diego.' He stroked my hair.

'You sure?'

'Of course! You go put your stuff where you want it and I'll start building the baby stuff, I think the room on the left up the stairs will be alright for him but you can take a look.' He started rummaging around Diego's things.

'Alright. My shift starts in an hour.' I said while taking a box to our room. I got changed for work and started unpacking clothes from the boxes. The room was beautiful with a walk in wardrobe. It was nearly time for the shift so I grabbed my bag and scurried down stairs. Dieter had the high chair, baby bed and the stroller made. He was shirtless with his scruffy jeans on and beads of sweat running down him.

'Could I take the car I'm running a bit late.' I said, glancing at the clock.

'Go ahead.' He was scratching his head and looking at some instructions. Diego was still asleep on the sofa and Freya was with him, chewing on her toy. I kissed Dieter on the cheek.

'Love you.' I said while shoving the keys in my bag.

'Love you too, see you soon!' He smiled, not looking up from the instructions. I left the house and hurried over to the bar.

'Hey, sorry I'm late.' I said as I walked through the door.

'Eh, no worries you're not that late. Opening in 5.' River was behind the bar, organising the bottles. I quickly rushed in the peg room and got ready before joining him at the bar.

'Callum and Harper are coming today I think.' I said as I tied the waist apron around me.

'Oh yeah. I hope we're not busy.' He said while wiping the surfaces.

'I know. We're opening.' I walked over to the door and changed the sign. We served the drinks then Callum burst through the door.

'Hiya.' He came and sat straight down at the bar Harper not far behind him.

'Hey, come from the new house?' She grinned at me.

'New house?' River turned to me.

'Oh, I moved in with Dieter today. What would you guys like to drink?' I said quickly. River raised his eyebrow. We were chatting in between customers.

'So there's four in that household.' Callum sipped his drink. Clearly he had been wanting to drop the news all evening.

'Four? What do you mean? Wait. Dieter, Ari, Freya...whose the fourth one? Wait! Unless you were pregnant when you visited me!' Harper counted our names on her fingers as she said them.

'Uh, no. We kinda adopted a baby boy.' I said.

'What?' River stopped what he was doing and looked at me.

'Well he kinda was left at the mall and no one came for him so we took him.' I explained.

'Oh, alright then.' River said, looking dazed.

'So is Dieter with the baby?' Harper asked.

'Yeah, his name is Diego.' I smiled.

'Oh. we supposed to have closed two minutes ago.' River said whilst closing the bar down and disappearing into the peg room, then emerging with mine and his things. I thanked him then hugged everyone goodbye before jumping back into the car and driving home. All the lights were out except for the living room. I went in, all the boxes had been cleared, he had finished making all the baby things. I plonked my bag on the table next to the door and made my way to the living room. Dieter was fast asleep on the sofa with Jake curled up in his right arm and Freya sleeping at his feet. I rested my hand on his cheek and he slowly woke up.

'Oh. Hi hunny, how was work?' He yawned.

'Great thanks, how was it here.' I stroked Diego's sleeping head.

'Fine, fine.' I took Diego up to his bed and he snuggled up in the blankets. I came down stairs, Freya was asleep on her bed. Me and Dieter joined them both and went to bed. We fell asleep in each others arms. Two hours later we were woken up by a crying noise from across the house. Dieter yawned and sat up.

'I'll go, sweetie.' He got up, then the crying stopped then he soon returned. We took it in turns through the whole night.
