Chapter 39 Return

Vertigo was laughing as he watched the military forces of Vlatava fall back from his new toy. Waller had run when the mission went south. No one was left to turn the suits into so Vertigo had kept his. Unfortunately, he missed the chance at his niece due to him running away with the zaku, but he followed her back to their country and was attacking the country. Forces loyal to him were aiding on the ground, and he was taking on any major resistance with the mobile suit.

The campaign was going well. In less than 8 hours, he steamrolled the military and was approaching the castle. (Once I kill her, I will be king of Vlatava.) He thought to himself. Unknown to him, a single mobile suit slipped into the atmosphere plummeting to earth at high speed. The first time Vertigo realized something was wrong was when a green beam cut his gun in half. The attacking Mobile Suit landed in a cloud of dust that obscured it for a few seconds.

As the dust cleared, Vertigo took a step back in fear. The Freedom appeared standing in between Vertigo and the castle. "Yo...Yo....Your dead," He stuttered.

"You wish." Came the short reply from Mike.

Vertigo took a step back before recovering a little confidence. "Ghost or not, I have an army. Attack me, and they will start killing civilians."

There was a cold laugh from Mike at that. "You think I came alone?" A barrage of missiles pinpointed the supply lines, A couple of large beams devastated an infantry position A black mobile suit materialized before cutting apart tanks like they were paper. A pink Gundam appeared targeting naval vessels, and a black and white Gundam with gold accents destroyed the air forces that were aiding Vertigo. Mike then pointed up at the Archangel settling in above the city.

"This little war of yours is over." Mike said with finality.

Vertigo made as if to run. "No, you coward."Mike responded, moving to block his escape.

Vertigo then tried to surrender to his niece. Being young, he believed her easily manipulated. Prison was better than death after all. "No, Vertigo." Came her response. "You have gone too far this time. Not only have you committed treason, but you committed an act of terrorism against Orb, a nation that could crush us. As compensation for their help, you are left to them to deal with."

"Thank you, Queen Perdita. Morganrote will also be more than happy to help with any medical or disaster relief you may require as a result of this war." Mike spoke up. "Now then, coward your Zaku still has its close range weapon." He then put away his beam rifles, drawing a single beam saber. " Fight or die like a coward."

Vertigo drew his ax with great reluctance. He then made a desperate swing at the Freedom. Mike dodged by a hairsbreath before striking out with his sword, cutting off the zakus arm. Mike then pauses to let Vertigo pick up the ax with the Zaku's other arm. He threw the ax and attempted to run. Mike caught the ax with the Freedom before throwing it back, cutting off one of the zakus legs.

As Vertigo was staring out of the cameras, he saw the Freedom raise the sword. The last thing Vertigo saw was the pinkish red blade stabbing into the zaku's cockpit, killing Vertigo. He then picked up the Zaku and brought it back to the Archangel.

He then spoke to Queen Perdita. "Thank you for your assistance with bringing this terrorist to justice. If Orb or Morgonrote can help in any fashion, please let us know."

He then recalled everyone, and the Archangel began to fly towards the US and Morgonrote. The UN contacted him asking to act as an intermediary between Orb and the US government. Apparently, they did not want to risk him going to war. They asked what his demands for reparations were from the US's foolish actions.

Gavin asked for time to discuss the issue with his country. The UN agreed but asked him to stay in international waters until the matter was resolved. He agreed but said he would not stay for too long, and the only mass driver was in Morgonrote. They were also going to send out an observer just to keep an eye on the situation. After briefing everyone of the situation, he played along for now, staying in international waters for the night.

When he retired to his room He summoned schematics for the Zero System, The Astrays, and then looked into the system. After looking at the customization system, he went to sleep.
