Eight

Vanya pulled away awkwardly her hand from Yavin's grasp and showed to him a device. His brow arched questioning what was the device. It was a pocket-sized cube painted with plain blue color.

"What was that supposed to be?" Yavin inquired.

"This," she raised the cube device and threw it on the ground, "is how we get into the astral plane."

The cube rolled on the ground until it stopped, and that was how it started cracking. Stream of lights leaked out from the cube until it extended all around the area.

Yavin and Vanya covered their eyes as the cube exploded with a blinding light. After a few seconds, the light was slowly being consumed back again by the cube device until Vanya and Yavin no longer need to cover their eyes.

Vanya stepped out from their still position and walked towards the cube device.

"This is a device we exorcist use to transport us into the astral plane. I can't tell you the details of how it was made, since there is a lot of stuff involving science and magic to produce this device." She chuckled at herself then suddenly raised her right feet and crashed the device.

Yavin released a gasp as he was surprised by Vanya's action. The cube was crushed into pieces. How are they going to get out of this plane?

Vanya noticed Yavin's reaction and snickered at him. "Don't worry, we can still go back to the physical realm. The device has one-time use only once the light was consumed for warping. I have other cube devices in my pocket," she assured him.

He nodded at her then he scanned his surroundings. The whole place still looked the same from where they were earlier except for the absence of noise from the students, birds chirping, and the howling of the wind. They were still on the rooftop, but this time they were alone now.

"Come on," Vanya beckoned him to follow her and they climbed down the stairs. As they passed several hallways as they went their way going down, this was the first time he felt an eerie feeling in his school. He never saw Rockvale High so abandon and lacking in life and noise.

They'd arrived at the empty school ground and a few meters away from the gate then Vanya could release them from the astral plane. She explained to him during their trip at the stairs that once they are off the school ground, they will exit the astral plane. No need to continue walking in the plane since a lot of dangerous entities were also lurking in here. Yavin was about to raise his hand to ask about these entities, but she just shook her head at him and mouthed Another time.

She told him they will just walk their way to the academy back in the physical realm. Vanya walked off towards the school gate, but Yavin hurried after her and pulled her to stop.

"What? What's wrong?" Vanya sounded irritated.

"Before we exit out from the astral plane, I wanted to do something that I've been meaning to do since morning," he explained.

Vanya halted her steps and faced him. She placed her hands on her hips then nodded at him. "Make it quick. They are really eager to meet you back in the academy."

"This will be quick," he responded.

Vanya looked at him patiently waiting for whatever he was planning to do. Ignoring her, Yavin sucked in the air and exhaled it out. He then raised his right arm and focused his attention on it. He recalled the events from last night how he can control three different powers. He put his mind into it summoning the flame first.

He flexed his hands and veins started popping out but nothing seemed to happen.

"Okay. I can see that you're flexing your arm. Is that supposed to impress me?" Vanya complained.

Yavin sighed in frustration and lowered his arm. "I was summoning the powers I wielded last night."

"Oh," Vanya pursed her lips. "Yeah, I watched the video from yesterday. And to tell you the truth, I was impressed by it."

"There's a video? Can I see it?" He exclaimed excitedly.

Vanya nodded at him. "My partner, Miyuki recorded the whole thing yesterday. Unfortunately, I don't have the copy, right now. We can show it to you once we arrive at the academy. Though I'm curious, how come you have those kinds of powers? And I remembered also that you were impaled by the demon. There was a gaping hole on your body."

"Ummm," Yavin scratched his cheek. He was not sure how to answer Vanya. He had a deal with those three symbols that he can't tell a single soul about the origin of his powers. "I'm not so sure also. It just came to me once I regained consciousness. So that's why I'm trying to summon my power again to check if that really happened."

Vanya scrutinized him for a moment. Yavin was not sure if she bought whatever he was saying, but he needed to divert her attention again.

"Okay! I will try to summon my powers again!" he shouted, startling Vanya.

Yavin raised his right arm again and wished to the three symbols to make his powers appear again. "I summon you!"

For a moment, nothing happened again. But Yavin kept on screaming on his arm pleading to it. Then he remembered how hopeless he was when the goat demon approached Vanya last night. And he can't help feeling it again right now.

Was light night just a fluke? he asked himself. But they had a deal. They will grant him powers in return, he will be their errand boy for whatever reason.

"Shit!" He kicked the sands on the ground out of frustration. He was totally feeling angry at those three symbols.

"Are you mad?" Vanya asked tentatively.

"Yes! I'm totally mad right-"

Yavin noticed that Vanya's eyes grew large. She was looking in the direction of his right arm.

His arm started glowing and that glow shaped into a red-orange aura enveloping his whole right arm. It was like his arm was on fire. But Yavin didn't feel any pain from it. Yet Yavin could feel a warm heat radiating from it also.

"I think your power is resonating based on your emotions," Vanya explained while her eyes still locked on his right arm. Dancing flames surround his arm, and from her position, he could feel the heat intensity of it. It was not an ordinary fire.

"Yes! Finally!" Yavin put his fist in the air and willed it to release a flame. The fire around his arm started glowing again and from his fist, it released a large ball of fire shooting upwards.

The ball of fire fired straight in the clouds, then when it reached a certain altitude, it exploded in the atmosphere, creating a huge wave.

Both Yavin and Vanya were left with their mouth hanging open.

"Whoa," both of them said in awe.

Then Vanya cleared her throat and grabbed other arm of Yavin. "We have to go now and leave the astral plane. That ball of fire just made us a target to whoever entities residing in this plane."

She yanked Yavin's arm dragging him out of the school property. Then Vanya quickly pulled something from her pocket and threw the cube device on the ground.

And another blinding light enveloped them.
