Ainz's POV
It's been a few weeks after our discovery of the Brindled Men, its habitat and the Cult that made them, and I have learned a lot from then on
First off! They are sensitive to light! I guess them living underground for all their lives lead to this sensitivity. But with their lack of sight, they compensate it with an acute sense of smell and effective sensitivity.
They could even sense or 'smell' ores and other minerals even though it's deep within the walls or floor of the cave.
'I just found ourselves the new employees to our future 'Happy Mine'! What a delightful addition to my growing collection!'
The problem is though, the Brindled Men can't procreate with humans and other races. It is exclusive only to Brindled Women. Cause if they do the deed with others then it would all result in still births, body mutilations and premature deaths.
As for how they tested it out? It's best for you not to know.
'Their experiments would make Demiurge proud if the details of the book is to be made published.'
The pregnancy part even came to me as a shocker cause it would take 5 years for just one baby to form. FIVE LONG FREAKING YEARS!
Not only that! It's not even assured if the baby's gonna survive nor will the mother. So in 5 years, either you get 1 addition to the family or become 1 to 2 less of a family with a widowed Brindled Man.
'I guess I will have lesser staff to man the 'Happy Mines'. What a bummer.'
No wonder despite the space in the cave, it was not filled to the brim nor did a dungeon outbreak happen.
They just can't replenish their numbers fast enough to compensate with the number of deaths and by the record of the books, they become mature enough for procreation by the time they reach 15 but they could only live up to 30 years—35 years if they're lucky.
'Talk about medieval times life cycle but in Hell Mode, right?'
I think that can be remedied with a few 'Angelic Intervention'.
So I instructed my Angelic Legion to put every Brindled people to 'sleep' and store them inside my Cryopods for future use and experiments.
Hopefully they'll get used to our bright might. Wouldn't want our employees to go wild now, do we? I'll let the Angelic HR department handle the work.
On to the next subject, even though it took quite a while to learn and decipher the books all thanks to my Job Class, [High Sage], I was still not able to decipher the Runes that was etched in the floor by the altar nor the cryogenic coffins back at the lab.
The Job Class basically makes my learning experience and processing new knowledge easier and lighter compared to using my regular old brain.
Somehow, when I put my mind or intentions into something like, 'I want or need to read and understand this or that', I was able to comprehend it after a long while of staring at pages to breakdown its linguistics rhythm.
They also don't have any books about said runes so I guess it's either they knew and memorized everything by heart and mind or they are already well versed before they even came here. The problem is from where exactly?
'If only there was some kind of 'Rune Magic for Dummies' guide, that would have been greatly appreciated and helpful.'
'Should I advance my plans then? That way I could go travel the rest of the world except for Westeros and Essos, to not forsake the plot. I wouldn't want the 'prophecy' of the characters be filled in with unknown people now, would we?'
Besides, as interesting the Game of Thrones are, it wouldn't compare to the importance of getting to know of the world and of what it used to be.
It's never too wrong to know who the 'real' players are and who are the chess pieces in this big chess board.
I'd rather be a bystander for now. A proactive yet silent observer as the world turns.
Starting with the origins of this mythic Great Empire of the Dawn and who this 'The one who can't be named' Outer God.
There's bound to be something worth knowing.
It's just sad though. I initially wanted to name my kingdom as the 'Land of the New Dawn' but I guess it's just not meant to be. How sad.
I guess it's for the better, since I don't want be associated with them nor would I wish for the others to think that a 'New Long Night' is gonna happen. That's just bad PR and definitely gonna lead to negative Reputation Points so I guess it's a good thing.
But lets not talk about that anymore.
Remember that one Brindled Man that was chasing after the animals that passed through the [Gate]? Well...
The one that was able to pass through the gate was hunching back like some ape but it still hold its humanoid features. Except for the snout like nose, it could pass as a long armed striped human when turned at its back.
And just as I was expected, it is indeed strong. With a little [Charm] and [Dominate] here and there. I was able to command it to punch a tree. The result? It punched a large fisted dent on it's bark.
I guess the magical runes and that greenish substance not only made it possible for whatever this guy's mother or father was bred with to look like that, and made it possible for it to survive such mutation.
I have to read more about that, I still haven't finished reading all of the restored fleshy books.
I initially wanted to eradicate their existence from the face of Planetos, since it is but a blasphemy to the world of creation but I got to hand it to them.
For no one knows how long these guys escaped from such confinement and literally dug their way out for survival.
Besides, maybe it would become possible to teach them a form of language to help communicate with others.
Cause it would be too much of an insult towards my children, my Angels, to let them do the mundane work of mining and transporting ores.
It doesn't suit their image. Angels are meant to fly, not grovel in dark caves, picking up shiny rocks.
They are meant for something more. A better and brighter purpose to this world, that's why I anchored them, not to do the pitiful humans' work.
Besides, we value free will and free mind here. We are a pro-choice settlement(?), right?
It would be too sad to ruin the minds of the Brindled men and women alike from too much use of spells like [Charm] and [Dominate], so teaching them it is. Maybe a few boosts of INT and WIS potions would work.
There's so much to do and so many to work with, but there is definitely one thing I want to do and address first.
The Landscape.
Sure the greenery is richer and is a nice pace from the perspective of a 'City Boy', but it's not a good thing for for future urbanization.
There's too many hills, that makes it hard to build things on.
Too many tall trees that have been deep-rooted for who knows how many years that makes it hard to uproot and build a sewage system.
Too many 'pesky' animals that can surely bleed and eat your little civilization to the death.
Not to mention the river, wide and deep as it may be, it has too many branches—big and small—to my liking.
The mountain ranges as well! Intimidating the height may seem it doesn't really hold much value other than rocks and marble.
But that can change.
With the use of my trump card!
Draw! Ultimate Skill, ACTIVATE!
...
Just kidding! It's just a spell, no biggie.
A special spell.
One that I haven't really used even back in the game, but I did have it in my arsenal thanks to my beloved, Sera.
'I miss you...'
Anyways, let's not get distracted right now, the spell is called, [Creation].
One of the few [Super Tier Spells] that doesn't really fit my Knightly self cause it's more akin to my love's field of expertise as a [Goddess].
[Creation] is basically a super-tier spell that can change the terrain itself. In YGGDRASIL, it was used to guard against the heat of volcanoes or the cold of freezing lands.
But if the Spell description is to be trusted. That means I am theoretically capable of creating new landscapes!
'Sick of living in a waterless dry desert? Use this spell to turn it into a freezing tundra!'
'Tired of picking stones all day? Try gold! or even better, a diamond! Surely your wife and the MILFs near you would appreciate it.'
'Want more water? Sorry, but due to water traffic, this river is shutdown. Try again later.'
The possibilities are endless!
But let's calm down first and try things out...
I rushed through the skies and settled up top in the middle of the river, facing south as the rocky mountains are in my sight. The strong salty winds up North hit my back as my bloody-red hair flowed through the breeze.
I spoke through the Spell [Message] and contacted all my Angels to not worry of what's about to happen and to keep our Settlement and Ape Tribe safe.
With a steady breath, I evoked the spell with an image in mind and hands in prayer...
"[Creation]!"
And everything went bright.
