And the reply he had gotten was a slap. She was the only woman who could dare to slap him.
What else had he thought she was doing there standing with some other man in the wedding dress?
Butler Li had already become his companion by that time and was the one who made all the arrangements for them to stay after Old Master Lin would run away with the bride.
When he went to pick them up from the place that had already been decided to meet beforehand; instead of witnessing two people in each other's arms crying their hearts out, he was met with a young man and a young bride bickering with their every ounce of energy.
Had they gotten the wrong script? Weren't they supposed to get emotional, hug each other and...kiss?
That was what Butler Li in his younger days had thought. Staying with them for a couple of days was more than enough to change his mindset about this young couple and had been a witness to them evolving as brilliant life partners over the years.
Old Madam Lin had been planning to spend a day with Jiang Ying Yue for several months now but due to her busy schedule, she never got the time. Now when the opportunity finally struck her, she had mapped out the whole day a week in advance; after attending the event she and Jiang Ying Yue would hang out together.
She had even prepared all the ingredients the previous night and got up early to prepare the lunch. But right now, she was seeing her plan for the second half of the day getting spoiled.
If the rain were to continue like this, how was she supposed to go on her date today?
"Why are you worrying for the second half of the day so early in the morning? Just go and attend the event with Xiao Yue. Rain most probably would end by then." Old Master Lin was the first one to give in at the end. Giving out an exhausted breath, he got up and walked out of the living room with a smile, leaving Old Madam Lin by herself.
His morning exercise for the day was done. For some people quarrelling with the spouse was a negative thing but for him, their bantering was a conveyer of warm feelings that even after so many years nothing had changed between them.
What was there back then had only grown stronger; be it their love or their bickering.
Jiang Ying Yue was already informed about the event for a month now. Generally, it should be her mother-in-law accompanying Grandmother Lin to this event as they had been doing so for years but due to her busy schedule, this time she was asked to switch places with Madam Lin.
Needless to say, Old Madam Lin was more than happy with this change.
Since the event was starting at sharp nine in the morning, she was up by six and had started getting ready within half an hour. If there was something else she was exceptionally talented in, it has to be doing her make-up and hair swiftly by herself without any help.
Picking up the black knee-length dress with embroidered shiny crystals the stylist had sent for her, she wore it and paired it with black pointed-toe stilettos.
Admiring her look in the mirror she smiled satisfactorily. She had put her long wavy hair in a french braid low bun. Thanks to the days she spent in Europe, she became an expert in make-up and hairstyles.
After giving herself a last appreciative look, she took her purse and went to the dining hall. Jiang Ying Yue was confused on not finding anyone there; that was odd. The maid standing on the side, seemingly waiting for her came to inform her about others' whereabouts.
"Young Madam, Old Master Lin had already left for his meeting and Old Madam Lin is still getting ready. She has told us to inform you to go ahead with breakfast as she has already eaten in her room."
"Okay."
By the time Jiang Ying Yue finished eating her breakfast, Old Madam Lin had already come down and was waiting for her inside the car. Hearing this, she hurriedly washed her hands and went to the car.
"Xiao Yue, you are looking so beautiful!"
She had not even sat properly but was already hit with the praise thrown at her by Old Madam Lin. Laughing at the over-sweetened tone, Jiang Ying Yue thanked her.
It was the same sentence Old Madam Lin would say to her every time she was all dressed up to go for an official event.
The event of the day was to attend the art gallery hosted by the Lin Corporations. Every year, an art gallery displaying amazing artistic paintings painted by outstanding and virtuous artists of the country was hosted. These were the original paintings bought by the Old Madam Lin.
Being and known for her artistic talent, exceptionally beautiful paintings were brought out in open from the personal collection of Old Madam Lin. It was organised to raise the funds for the charity and the money collected from it was given to charity after Lin Corporations double the collected amount.
It had been organised as a one-time event by Master Lin the year before he died to help the orphanages. After his death, the event was organised every year to give him a tribute by Madam Lin where Old Madam Lin contributed by giving out her paintings.
Jiang Ying Yue grew a bit tense as the car pulled into the venue. Though she had been attending these kinds of events ever since she was young but that time her attendance used to represent Jiang Family only.
Now along with Jiang Family, she was also representing the Lin Family by carrying the title of Young Madam. Her behaviour used to be very flexible when she was only known as the Young Mistress of the Jiang Family but now she had to be extremely careful with the way she interacts.
That was troublesome! For someone who used to follow her heart and preferred to go with the flow, now every step she take had to be well calculated.
When the car stopped right in front of the entrance filled with professional photographers, Old Madam Lin was the first one to come out of the car and walk to the front.
Photographers were expecting Madam Lin to be the next one to come out of the car but instead, a single black stiletto followed by a fair long slender leg and the knee partially covered with the bottom of a black dress appeared before them and then the second leg before finally, the person possessing those came out.
"It is Young Madam Lin!!" someone cried in the crowd after recognising the person.
"Woow, she is so beautiful!"
"Indeed her visuals match the Lin Family!"
"The heck! Every member of the Lin Family is so elegant and even the woman they found is ethereal!!!"
"I want to see her together with the Young Master Lin. How beautiful the sight of these together would be, right?!"
Taking a deep breath she pulled a smile on her face and hooked her arms with Old Madam Lin. Twinkling happiness was evident on Old Madam Lin's wrinkled face as she beamed contently.
Walking side by side, passing the photographers they entered the venue through the entrance followed by their bodyguards.
The art gallery was already bustling and dazzling with most of the influential artists of the country. The members of high-class families of City B were already gathered in the hall and were going through one painting to other.
A piece of slow music was going on in the background making adroit and aesthetic paintings come to the light in their full glory.
Watching Old Madam Lin enter the venue, a few of the elder ladies of influential families came to greet her.
"Jiang Ying Yue also came this time?" a sweet voice of a youthful girl sounded to their ears.
Turning towards the voice, Jiang Ying Yue was still wearing an unaffected expression but a hint of indecision appeared in her eyes; clearly she did not know who the lady was.
The lady looked nothing more than twenty-two or twenty-three as her dark black hair reached straight to her chest. The face was of a delicate girl who had just begun blooming.
Tilting her head she noticed an elder woman coming behind her whom she recognised at an instant, "Old Madam Liu."
Old Madam Liu tossed her a cold nod. It was not unknown to them that Old Madan Liu despised Jiang Ying Yue because she had always wanted to turn the years of friendship between the Liu and Lin Family into relation by making her granddaughter, Liu Xiyue, marry the First Young Master Lin.
