Sigbin

It's almost evening, sky is getting dark. Everyone in the rural area is getting ready because any moment, from 6 p.m to 3 a.m the Sigbin a creature in the Philippine mythology would come out in the forest or in the dark area where they are staying, to suck some blood of their victims from their shadows. Sigbins are out at night so that they can hide and run freely in the forest after they finished eating. Most of their victims are animals and human. This creatures are nocturnal that's why they hunt in the night to easier for them to catch victims for their meals.

It's appearance is so horrible, it walk backwards, with it's head lowered between it's hind legs, looks like a goat, it's eyes are red and has the ability to become invisible to other creatures especially human. Only the one who give them foods can saw sigbin, if the owner of the Sigbin is dead or didn't take good care of them they are the target meal in the end in short Sigbin are cannibals.

Some of the families known as Sigbinan (those who own Sigbin) whose member possess the power to command these creatures, to kill their enemies or scare the people they want. So sigbins are become their assistant they keep them as their pets also for they believed that it gives them a good luck in so many ways.

Sigbin resembles to a dog and kangaroo but has very large ears which can clap like a pair of hands and a long flexible tail that can be used as a whip. Sigbin also emit a nauseating odor. It is believed to issue forth from its lair during Holy Week, looking for children that it will kill for their hearts, which it fashions into amulets. The owner of the said amulets believed that can give them power to be more healthy, gain more strength and have the power to lived longer more than 100 years old. This amulets may pass or given to the next heir and to their next generations.

In rural area called barrio "tago" theirs a celebration called "halad" meaning offering of foods to one of their godessess, everyone in that place cook delicious foods specially raw sheep, chicken for they will offer its blood to their godessess and some delicacies then bring all of them in their plaza for party.

Night comes...

After some rituals and party they didn't know that many Sigbin is eyeing the foods for they are hungry. They smell blood of animals that are about to offer in the mini altar, the yummy foods on the table where the people are eating and drinking while dancing.

A few moments later...

Other people smell like a rotten animals, others panicked and some vomit they can't take the bad smell. Elders came and said it is the Sigbins because they eat dead animals and corpse.. by eating dead flesh or corpse maybe can cause them smell like a rotten human corpse. So everyone in the party is scared and go to the post where lights are open, for they know that those bad creatures can't go near the lights. Then the Brgy.Captain of "tago" with his Brgy. Police do the search to get the sigbins. And ordered his other troops to get their cages and long sharp woods for it is used in trapping.

They search the forest where they saw the red eyes of Sigbin. Some of them make torch and others prepared ropes for it is their weapon when the sigbins were attacking people. Only to their surprises that the sigbins are heading to a near house called haunted, it is huge and the one who owns it is Mr.J- the old man who is 103 years old, no companion, no maids, but still strong as carabao. So the Brgy.Captain believes that the rumours is true that Mr.J family is wealthy because they own sigbins and said by the elders that Mr.J's father and ancestors preserves those jars in their dark backyard to preserve the baby sigbins, they conclude that it is the old man assistants (sigbins) who go to the party. Maybe he is to busy about their business in other country that he can't take care anymore of his animals, the reason why most of his animals are going elsewhere. The last time they check Mr.J together with his lawyer, go to States to visit his family. Another conclusion came that the main reason why his family is not going to pay visit haunted house because they don't want to see and take care those bad creatures. The last maid of the said haunted house is afraid also to go back even she has a big salary that can support her entire family.

Present. An hour later...

Then captain troops came rushing and said that upon searching the house of the old man they saw many jars, sap of coconut, blood from animals and so many scattered animals are dead like chicken, pig, goat and carabao. Maybe those where the foods the old man give to the sigbins to keep his companions alive. Other brgy. Police said some other jars are tightly close and saw a carabao-like creature with eyes as red as blood sitting at the upper part of the house, some immediately ran away from the house as they all know that it is not an ordinary carabao and has a skinny body.

Then ready their self again to return in the plaza hurriedly.

When all the Brgy. Tago are complete the captain said to everyone to stay in the post until 4 a.m cause the sigbins in that hour is sleep. He said to his men to be more active, vigilant and safe as always. The captain also command every resident to report any dead animals or people before going to their houses.

Since then when their is dead animals or found a dead animals in the morning they often blame it to a sigbin. They believe that only the sigbins are the one who attacks their victims at night.
