Chapter 33

I hoped on the bus to the hospital, its gonna take a while but I should still be able to stay with my brother for at least a half hour and then catch the bus back, and still have no one notice I was gone. Its probably not necessary to sneak or anything, but I'm just not used to talking to them like they are my family and telling them where I'm going or not to worry about me if I'm home late.

Honestly I don't even know if they would worry if I wasn't there, I don't know what to expect from them.

I definitely can't say that I will be comfortable calling them my parents, mom or dad, or calling Layla sister. But I can't just keep calling my adoptive parents by there name, once the paper work goes through I'll legally be considered there daughter. But one thing keeps bothering me, why? Why did they adopt me? They already have a beautiful and smart daughter, who Is there's from natural birth. Plus Mrs. Carol looks young and healthy I'm sure she could have more kids, so why did she want me?

My had phased out and before I realized it we were at my stop, I pushed the button and then hoped off the bus once it came to a complete stop, just like the speaker said. The hospital wasn't to far of a walk from the bus stop it was just a really long way by bus. I got inside the hospital, greeted the nurses and headed into my brothers room. I immediately noticed that one of his casts was off, but it was still wrapped up. I guess the bone healed, but the burns didn't. Everything was nearly the same as when I was here last, I walked around his bed to find the nurses hadn't tended to the bouquet of flowers that was on his bed side and so they were all dead and wilted. Oh well that was ok, he would be mad if he woke up and saw girly flowers sitting next to him. Plus as long as they take care of him, I will take care of everything else in this room.

I threw out the flowers cleaned the vase and left to dry on the bathroom counter, I hurridly unboxed the lava lamp as if I didnt know what was in side. Plugged it in and turned it on, I knew it was gonna take a while to heat up so most likely I wasnt going to get to see it working until next time I came back. I sat there next to him with thoughts of home, mama cooking in the kitchen, dad out back gardening the veggies.

The sound of the secada bugs on the trees, the sun beating down and bringing with it the heat, the wind rustling through my hair even inside. Dad always loved to have all the windows and doors open during the summer, and we didnt really have to worry about robbers or anyting like that. We knew everybody and everybody knew us, they were always welcome to come in. But everybody was still polite and knocked and asked permission, of course there was always the same answer. "Come on in, we dont bite!" dad always would yell that no matter where he was in the house, if he heard a knock you heard that line.

Before long I found myself being home sick again, and tears were pouring down my face like a waterfall. "knock, knock" who is that?

"One second!" I yelled, as I hurridly wiped my tears. I'd rather not have anyone see me like that, I dont feel like being pitied by people.
