Relic Weapons

Two days had gone by in a flash.

Vine walked side by side with Anson Lucien, holding a stack of paper as they headed towards the Relic Department. Just the day before, he had handed some paperwork from the Relic Department to Thorn about letting the Marshall, Commanders and Leaders borrow some Relic weapons. The papers were already approved by the Relic Department and required Thorn's approval next.

He had already visited Thorn's office and dropped some more paperwork for the day. After retrieving the paperwork from yesterday, he was going to deliver the paperwork and retrieve some relics with Anson.

"We should've gone for this much sooner.." Anson lamented. "That way we could've even distributed some Relic weapons to the knights."

"That would've been impossible." Vine shook his head. "The Relic department only approved this much after hearing that the Union is sending backup. And there's no way they would've agreed giving low ranked knights relic weapons."

"Weren't they developing the common Relic weapons to be of use in times like these? What's the problem?" Anson asked.

"The common relic weapons were a failure." Vine explained. "Weapons in our armory which were made in the smithy were superior to them in comparison."

"Ohh.." Anson nodded. "What's with the Union anyways? They wouldn't let us evacuate the city. Wouldn't it be safer that way?" He frowned with displeasure.

"Yes, it would've been safer if we had a place to evacuate to." Vine answered. "The Union said the other countries were facing their own problems so they couldn't help us." He scoffed.

In the first letter they sent to the Union, they asked for help to evacuate the city. The Union replied by saying the population of Arcturus was too much to evacuate and Procella and Aurea were facing their own problems right now. After that, the Sacred Order thought about evacuating the citizens to other cities such as the Nightwatch City, Benehollow and Kraudonne.

But the problem with this was even if they evacuated the people to different cities, it would not be enough and the remaining people would panic. So they just decided to go on a lockdown and boost the city's defense to the maximum.

"It's alright. We will make sure the people are safe." He looked at Anson. "Won't we?"

"Yes..." Anson avoided a direct eye contact with Vine. Although Anson was a commander and ranked higher than Vine, he couldn't shake off the dangerous feeling he got from him. It was to be expected as Vine would've become a commander long ago if he hadn't been captured by the Cult of Mayhem.

As their conversation came to an end, they reached the Relic department. Opening the door, the two headed inside the building and approached Doyle who was attending the counter. Vine and Anson looked at him with weird expressions.

"Haha, Commander Anson Lucien! What a surprise you didn't come alone today, Night Leader Vine. Here for the inspection?" Doyle smiled at the two while showing off the top hat he had on.

"That too but we need to distribute these Relics to the Marshall and commanders." Vine handed him the papers. "But first..." He looked at the black top hat. "Lose the hat Doyle, you look stupid..."

The smile from Doyle's face vanished and he snatched the papers. "Ahem.." He removed his top hat and started looking at the papers while trying to act natural. "Hmm... Raucous Night, Gauntlets for Marshall Buck." He started flipping the papers while listing the Relics.

"Tenacious Thorn, lance for Commander Thorn. Haha, quite fitting.." He looked at Vine and Anson with a laugh, but quickly went back to the papers when he saw their flat expression.

"Erudition, Broadsword for Commander Anson."

"Fame and Infamy, Twin Daggers for Night Leader Vine."

"Silvers, Spear for Night Leader Lonz."

"Violet Serpent, Flamberge for Night Leader Roe."

"Severance, Single-edged sword for Night Leader Edana." He finished.

"All rare Relics, all produced in Arcturus. Alright I'll have them deliver the Relics right now. And I'll also tell them to bring the Brazier down." Doyle got up and left the counter with the paperwork.

After some time, the brazier started coming down from the ceiling for them to inspect. While they were waiting for the brazier to come down, two hooded Relic wardens arrived behind them, each holding one of their weapons. After handing them their weapons, the Relic Wardens quickly disappeared from their sights.

"They're good. Better than what I use." Thorn checked out the weapons in his hands. The twin daggers, Fame and Infamy, felt cold against his touch. The designs of the blades mirrored each other, but their color and details were different. Fame reflected light with it's clean iron blade and had majestic patterned designs carved on it. As for Infamy, the black iron blade looked like it could absorb light, and the designs carved looked rusted and demonic. Although they had contrasting difference when he looked one at a time, the blades strangely complemented each other. It felt like he was holding just one weapon and not two.

"Yeah, mine's good too." Anson looked at the broadsword on his hand with approval. The broadsword was simple yet elegant, with words which seemed to glow carved onto the blade which made it look like a page in a book.

While they were checking their weapons, Doyle and two other Relic Wardens appeared behind them. "You like them right? Ha! They're much better than those produce by the smithy." Doyle looked at the relic weapons proudly.

"They're good." Vine sheathed the daggers and looked at Doyle.

"Right? The useless smithy can't even begin to produce weapons like these!" He crossed his arms and smiled smugly.

"Useless?" Vine raised his eyebrows. "Yeah right. Then when will the Relic Department mass produce these weapons and distribute them to all the knights? "

"Uh.." Doyle's smile vanished once again. "The smithy is great! Actually I love the weapons they make there!" He scratched the back of his head and smiled shamelessly.

"That's what I thought." Vine scoffed. He then proceeded to inspect the brazier. After he was done, he nodded to the two Relic Wardens and prepared to leave.

"Then I'll see you tomorrow Doyle."

"I won't be on duty tomorrow." Doyle smirked.

"Why?"

BOOM

When Doyle opened his mouth to answer, they heard a loud bang and the city trembled.

The two Relic Wardens coughed out mouthfuls of blood and died on the spot.

"What's happening?" Vine collected himself and looked at the Brazier.

The bright flame which was flickering on the Brazier a second ago was already extinguished.
