Relic Department

After talking for some time, all three of them, Thorn, Vine and Edana, went back to their works.

Thorn kept on working on the paperworks with the help of Edana. Looking at the heaps of paper on Thorn's desk, he decided to ask Edana for some help and she agreed as she had completed her most important tasks for the day which was making sure the knights were doing their job properly and taking care of problems that arose due to the lockdown.

As for Vine, he went back to do his job which was to make sure the Relic, Everburning Brazier, was functioning properly. He was also the one who dealt with international dealings such as merchantry and the likes. As the city was in lockdown right now, he had to deal with the complaints of merchants from the other two countries in the continent and other cities.

"Haah..." He released a long sigh before walking out of the office building. After exiting, he swiftly walked towards the relics department. The building of the relics department was strangely designed. From the outside, it looked like a huge tree stump. Looking up, Vine couldn't even see the top of the building properly.

After opening the wooden door of the building and stepping inside, Vine was just as surprised as he was the first time. The walls were made entirely of iron, and it seemed like he stepped foot into the future. The inside of the building was divided into many levels, with each levels having many rooms. But the center was hollow, blocked off by cylindrical glass all the way up to the ceiling.

Inside the rooms there were Relic Researchers and Relic Engineers, making new relics and examining ones they have uncovered. As for the truly powerful relics they had, no one knew where they stored them.

Vine approached the circular table which encircled the glass pipe at the center. On the desk, something was shining brightly, which hurt Vine's eyes. Approaching the shiny object, Vine slapped it with his hand.

"Huh?" The shining object lifted up and a drooling face hiding underneath was uncovered. "Night Leader Vine, here for the daily examination..." The person spoke lazily.

"Sure Doyle. Sleeping on the job again?" Vine smiled. Doyle was a Relic Engineer from the department. He was one of the top academic cadets from his time, when his hair was still flowing beautifully. But after he joined the Relics Department, the stress and all the work made him lose all of his hair in a mere three years.

Wiping his drool with his clothe, he stared at Vine. "Night Leader Vine, please don't slap me on my beautiful head while I'm sleeping. I forgot what I was dreaming about.."

"Haha, it's okay to forget dreams sometimes. Also, if you don't want to get slapped on the head, don't sleep during work." Vine responded.

"Hah." Doyle scoffed. "My dreams are very important. I often see solutions to the Relic we are workin on in my dreams. So you could say I'm working even when I'm sleeping." Doyle crossed his arms and looked proud of himself.

A vein popped on Vine's forehead when he looked at Doyle's smug face. He couldn't control himself and hit him on the head with his fist this time. "You have an answer to everything don't you? Now go up there and send the brazier down."

Massaging the newly formed red bump on his head, Doyle stared at Vine. "Go up?" After he was done massaging, Doyle pulled out a shell from under his desk. "I don't need to go up anymore." He looked at Vine proudly.

"What's that?" Vine looked curiously at the shell on Doyle's hand.

"It's a Relic we've been working on for communication." He explained. "With two of these Relics, we can communicate even if we are far away!" He puffed his chest. "We're calling it a Shelly Phone! Shelly because it's made from a shell and Phone as we can communicate using our voices!"

"What a stupid name..." Vine commented. "But looks interesting enough. Why don't you show me how it works."

Scoffing at Vine's remark, Doyle brought the shell up to his mouth and tapped it twice. "Can you guys send the brazier down? Send the brazier down. Reply if you heard me!" He happily talked into the shell with a smile on his face.

After ten seconds, the smile turned into an angry frown. "Why aren't you guys replying?" After thirty seconds, he was confused. "Can you hear me?" Finally, after a minute his face was filled with sadness. He looked up at Vine. "Haha, it's not working right now. We still have a lot of work left to do on it..." He scratched the back of his bald head.

With another hit from Vine, Doyle finally headed up the building. After some time, the ceiling inside the glass pipe began to lower down slowly. Waiting for a moment, the piece of ceiling finally reached the ground, with the brazier on top of it.

At the same time it reached the ground, Doyle also appeared behind Thorn with two other people, who were the Relic Wardens. Their job was to safeguard the relics and use them in cases such as this. "As you can see, the brazier is working perfectly. According to the requests, we've even added another amplification to the relic." Doyle reported.

Nodding his head, Vine approached the brazier and made sure nothing was amiss. "You all are doing a fine job." He looked at Doyle and the other two. "Keep it up.." He nodded at them and finally left the building.

"Haah..." Doyle sighed. "Alright keep at it guys!" He looked at the two relic wardens behind him, after which they did some hand signs and the brazier began going up again. Along with the brazier, the two also headed up again.

Doyle went behind the circular counter once again and sat down on his chair. "Time to sleep again..." He laid down his head on the desk just like before, but the only thing that was different was there were two red bumps on his bald head now.
