UNHAPPY SARAH

"No wait..what is your name first, I am Ulanni.." Ulanni chipped in.

"You can call me Flint." she replied.

"Okay, you can go on now.." Ulanni said, nodding her head with a big smile on her face and stretching out her injured leg.

Flint let out a chuckle as she moved forward to begin examining Ulanni's wound.

Looking closely at the wound now with dried blood patches on it. Flint moved to first remove the small splinters of wood that were stuck in the wound.

Removing them and not hearing any sound of pain coming from Ulanni, she looked up at her.

Ulanni had a big smile on her face with her eyes trained on what Flint was doing without crying like she couldn't feel any pain. It felt so surreal that Flint had to ask her. "Are you okay?.."

Ulanni blinked her eyes as though coming back to the present. "Me..sure I'm okay.." Ulanni answered with her eyes wide open.

Just then the shuffling of feet could be heard followed by Sarah's complaining voice. "You could have just told me how bad you didn't like me instead of sending me there…look at my body!.." The two girls both turned to face Sarah.

"Sarah..! What happened to you?" Ulanni inquired worriedly.

"You should ask her.." Sarah said, jutting her chin at Flint.

"But..she didn't do anything, she has been here with me the whole time you were gone.." Ulanni said, sounding defensive.

"Ah.. are you standing up for her now?.. I left you two alone for what…two minutes and she had brainwashed you already!.." Sarah said with wide eyes looking stunted.

"It's not like that Sarah...Flint and I are now friends.." Ulanni said smiling with her hand holding into Flint.

"Friends….!!" Sarah screamed, sounding angry. "You can't be friends with Flint, she is rude, proud, and..and not someone you should be making friends with.." Sarah rambled trying to find the perfect word to explain the situation to Ulanni.

Flint, seeing as the whole thing would end up in an argument, quickly injected. "Now is not the time to argue..we have more pressing matters.."

"Pressing matters?.. you are just trying to boss us around" Sarah said pointing at Flint.

"No am not..what makes you think those people who were after us have given up the search..we should clean up Ulanni's injury and head back to the sleeping quarter.." Flint replied calmly.

Her words finally brought Sarah back to her senses. Sarah looked at Flint with hesitation in her eyes and gave a final glance at Ulanni who had her eyes down.

Sarah dropped the leave she had managed to cut at the price of her skin being bitten by the mosquitos that had been there.

Walking some steps from where Ulanni and Flint were seated, she plopped down on the ground.

"Sarah…_"Ulanni tried calling out to her but got no response but silence and a hurt look passed her eyes before she looked down to continue staring at her hands which were folded in her lap.

Flint let out a sigh, picking up the leave and moving to the stream, she bent the leave at the sides to form a makeshift bowl.

Deeping it in the stream and cupping some water she made her way back to where Ulanni was and slowly started washing off the dried blood and dirt from Ulanni's injury.

Not long after Flint was done cleaning up Ulanni's injury, she got up and began cleaning up the things she had used and also disposing of the leaf.

Flint stood up and looked around them making sure there was no evidence of what just happened here was left behind.

Nodding as she saw none, Flint turned to the direction Sarah was seated in and called out to her. "We should start leaving…"

Receiving no reply from her she turned to Ulanni and helped her up, she could spot some droplets of tears in her eyes but she said nothing about it.

Ulanni readily got up with Flint's help and it seemed like she had some strength in her after resting for some time.

Hooking Ulanni's shoulders on hers, Flint began to move in the direction of the bridge but Ulanni wasn't moving with her.

Pausing and looking at Ulanni wondering what she was waiting for.

"Sarah…it's time for us to go.." Ulanni said again, calling out to Sarah.

Ulanni let out a small smile when she saw Sarah standing up and dusting the back of her gown.

"You didn't have to tell her..she would have come on her own.." Flint said strictly.

"Flint ..you have to be nice to Sarah.." Ulanni said in a soft voice while turning to face Flint.

Flint looked at her and wanted to argue that she wasn't acting rude to Sarah, but she decided against that and held her tongue.

Looking up to see Sarah staring at her with a small smile on her lips, Flint was going to point it out when she stopped. Sarah was doing it to get a raise out of her.

So instead Flint threw a smile her way and proceeded to help Ulanni walk. The three of them both made their way over the bridge and headed for the sleeping quarter in the distance.

Getting to the entrance of the sleeping quarter Flint whispered to them "Try being very quiet, we don't want to wake anyone up.."

Ulanni nodded at her words and they proceeded to make their way in. Going through the door, and pushing open the curtain they both walked in happy as nobody was awake and were all asleep by now.

Flint passed her bed and kept going forward, on getting to the bed she had noticed Ulanni slept on most nights which was now empty, she carefully helped her to sit on the bed and adjusted her legs to be stretched on the bed.

"Thank you, Flint.." Ulanni said in a small voice.

"Go to sleep, Ulanni, you need it…" Flint said as she softly pushed Ulanni to lie on the bed. She then turned to face Sarah.

"You should also try to get some sleep.." Saying that she stood up and made her way to her own bed.
