Flint sat down on her bed ever so calmly, and it didn't help that her bed was almost close to where Mother was standing, so she was easily noticed.
"You!!" Came Mother's thundering voice. "It seems you have forgotten your place... you are beneath me, you dog !!"
Right now Mother sounded wild and also looked the part, her usually neat and bonded hair was now all over the place with her face and eyes so red, that it was frightening.
"No, I am not beneath you nor is anyone else in this room, and we don't take orders from you anymore Mother!" Flint said the last part with so much hatred that the children began to wonder if they had been some discord between the two that no one knew about.
Mother began to surge forward to where Flint was seated but was instantly thrown backward, she slammed into the wall behind her and smashed through it, before skitting and landing a few feet away groaning in pain.
"As expected Flint!" Black who appeared from nowhere and blasted Mother back from getting to Flint applauded. "From now on, you answer to me, students!!"
"Yes Black" They all chorused.
"Now follow me" Sage said as she made her way out with the children readily trailing behind her, it seemed like they realized who was stronger and they would happily follow the strongest one.
Flint was a little late in standing up so now she was pushed away from Sage by the people scurrying to follow Sage but made sure they kept a respectful distance from her.
Sage paused making all the children behind her come to a halt. "Flint you should know your place...you are leader over them?" Sage said without turning back to look at Flint.
"Yes, Black." Responding and making her way quickly to where Sage was standing, and halting two steps behind her.
Sage nodded and continued on her way out of the room.
"Sage!!..., you cannot come into my compound and humiliate me... I was giving this compound to rule and you cannot just come here and walk around like you own the grounds!" Came Mother's enraged voice, who was still sitting on the ground in an awkward position.
It looked like she couldn't pick herself up from the ground and opted to use her hands behind her body to support her weight, which made her look like she was relaxing in pain.
"So students keep moving!" Came Sage's voice ignoring Mother's words and her very existence, and urged the children to keep moving forward leaving a battered and enraged Clara behind.
"Just you wait and see.. keep acting all high and mighty, I would wait patiently to see the day you fall you wrench!" Clara said with venom dripping from her every pore.
Trying to get up again, but failing she listened to hear the sound of feet passing by, so she could call them to help her up, but after walking for a while and hearing nothing, she kept hitting the floor in anger leaving small dents in the polished floor.
"As I said earlier we would be embarking on our journey by daybreak, I would have said to pack up your things but it seems you all have nothing with you so we would be making a stop at the laundry room for some clothes for you all"
Sage said as she led them through an open space then into a corridor, already spotting the laundry room as she had checked every nook and cranny of the compound and knew everywhere by heart.
Stopping in front of the laundry room, she faced the crowd. "Now I would be doing a head count of you all as you head into the laundry room, wait at the corner when you get in" Sage commanded.
And the children without wasting time all replied. "Yes, Black!!"
Sage nodded in approval and glanced at Flint who now stood in front of the crowd with her hands behind her back. "Now shuffle up into a single file!" Sage said while clapping her hands.
She watched as the children smoothly moved into a straight line, which was kind of amusing to watch.
"At least they picked up something from this shit hole" Sage thought.
"Flint take a head count" Saying this she stalked away leaving the children looking at her back wondering where she was headed.
"Now start moving in" Flint's voice sounded bringing their attention back to her.
The children started walking in one after the other while Flint did a head count. "Fifty-five, fifty-six,....."
It took quite some time but she finally counted the last head Two hundred and seven.
Flint was the last person still left outside, as she didn't know what to do next. "What would Black expect me to do now...I should pr..."
"So how many are they all including you?" Sage's voice came from behind, shocking Flint out of her thoughts.
She was quick to school her features. "Two hundred and eight Black" Flint answered dutifully.
"Go in and join them" Sage commanded
"Yes Black" Flint replied and made her way into the laundry room where the other children were.
