Memory Loss

Jenny was staring at the newcomers and they were staring at her. Jenny was on the ground, unable to get up due to the unfamiliarity of the body as well the tiredness from the earlier ruckus. She just looked blankly at them, but her eyes were cautious.

"Get on the bed. Now." The woman spoke faintly this time, but no one dared to even have doubts to reject her. The maids hurriedly tried to pull Jenny onto the bed. Jenny cooperated and with their help was finally on the bed. All the time, her eyes were on the woman.

"Check her." Another order was issued as soon as the first one was completed. The old man went to the bed and put his fingers on Jenny's wrist. He contemplated for a while and checked the energy flow. Then he frowned and smiled.

"Empress, the Princess' body is fine. As I diagnosed earlier, there are no problems. However, I cannot check the brain and the soul. Please forgive me, but this is unprecedented as the Qi deviation may have harmed the brain. I will have to observe for some time. From the looks of it, it is memory loss." The old man did not conceal anything as he spoke.

Hearing this, the woman frowned and looked at the girl on the bed with some strange emotions in her eyes. She was a bit sad but there was also some joy. She sighed and then asked, "How do you feel?"

"Who are you and who am I? How are we related? Where is this place?" Jenny asked. She totally agreed with the old man's diagnosis. She felt that her body was very weak and probably ill. And since she knew nothing about this place, memory loss is the best thing that can be diagnosed.

"I am your mother. You will know about the rest later. For the time being, you will rest here and take care of your body. It should take 6 months. In that time, the maids here will serve you and you can ask them about everything later." She spoke and then left.

Jenny was confused, 'was this how a mother would treat her daughter?' But she did not know that once the woman went out of the room, a tear trickled down her eyes. If anyone had seen this scene, they would have been shocked to the core. The woman stumbled for a bit and then as if she came to a decision, she straightened up and went to find someone.

Inside the room, Jenny was given some tonic and water and then she soon fell asleep. The old man looked at her and sighed and then left after giving some instructions about taking care of Jenny and then left. The maids sat back down in the position to keep watch and fan the Princess.

A few hours later…

Jenny woke up. She was still not used to this place. And now she was starting to focus a bit more. She figured that she died in the previous world and must have migrated to this place. She took a few deep breaths and calmed down after coming to that scary conclusion.

She did some basic hand, neck and finger exercises to come to understand her body. While doing this, she found that she was very weak in this body. Also, she found that the air here was so much thicker and filled with tremendous energy than in her previous world. She did not talk much and just contemplated.

The maids were watching her and did not do anything. They had their instructions and they would follow them. After an hour or so, one of the maids went out and brought back some food and water for the Princess.

"Princess, please eat the food. It was specially made for you. You will need this to have the energy for now and to increase the effectiveness of the medicine."

"Okay. That woman," Jenny spoke and paused for a bit as if considering, "my Mother, said to ask you any questions I had."

"Yes, Princess, to the best of our abilities we will answer all your questions." A maid replied. Jenny was a bit amused as they replied in similar tones and it was uncanny how only one answered and both did not. Usually, people would look at each other to see who was going to answer or both would make a sound and one of them would concede after that. But these maids did not do that.

"I will eat and ask the questions. Do you not want to eat?" Jenny asked.

"We do not require food. Energy from the heaven and earth is enough to sustain us for a month. We eat only once in a month, during the new moon time, when the 'heaven and earth' energy gets converted to 'dark and yin' energy. Ah, I will explain later. Eat first, Princess."

Jenny quietly started having her food. Although it was tasteless, it was full of energy and she could not make out what it was made of. She silently finished her food without a fuss nor being cautious that it would be poisoned. She knew that if they wanted to harm her, it would be as easy killing an ant.
