Cev sets off for the city library, after all he would need access to as many resources as possible if he wanted to self-study and catch up with others his age.
He arrives and is left awestruck by the many rows of bookshelves that are many times his height with ladders mixed in throughout the skinny hallways.
Cev sees what seems to be a librarian and asks in a slightly silenced voice, ["Where might the textbooks be?"]
The librarian slightly chuckles and says, " They're on the second story along the south wall. I wish you luck, there aren't many as young as you who come to the library for educational purposes. Most of the books on that wall are college level at the least."
'College level... I bet I can handle those if I make sure to really focus on learning the material. After all when I look at the stuff in my sisters books I don't have even a bit of problem interpreting it and engraining it into my memory.' Cev seemingly arrogant thought to himself.
Although it may have seemed as if Cev was being arrogant, he absolutely was not. Cev is a genius through and through, he has a photographic memory and is able to easily process and understand any level of text without trouble.
After choosing what seemed to be freshman level medical texts that he had seen his sister reading from. He checked out the books from the library and made his way back home.
*******
Once Cev arrived back at his house, he set his books on the desk that he had in his room. The titles consisted of:
"Anatomy"
"General Surgery"
"Emergency Medicine"
"Medical Terminology"
speaking to himself Cev said, ["I guess I'll start with anatomy"]
Reading at speeds that only a scholar could read at and forging his mind to what each book had to offer, Cev finished completely reading and comprehending all the books that he had read in less than a day.
'Maybe I am smarter than I thought, no wonder my brain wanted me to feed it info. I could change the world with this big head.'
Cev's sister arrived home at 5:12 PM: "Cev!" Mya shouted at the top of her voice implying that he should come down from his room because she needed to talk to him.
Cev then slowly came into sight as he walked down the steep stairway, as he walked towards his mature older sister he asked in a friendly voice, ["how'd school go for you today?"] Then flashed a smile that only befitted a little boy appeared on Cevs face.
Mya astonished by Cev's attitude towards her changing so drastically thought, 'Has this little boy been possessed by some evil spirit attempting to make its way into our home?'
Then Mya quickly recalled the conversation that transpired that morning. Once she had recalled that in a fraction of a second, his attitude made complete sense.
Mya returned to Cev what she had recieved and in a fruity and cheery voice she recommended, "We should go out to eat tonight. Mom and Dad are taking a night off together for once, and I just get my paycheck today."
Although it was innocent, Mya did have an ulterior motive. Which unknowingly of Cevs genius and that Cev had already started his self-studies, was to set up a curriculum for Ceville.
["Yes I would enjoy that sis! What sort of place were you thinking?"]
"There's a new diner down the street, so I was hoping we might be able to get some brinner (Breakfast + Dinner)."
["Ok, lets go then!"]
*******
["I would like a ham and cheese omelet with raisin bread."]
"I want the same thing as he had, except add peppers to my omelet."
"Alright Cev, lets get down to buisness about this self-study stuff."
["Huh?"] Cev looked back at Mya with a blank expression. Then after realizing the situation that he was in he quickly responded with, ["I've already started my self studies, I went to the library today and picked out some books to start with.""]
"oh?" Mya surprised but somewhat excited to figure out what kind of books her little brother picked out to start with. She didn't expect anything super advanced, maybe at the best lower level high school books.
Up until this point, Cev had been deceiving his family to make them all believe that he wasn't capable of attending school due to not being able to keep up with the other students. Though his sister could at least read through his act a little bit, she couldn't truly believe the true extent of his mental capabilities would be that of a genius.
"What kind of books did you pick out little bro?"
Cev without thinking and seemingly ecstatic said:
["Well I started off by looking at th..."]
In this crucial moment Cev realized that if he were to reveal his full capabilities to his sister than a lot of questioning and even potential jealousy would come his way. Even if his sister agreed to keep it a secret, it would still completely change her view of her little brother.
'I don't think my sister should know the truth. Since my education only went up to 5th grade currently, I'll tell her I got books on the 8th grade level for now.'
Cev before finishing his sentence retracted his words as if he caught himself in the process of telling his sister something that he didn't want her to know. Mya wasn't socially oblivious enough to miss out on that truth.
"Cev? What were you about to say?"
Then in a quiter more shy seeming voice Cev told her, ["I got books that are the normal level for an 8th grader."]
"Um... Cev, I think that you should go maybe back a year in level. you didn't even make it to sixth grade" Mya said in a apologetic voice.
'I understand why he retracted so quickly now. He is totally embarrassed of all the time that he had missed from school up until now and wants to catch up quickly so he's pushing himself harder than he needs to.'
Mya had convinced herself of almost the complete opposite of the reality of the situation.
In a confident and seemingly understanding voice Mya said, "Cev, I don't want you to push yourself too hard and lose your confidence. It's my job as your big sister to help guide you through your problems and I really want you to succeed with this. That also means that I cannot let you get overconfident and try learning something that you don't have the skills nor experience to understand yet. Learning isn't something that you can just skin through, especially with the maths and sciences that require repeated practice."
'You know, she may be miles away from the real target, however what she is saying is something that I could definitely apply to my advanced studies. I need to make sure that I thoroughly learn everything that I need to and not cut corners, especially if I am going to travel down the path of medicine that I have already created a pilot hole for.'
["You're quite wise sis, I think you're right."]
["Lets start from where I left off in fifth grade!"]
Cev knew for certain that he could learn the middle school level texts that his sister picked out for him in less than 5 minutes per assigned lesson. Therefore his plan was to switch the covers on the books and when his sister came in to check on him he wouldn't arouse any suspicion. Using this method he could read college level texts where his level was at and would soon surpass while hiding his immortal level intelligence.
*****6 months later*****
Before Cev had even started his 'method', he had realized how incredible difficult and inefficient unbinding and rebinding each book cover would be. In turn he made up the excuse that he didn't want to damage the books, therefore he should use book covers, and he could organize the books based on color which he claimed would make it easier for him to organize.
After six months Cev had been secretly been visiting the library to exchange his books every other day. He typically returned and checked out 8-9 books every visit to the library. the librarians thought he was a crazy. They had started rumors that as soon as he got home and opened a book he gave up before he could even read the TOC.
However, Cev ran into a huge issue...
["THERE ARE NO MORE TEXTBOOKS IN THE LIBRARY?!?!"]
The librarian snickered to herself, then responded to Cevilles aggressive inquiry "Sir, if you would like access to more medical textbooks than you will have to visit the regional library. Or if you had extra cash than you could purchase many textbooks from online bookstores or from websites that allow you to view/purchase textbooks online. However, there are many textbooks that in this library that aren't related t.....*Sigh*"
'So I need money....'
Cev had completely zoned out from earth and was staring at the floor deeply in thought rather than letting the librarian finish her recommendation. She had realized that it was a waste of breath to continue and stopped talking.
However, what Cev didn't realize, is that the day before his sister had attempted to surprise Cev.
Mya wanted to celebrate Cev reaching his goal of getting to an 8th grade level and surprise him with brand new books. This would require her to change out the books that Cev had been storing on his shelf herself for the first time. Of course it was worth it to surprise him though... Right...?
As Mya takes the books down from the shelves she fantasizes about how happy her little brother would be when it finally hits him that he reached his goal.
{"...huh?!...What the hell is happening here?!?!"}
- What Mya had seen before her eyes were not the innocent middle school level books that her little brother Ceville was meant to be reading from.
"Encyclopedia of Intensive care Medicine"
"Galaxius's Theoretical Textbook of Neurosurgery"
" Advanced Urologic Surgery"
"Full textbook of modern Neoplasm"
What Mya saw was books that she were too advanced for even an average doctor to understand, and she had seen her fifteen year old brother reading them daily.
However the first thought that rushed through her head wasn't that he was actually a supergenius that had at this point in time already invented many world shattering medical theories and potential discoveries that could be found on the journal sitting less than ten feet away from her.
Rather.....
'That little boy has gotten way too big for his britches. What on earth is he thinking getting texts that could only be understood by the nations top doctors.'
Mya had convinced herself that her brothers ego would be crushed if she didn't step in quickly. Therefore she made the quick decision to keep his ego in check without crushing it by allowing him to skip the 8th grade materials and letting him go on to freshman year material and see how he fares after scolding him about this.
What had once been a celebration dinner would now shatter Mya's entire perspective on her brother.
Door unlocks... then creaks open as Cev walks through with an empty paper bag that once held advanced medical texts.*
"Cev, where the hell did you go today?" said Mya in a stern tone and with a slightly crunched forehead.
Cev quickly hides the paper back behind his back*
["Uhm.... I was just dropping something off that I borrowed."] Cev said in a very panicked tone.
"What might you have been returning today my brother who has just barely finished a seventh grade level education?"
["books..."]
"First off: you know that you aren't supposed to leave the house alone ever without notifying either me, Mom, or Dad!!!
Second off: What on this damned earth made you think that you were capable of reading medical texts at your level at all, not to mention ones that complex!!! I probably still won't be able to full interpret those if I continued studying medicine for the next twenty-five years straight. Don't you remember what I told you about your ego when we started this whole thing six months ago!?"
["Yes, I do sister"]
"I was going to take you to lunch today to celebrate you reaching your goal of graduating to 8th grade level education, however, the lunch is no longer going to be about celebration. We're going to talk about the future of your education, right now!"
Normally Mya would've punished him by just getting rid of the lunch plans all together, however she hadn't eaten all day and was actually quite hungry for some sit-down food.
******
Sitting inside a booth at a cafe sat Cev and Mya*
"Cev, I'm incredibly proud of you, I mean you have far surpassed anything that I could've imagined when we started this self-studying endeavor. You've finished two years worth of school work in only five and a half months. That's very very impressive. But you cannot let yourself get a massive ego just because you're smarter than the average boy at your age. I really do believe that if you keep up with the track you're currently going down that you'll find great success in life and you'll have many different paths you can go down. Heck! Someday you might actually find that you're able to read these and interpret them well, and in that sense I believe you have me beat. You're potential is huge, however it isn't limitless and at the end of the day you're still human, kid."
["Mya...I lied"]
"?"
"About the books?"
["no"]
"then what on earth did you lie about?!"
["I've never been average, or stupid by any means. I've never been on the same level as the curriculum that you've been giving to me. All of these months all I've been doing is spending <5 minutes finishing each assignment that you give me then moving on to medical texts. The truth is, I've now read and memorized every single text college level above in our city library sister."]< p>
"hahaha, you're quite funny kid, but that would take years even for a genius to do that. I think the time scaling in your joke is a little off."
["I'm not joking Mya, I really am sorry as well. I just didn't want to create a ruckus in the world with my intelligence at the center. If you really don't believe me about my mental state, then you can test me with the limited medical knowledge that you have from your year of studying medicine already."]
Instantly realizing how serious Ceville was Mya began to search her through her brain for the hardest medical questions that she could think of, some consisted of questions that couldn't be answered by an entire class of college students after months of shooting.
Then after about thirty seconds of gathering her mental list she began inquiring on Cevilles medical knowledge.
30 minutes of Mya questioning Cev about medicine later*
"HOW THE HELL!!"
["I really do feel sorry and regretful for deceiving you for so long."]
["Despite that sister, I do have only one request before you scold me. I wish that the knowledge of me be kept secret from everyone but you and me. You see, I clearly am not matured enough to make my own decisions, because without the prompting from you I certainly would've continued heartlessly deceiving you who were doing so much for me. Which is why I would like to wait a few years for me to grow as a person and cultivate better decision making before I expose myself to the intense world of medicine."]
Letting out a large sigh, Mya said calmly, "Cev, I'm not going to scold you, because clearly you already understand. I also believe that you are completely correct about the fact that we should probably keep your insane mental capacity top secret. However, I believe that the correct course of action would be to send you to a proper high school, not because it would fit your intelligence level in the slightest. But because I believe that it will match your desires to cultivate good decision making, and you can continue to expand you knowledge at home."
["ok, I'll trust you."]
Mya became very flustered at this statement...
["Also, I can pay for all of the medical texts that I need to purchase. I have been saving and investing in stocks and online gambling for years and years. Despite that, I have never had to tap into my savings due to Mom and Dad maintaining a stable income. Therefore after about six years of this, I've built up a very healthy sum of money that I can invest into this subject."]
"how healthy are we talking here?!"
Ceville whispered into Mya's ear, ["About...$130 million"].
