He fell on his bottom and faced Ellen, who was Artemis. He swallowed his saliva as he tried to hold in his tears of fear. At this point, he had forgotten that he even had super strength as a superpower.
"Watching you almost pee is weird because god slayers are not supposed to be scared when it comes to facing my kind." Ellen walked towards him and offered her hand to help him up.
"I don't have answers for everything Ron, but I can tell you everything I know. Maybe then you will realize that we are not the bad guys."
Something about her was different. This wasn't the feeling he had when he was leaving the infirmary with Nathan the feeling had then was repulsive and frightening at the same. The feeling he had now as he faced Ellen was that he was safe.
He looked up to her and accepted her hand. She pulled him up and said, "It's time you know the truth about the god slayers before they tell you their version of this story."
"As I told you before, my name is Ellen Starhold and I am a god slayer from Midgard, my father is a noble wizard my mother is from Vanaheim and she is a Vanir." she began. "I found out I was a god slayer about a year ago and after I discovered powers, I started having dreams that looked like memories, memories of gods like Zeus, Hera, Hades, memories of places like Olympus, and memories of my death at the hands of the god slayers. I found out that I am a reincarnation of a Greek goddess named Artemis. The memories helped me find what remained of Apollo who explained everything to me."
"The god slayers went on a massacre and slaughtered of the Greek gods along with the Viking and Egyptian gods whether good or bad they killed our kind until it was just left a few of the Aesir gods from Valhalla who survived after begging for their lives, but they were banished to Musphelheim and were forced to face the Surtr who am sure no Aesir god could survive," she concluded.
"Okay, then how do I come into this? And who the hell is Surtr and what is an Aesir god and where is this Musophilium…place?"
That's when Ellen realized that this was going to be harder than she expected, not only was she explaining to a human. She was explaining to a not very smart human. He had no knowledge concerning the god world.
"Well, the Aesir gods are the main gods of Asgard. But as we speak most of them are dead, only Loki and Thor are alive to date I think..." she said
"Musphelheim is the realm of fire…think of it as hell and Surtr is the giant that rules that place." she continued.
Ron nodded like he understood everything she had just said. "Then how am I involved in this," he asked,
"Well, I think you are like me, a god who has been reincarnated as a god slayer," Ellen answered.
Ron stared at her then broke into a laugh, "So am a god now, real funny universe. Who am I? Zeus, or maybe Odin, perhaps Raa." he made funny gestures by moving and shaking his hands in the air as he yelled.
"I think you're Odin," she said.
"Really, what makes you think that Artemis."
"Because of the prophecy the light elf told me about." she looked straight into his eyes with a serious look.
"The prophecy that says the world tree will revive one of the three brothers it could be Villi, Ve or Odin himself as a gift for the gods and the realms, but a curse for the god who has been revived," Ellen said.
Ron could immediately tell that she wasn't joking, was he Odin the god-king from the comic books, Ron felt his world spin right before his eyes, he could feel his throat dry up as he looked directly at Ellen. Was he a reincarnation of a god?
"And since you know that now you must know I need your help to save the world tree Yggdrasil, for the past centuries the tree has been losing its leaves and wilting. Someone or something is draining the life out of its roots."
"If the world tree dies all the realms will end…"
"Like Ragnarok. . ." Ron muttered
"This won't be like Ragnarok. Ragnarok is the end of the gods, this will be worse. . .the end of the realms and existence as we may know it. I leave Midgard in three days" she said
"Three days! And you want me to come with you. . . I need…I need time to process all of this, you can't just tell me the world is about the end on my second day as a god slayer." Ron complained as he scratched his head from confusion,
"TIME…we don't have Ron Carter. You must come with me before the Midgard Serpent returns."
He stopped the head-scratching once he heard "Midgard serpent"
"What if I don't want to come with you."
Then you will fail the nine realms that you sacrificed to save yourself centuries ago." Ellen said that statement was going direct to Odin if he was the one.
"I need to think about this. . ."
"Fine, you have till Monday to think, but you should know that we are the same you and I don't have an idea of what we truly are. We should at least look for answers as we save the world not wait for them to come to us as the world burns."
Ellen sighed.
"Anyway, when you are done thinking, let me know so that I give you the plan or ask the light elf to tamper with your memory again."
"Wait, again? You had planted the wolf memories in my head, you thought it would work."
"Yes, but it didn't which makes me have more faith in my theory of you being a god."
But the light elf…I mean Cassie said that am human and god slayer
"So am I."
Ron hadn't realized how long it had been until he noticed the night sky. When he turned to say something to Ellen she was already gone. It was like she had just vanished with the huge wolf.
He also turned to the bushes, and after struggling through he suddenly felt a pull that dragged him and made him appear right in front of the dorm entrance.
Later that night. Ron couldn't stop thinking about what Ellen had told him the world ending, him being possibly being Odin, and him being part of a prophecy by Light elves it all felt like it was moving too fast, the excitement he had days ago was now dead in just twenty-four hours.
Ron held his necklace as he thought about all this. The necklace was just his dad's wedding ring with a chain through it that he tied on his neck. His father's ring was the last thing his father gave him before he died.
Ron never talked about his father's death because he was there and no one could believe what he saw. The truth is his father was killed along with the people who had come to the carnival that day.
Raymond Carter was a scientist who dealt in the energy science department. When Ron had just turned six, Raymond chose to take his son out to the carnival that very day. Only to be attacked by real giants during the carnival, Ron couldn't remember what they looked like, but he could remember the fear he had when he saw one stomp on a woman and killing her instantly, he remembered his father carrying him and putting the wedding in his hands before throwing him into a pool.
The giant that was after them found his father and slapped him with so much force that it killed him instantly. All of that happened on his birthday. The police came and reported him as the only survivor, he tried to explain what had happened but no one would believe a giant story especially when it's coming from the mouth of a six-year-old.
His mom had to quit her job as a lawyer to take care of him, e was taken to therapy and after a while, he was made to believe that he saw was just a result of fear. The massacre that happened that day was reported as a terrorist attack to the public and the case was closed.
Now here he was remembering that day. He wasn't imagining the giants. It was all real. What if the giants appeared that day because of what he maybe be. All these questions could only be answered if he followed Ellen on this quest to save the world tree.
"What do you think dad?" he asked while running his fingers on the ring's surface as he faced the dark ceiling of the bedroom. Suddenly, there was a strange glow from the ring, he quickly took off the necklace. To get a better look at it.
A yellow-golden light was emitting from it as words wrote themselves from inside. Ron moved the ring closer and narrowed his eyes to see what the words were saying.
The words read, "made in Svartalfheim" in old Norse. Wait, he could read Old Norse.
