A proud coward

Khonshu had transported them to the highway that was leaving Mayfield meaning it was easier for them to get to Ron's house. They boarded a cab that dropped them off on St. Harvey street. Where his house was. A fine nice flat, painted blue to look different from the rest of the St. Harvey neighborhood. This was the quietest part of the entire town, nothing interesting happened here apart from that one time when one of its residents Miss Patricia, a sixty-year-old Austrian woman claimed she had seen a vampire in the middle of the street feeding on her cat she had named Miss Puff, but all that was just an effect of her taking her medicine wrongly.

The cab stopped right in front of his yard. Ron ran out of the car to the front door. The first thing he noticed was that it was slightly open. The way he knew his mom, she wouldn't make such mistakes.

He pushed the door open and his eyes widened from dread after seeing the mess in the house the ceiling lights were ruined and were flickering on and off. And the ceiling itself looked like something had broken through it, more proof for him to believe that it was a giant.

"She welcomed someone in, a man, a friend," Nathan said after touching the scratches on the door.

"How did you?…"

"I told you most of us god slayers have esper abilities and this is mine, mindsight, that's what they call it, it allows me to see what happened and how it did," Nathan said,

Ron looked around and noticed the dining table had been flipped over there was a fight between whatever had come for her and someone else it couldn't be just her, she had never been the kind of person who would see violence as an option.

"Did she fight with anyone?" he asked Nathan,

"No, there was a struggle at first with the man, but someone ran in and tried to fight the man by himself using that," Nathan pointed at a baseball bat that was on the wrecked floor.

Ellen walked in after paying the cab driver,

They heard a loud thudding coming from upstairs, and Nathan responded by pulling out his Altaen crystal and then squeezing it in his fist.

Ron was the first to up climb the stairs with Nathan behind him. Ellen drew out her bow this time with a regular set of arrows. She remained down and stayed on high alert just in case whatever that was up tried to come down.

The further they moved the louder the thudding got along with some faint growling. Coming from his room. They reached the first floor and Ron ended up accidentally stepping on a squeaky piece of loose wood,

~the thudding suddenly stopped, Ron prayed it didn't have any super hearing of any sort. He waited for a few seconds, but nothing came out.

He sighed with relief after seeing nothing but suddenly something grabbed him and tossed him across the corridor, like some piece of paper. He pushed himself up and tried to see what it was but he saw nothing, only that now he could hear its growling.

"It's invisible!" Nathan yelled and used the crystal to shoot it with an energy beam, he was pretty sure they had hit it because he felt the floor shake after a loud thud, all Ron could see was furniture and property breaking,

"Think Ron think, what do you when fighting a monster you can't see." he narrowed his eyes while pressing his lips. Then just charged forward and spread his arms like he was about to hug the air. Luckily he bumped into the thing, locked his arms around it, then swung it into his mom's bedroom. It landed in her closet and its ability to become invisible started to wear off as he could now see small bits of its grayish skin.

"Use the sword." Thera's voice echoed in his head, and the golden sword had already appeared in his hand, but there was one problem he didn't how to use a sword. The creature stood up and its face finally appeared. Which was unlike anything Ron had ever seen. It had a wolf face, and the rest of its body resembled that of a tall skinny man with very long arms and legs. The rest of its skin was gray and its eyes were like those of a cat.

The monster leaped and Ron put his sword forward and cowered behind it while squeezing his eyes shut. A sudden beam of light hit the creature and it was sent flying through the wall and crashed onto the roof of the house across the street.

Ron opened his eyes thinking it was him. Was he victorious once more? He must be on a monster fighting streak today,

"That was close," Nathan said,

Ron turned, and Nathan standing at the door holding out his free hand with the crystal in the other. Meaning it was Nathan who had defeated the monster. Hence he was just being your normal every average coward. But it wasn't his fault, right? It has just been a few days ever since he became a godslayer.

He immediately forgot about the attack when he heard screams coming from the nearby house. He ran to see what was going on through the hole they had made through his house, and to his surprise, the creature was still alive. It glared while growling at him, then disappeared instantly.

"What's that thing?"

"They are called shapeshifters, kanjus to be exact very rare and scary, It's hard to find them in Midgard. it must've been looking for something," Nathan said,

"Um…Ron, I think you need to see this," Ellen called out from downstairs.

They ran down the stairs and Ron couldn't believe what he was looking at. Ellen had pulled out most of the wooden planks of the floor and had retrieved a wooden treasure box from under it with the name Carter written on its surface.

Ron reached for the lid and slowly lifted the lid. The box must have been ages old because the hinges made a very high-pitched annoying sound as he opened it. The box contained black and white photos of his father like they were taken in the early nineteen hundreds. But that isn't what caught his eyes, what caught his eyes was a big thick envelope marked: PRIVATE RESEARCH 1903.

He rushed to remove the seal, and within it was a black VHS tape that belonged to his father, he always had a taste for outdated goods when it came to technology and fashion.

He was still going through the box, they heard the alarming sounds made by police car sirens. Nathan rushed to check and spotted three police cars stop right in front of the house. Someone must have dialed 9-1-1 over concern from the noise they were making. Without forgetting the huge hole in the wall. Ron quickly shoved the tape down the envelope, picked up a few pictures from the box and tossed it back on the ground then placed the wooden planks back on the floor.

The door slammed open, "This is the police!" and the officer ran and barged in, with his gun pointing forward of him. To his surprise there was no one, he signaled the rest of his team and they stormed the entire house. But there was no sign of Ron or anyone at all.

Khonshu's face looked terrified. He was facing something, he couldn't describe by just looking at it. Because of the darkness that was in the room. He seemed to be standing on black marble and in front of him was a huge throne. He wasn't there physically, but rather an astral projection of his soul.

Tell me about the boy Khonshu, why is he so special?" The figure began. Its voice was deep

Khonshu's hands were shaking, "The boy is-The boys is- boy is," his voice was breaking due to fear, "The boy is a reincarnation of a powerful god, I don't know which one but I could sense his power was enormous by just being close to him. He's a threat to your mission, I suggest you get rid of him before he discovers his true potential."

"Hmm…Do happen to know which god he might be," the figure asked

"No, my lord, the guardian refused to tell who it is," Khonshu replied.

"Fine, you've done well Khonshu. You may leave now,"

"My lord, you said that if I help you, you will grant me an avatar."

After saying that, a kanju walked out of the darkness and stood right in front of him, this was a female kanju with half of its body being a snake, the top side being human.

"What is the meaning of this?" Khonshu was starting to breathe loudly.

The figure laughed and answered, "Your reward."

The creature jumped on Khonshu and started to feast on his soul. Khonshu screamed as the things bit his skin off and continued screaming till he was finally dead.

"Send men to the world Forge, I need to see that boy myself." that order was meant for the man in the gray suit who was standing right next to its throne from the left-hand side.
