My duty is to exterminate them, to ensure that no one else suffers under their influence. Until that's done, I can't afford any distractions—not even ones that mean as much as you do to me."
Lucy's wings fluttered briefly, and though her expression was unreadable, she gave a faint nod. "I understand," she said quietly. "Do what you need to do, Linsley. I'll be here when you're ready."
Ted cleared his throat, awkwardly breaking the moment. "So, uh, we're all in agreement then? Unify the world, eradicate the remnants of the Outer Gods, and deal with that virus? Sounds like a solid plan."
Aurielle chuckled, crossing her arms as her flux flickered mischievously. "Oh, definitely a plan. Though I have to say, the whole heartfelt confession thing really raised the stakes. Don't screw this up, Linsley."
