3 3. Background

3 years have passed since then and Bai Cong is now 3 and a half years old. Due to his constant meditation and physical exercises, Bai Cong is quite tall for his age, standing at around 4 feet in height with a lean body that's not too thin.

Over the years, the Bai family have continually been surprised at Bai Cong's development. Not only did Bai Cong learn how to walk without needing anyone's assistance at the age of 5 months, he also learned how to speak half a year later.

All of his accomplishments made Grandfather Bai laugh with jubilation every time he thought about them him.

Right now, Bai Cong was in the family library looking through book after book on information about where he was. Based on what he gathered so far, Bai Cong figured out that he was in the higher plane called Nirvana. The plane that he had been in previously was the Dixia plane, which was the lowest out of all three planes. The middle plane is called Zhongjian. All the planes together make up the Gamma dimension.

The higher plane is split up into five regions which are ruled by five families. The Royal family is situated in the middle of the plane while the four other families are situated on the perimeter. Besides the Royal family, the other four families are the Bai family, who rule the Bing region, the Hong Family rule the Huo region, the Chen Family rule the Bo region, and the Odessa Family rule the Omid region.

Bai Cong searched through all the books but he couldn't find any information on the Bai Family which he found puzzling.

"Cong'er there you are." A voice sounded from behind him.

Bai Cong turned around and saw his mother approaching him with a face full of worry.

"I was looking all over the place for you. Who knew you would be in this library." She said as she bent over to look at the book that was laying open in front of Bai Cong.

She then giggled. "Cong'er, how can you read these kinds of books. You won't understand anything." Mother Bai said with a slight smile. She picked Bai Cong and the book up from the ground. She then walked up to the bookshelf and slid the book in before she took Bai Cong to a table and sat him down on her lap.

"Mother, your son wants to know the history of our family." Bai Cong said after a thinking for a while.

Mother Bai looked surprised when she heard that. "You want to know the history of our family?"

Bai Cong nodded his head.

A troubled look came over Mother Bai's eyes but it quickly disappeared. "Well the Bai Family is part of the five major powers of this plane. We are in control of the Bing region which is the coldest out of all the regions.' Mother bai said.

"Out of all five of the powers, we of the Bai Family, is considered the most secretive. We don't interact with the other powers unless it is necessary so not a lot of people know about us." She explained.

"In our family, the family head is your father, Bai Gui. Your grandfather, Bai Sze, is our family ancestor and I, Bai Ying Yu, am the madam of this family." Mother said laughing a little as she pointed at herself.

Bai Cong nodded his head in understanding.

"Mother, your son wants to learn how to read?" Bai Cong asked after a moment of silence.

"You're too young. Don't you know the amount of effort and work that goes into learning? Most kids don't start till later" Mother Bai smiled at him with indulgence as she warned him.

"Mother, your son can still learn." Bai Cong argued. It would be too suspicious if people knew he knew how to read even though he hasn't been taught. So he wanted a formal teacher which would enable him to be able to read more openly.

"Okay, Okay,' Mother Bai appeased him, 'I can talk to your father and see if he can get you this regions most reputed teacher."

"This child thanks you mother." Bai Cong's high pitched voice rang out in the quiet library.

Mother Bai chuckled and set him back on the ground.

"Come, let's go see your brother in the arena." She said as she held out her hand for Bai Cong to take.

Bai Cong grasped it and was led out of the room and into the arena. The arena was situated outside the compound and was a big, circular ditch that was covered in ice. A viewing area was carved into the ice where people could sit and watch the battles that took place within the arena.

Right now Bai Cong could make out three figures standing in the middle of the arena. Two were small while the other was big. As they got closer, Bai Cong saw that the three figures were actually his two elder brothers, Bai Chang and Bai Chen, and his Father Bai Gui.

After three years, Bai Chen is now thirteen years old and is starting to look like an elegant young man with his shoulder-length silver hair. He was attired in a blue robe that was tied in place with a white sash. A gold button with the family emblem, which was a silver dragon wrapped around a white fox, was ordained on the sash. The calm look and slight smile on his face gave the feeling of peace but people close to knew that that smile hid untold ruthlessness. Right now, he was wielding an iron, double-edged sword on both hands.

Bai Chang is now eight years old is leaning more toward the muscularity handsome side when it came to his looks. His silver hair was cut short and he too, wore the same kind of outfit as his brother Bai Chen. Bai Chang, unlike his elder brother, showed his fierceness on his face and an oppressive air seemed to be radiated from around him. He too was holding a sword but his sword was a broadsword.

They were both facing each other while Bai Gui was in the middle. When Bai Cong and Bai Ying Yu got closer to them, all three of them turned to face us.
