Chapter 52. Leila Romanov

Sizzle... sizzle...

A large plump wild boar was hung on a small rotating stick under a large hot campfire as the meat was slow cooked to a beautiful brown color during the peak of the afternoon. A little boy was quietly resting with his back against a tree stump. His eyes fixed on the meat in front of him as he slowly rotated the handle which slowly turned the animal, cooking it evenly.

About five meters from him was a girl of a similar age who was wrapped all around her body in bandages. She had deep dark shaded blue hair with an extremely well-proportioned beautiful face, her extremely weak frail body laid on the natural mattress of soft smooth green grass as an occasional twitch would shake her whole body involuntarily, indicating that she was alive.

"Ugh," a discomforted grunt sounded from her as a beautiful pair of symmetrical electric blue eyes suddenly opened as the girl slowly moved her head. Her confusion-filled face curiously glanced over around the surrounding area as her eyes darted everywhere as she tried to figure out where she was.

Hearing some sound and realizing that she had probably gotten up, glanced towards her and their eyes met in a deadlock.

"Am I in heaven?" she suddenly spoke out slowly as she forced herself up to a seating position.

"Hahahahahaha!" Lex broke out in loud laughter as he desperately held his stomach trying to stop the laughter.

Seeing his reaction to her question, the girl gave him an angry look as she annoyedly asked, "what so funny?"

"Nothing, nothing. Yes, you are in heaven. I am God, nice to meet you," replied Lex as he showed off his best hero pose.

A quiet awkward silence fell as the girl stared at the boy intensely, observing him for a few dozen seconds...

"You're lying. You are not God," the girl blankly spoke after looking at the boy once again.

"Was it you that saved me?" she asked.

"Yeah, it was annoying to do but I got through with it in the end. You're very lucky that I got to you in time," the boy answered.

"Nice to meet you. My name is Lex, Lexus Areia. What yours?" the boy introduced himself as he curiously looked at the girl.

"My name is-"

Grumble...

Just before she could reply to Lex, a loud grumble sound came from her small stomach. Embarrassed, she immediately covered her tummy with both hands as she looked away.

"Haha, I knew that you would be hungry, here come. I made some food for you. You can tell me about yourself while eating, it ready now," spoke Lex as he lightly smiled and walked to the fire and began chopping the pieces of meat from the animal.

The little girl immediately nodded as she patiently waited as Lex cut up a few pieces of meat and brought it to the girl on a large clean green leaf.

As Lex got closer, the girl's eyes lit up as the aromatic, tender meat invaded into her nose. It seemed like the girl was absolutely starving as she instantly gobbled up the food, not even leaving a crumb or piece on the ground.

Lex restarted the conversation by asking, "ok, so why don't you tell me a little bit about yourself?"

The little girl nodded nervously and started speaking softly, " My name is Leila Romanov. I am from the small village of Solara. I was an orphan but a family in the village was kind enough to take me in. I am four years old right now."

"I see. I'm also an orphan. but nevermind that, tell me about how you got the wound," Lex asked.

Leila paused a bit as she questioned herself whether she should tell him.

However, due to the feeling of debt towards Lex, she forced herself to regain her composure and began, "Well… You see, it was the village offering day in our village where we offer a tribute to a sect nearby. That day we must sacrifice anything that they ask for on this day. There was a boy from the sect that had some noble identity and he asked for me during the ceremony but my parents refused and were assaulted by the villagers and the sect members. I ran into this forest but an old man managed to catch up to me. I really didn't want to go with him so I took his knife and tried to stab him but he was too strong so I decided to try and end my life."

"I see," said Lex as he stopped eating and placed his food down on the ground and walked to her. He stood there for a few seconds with a completely unreadable face that caused Leila's heartbeat to go berserk and thump loudly with fear.

Lex slowly reached his hand out...

'Oh no! He is also here for me. I'm going to die,' she thought as she closed her eyes frustratedly. She did not have the will or the strength to resist and move anymore.

Pat… Pat...

'Huh?' thought Leila as she opened her eyes in confusion. Just a second ago, she was completely sure that she was about to have her life finished but instead, Lex's hand fell and patted Leila's little blue head.

"You poor girl. Sigh… Don't worry, you are fine now. Here, eat some more until you are full. I can take you back to the village but we will have to get permission from my brother and big sister first, " spoke Lex as he caringly rubbed her hair while he consolingly smiled.

Leila confusedly looked at Lex as she blankly stared at him. Feeling the awkwardness in the air, Lex excused himself and walked to the boar and brought her another serving of food.

"Eat as much as you want. I'm going to go train by the river. Call me if you need anything, " said Lex as he slowly walked towards the bank.

Upon approaching, he began practicing his swordplay as he began swinging the sword and practiced a series of moves.

Swish

Lex vertically slashed towards the water as he included a wisp of his energy into it and a huge explosion occurred as about a large amount of clear blue water flew about five meters into the air, forming a long wave that spread to the other side of the shore.

Seeing this scene, Leila was absolutely shell shocked, she had never seen anyone do this before Especially, someone as young as Lex, she had never seen it before. Back when she was saved, she had thought that Lex was just a boy who managed to save her through sheer luck but it seemed like he had a deeper and more mysterious identity.

Thirty or so minutes passed as Lex continued training while Leila keenly observed him danced with the sword while happily eating the meat.

Suddenly a rustle sounded in the green bushes behind and the sweet calming voice of a young girl called out.

"Hey, Lex!"
