The Starting

We were having an assembly when the apocalypse started. My name is Tang Jun Wen. I'm a transfer student from China to Malaysia. I'm leaving this story behind of me before I cross on to the other just in case… you know, shit happens sometimes. What I'm about to tell you is the downfall of human civilization. Where the gods of old decided they were too bored and decided to play a game with us. People over 20 years old were wiped out. More than 80% of the people on earth died. Leaving a bunch of us teenagers out there in the world. Then when we just started to get ourselves organized, the fire came. It rained fire, many people died again. Leaving the remaining humanity lesser than 12%

Then the gods came. They started offering choices. Choosing people that they thought were worthy to become their hosts. The chosen one's, started to live wealthy lives, while the people who weren't chosen only had one ending. Being slaves or mercenaries of the chosen. Just when everything seemed to be getting normal, the gods let loose the monsters of the abyss to torment humanity. Those who were Chosen were supposed to protect us. But most of the Chosen lived lazy lives. Only a portion of the Chosen who trained before the monsters came, survived. Those who survived went on to the next world for another game. But that's a story for another day.

I'm sorry I went rambling away. But I just wanted to get the basics across just in case. The world we were in, Earth. Had a chance to start anew.

It was on the 25th of May when the apocalypse happened. We were having an assembly, the teachers were on the stage having their speech when a loud alarm sounded. Blasting through the whole street. I covered my ears in pain as the alarm went on about a minute. When the alarm stopped, my ears were ringing. Everyone around me seemed to be in a state of daze.

"What happened?" a friend of mine, Ken asked.

"Do I look like I know anything?" I shook my head and tried to get my ringing ears to stop. I tried to get my bearings when I happened to look up on the stage. The adults were standing there like statues. We started to ask the teachers what happened, what was the alarm about, what should we do but we got no response.

A student started to get impatient and walked right up the stairs to the stage for an explanation.

That's when the screaming started.

Blood was trickling out of the eyes and ears of the teachers. The student who went up the stage fell down in terror and started screaming. When the others finally restored their senses, the whole hall were filled with screams of terror.

Ken grabbed my shoulders and started asking. "Am I dreaming?! Did you see that?! DID YOU SEE THAT?!"

I stared at the teachers. They were standing as still as a statue, but I could feel that they were just hollow bodies of what's left behind. "Call the police!" someone yelled. "This is a terrorist attack! We need to run!" another yelled. In an instance, the hall panicked and everyone were rushing to the doors, to get out of here. Ken grabbed my hand and started pulling me towards the doors. "We need to get out of here! Out of this… haunted place. We need to… TANG! What are you doing?!"

I noticed a figure hiding behind the row of bodies of our teachers.

"You go ahead Ken. I've got something to do. I need to make sure of something."

"No, Tang. You're coming with me. We need to get out of here NOW." Ken grabbed my hands and spoke. "Have you forgotten the movies we've seen? This is where the zombie apocalypse is coming. If this is a terrorist attack, have you heard gunshots? If they're using biological weapons, why are we spared? God knows what is going to happen if you approach those… bodies."

"Ken, you've gotta trust me on this. I have a feeling the truth behind this is just behind the row of bodies."

The both of us stayed silent. The other people already scrambled out of the hall and were running away towards the street seeking for help. Finally, Ken sighed and took a step forward. "Let's go. Just a peek and we're gonna get out of here, okay?"

I nodded my head and started walking softly up the stage.

The row of bodies were creepy. The floor of the stage was filed with blood. I could still hear the dripping sounds of blood dropping onto the floor. I grabbed a cane from our school chief's hands and started walking slowly towards the back of the row of bodies.

I started to sweat; my palms were sweating so much the cane almost slipped out of my hands. In a flash, I took a steady stance and jumped to the back to the row of bodies. But there was nothing there.
