Chapter 5: Seraphine

At the same time the Goblins prepared to raid the village.

A horse-drawn carriage crossed an unpaved road, traveling on its way to the largest house in the village. Inside the carriage, a 16-year-old girl looked out over the village with a nostalgic expression.

She had a round face with lovely cheeks, blonde hair in a tousled bun and striking sky blue eyes. A petite figure, short in stature at about 4.9 feet, dressed in a black robe that covered up to her ankles, but unable to hide those two mountains.

"Seraphina, my daughter, I hope you had a good journey from the Royal Academy." The man spoke, establishing his relationship with the young girl.

"The journey has been smooth. Dad, I missed you" as she focused his eyes on his loving father.

Unbeknownst to them, the eyes of a small green creature had seen this interaction.

"All ready?" asked the chieftain to the various HobGoblin leaders as he looked around the village with greedy eyes. The most imposing one in the room with his 6.5 feet, his scarred body and his big axe. 'Yes, chief, everyone is ready to storm the village,' replied one of the leaders.

"So, remember, the target is the barn, the fields and young women. GOOO!!!!' comes a confident shout from the chieftain who is leading the group that will fight up front. From our position, we see a few hundred Goblins charging into the village now frantic to prepare for the assault.

"Shall we?" said Rina as she gripped her sword tighter.

"I should be the one to ask you that question" as I grabbed the bow and arrow and flexed my legs to run towards the peaceful houses.

From the battle zone of the chieftain and HobGoblin leaders spells of all sorts were cast, in their eyes it was as if fireworks had been launched.

"Sir!!!, it's an emergency, the village is under attack by hundreds of goblins!"

"Seraphina, stay here and do not leave. We will repel the attack and I will come back for you." Those were his father's last words before joining forces with other men to defend the territory.

This was not the first assault the village had suffered at the hands of the goblins, Seraphina knew this well, her mother died shortly after she was born because of them and although most attacks never came to anything, they always made Seraphina nervous and scared.

As the minutes passed, Seraphina could hear explosions and a mixture of euphoric and desperate screams from Goblins and humans alike.

The first Low Goblins were beginning to arrive in the area of the house where she was hiding and behind them some High Goblins who were looking for humans to kidnap and enslave.

Seeing this, he knew he had to fight and buy time for his father to arrive. He took his scepter and with some water element spells he managed to kill and slow down the Goblins, except for two.

"She is mine," said the High Goblin with the long bow and silver hair.

"Are you sure brother?" replied the other High Goblin with a smile on her lips.

"Yes," he said with a confident and assured look.

"Alright, call me if you need anything," said the Goblin girl before leaving in the direction of other houses.

"Go to hell...!!!" Seraphina confidently pointed her scepter at the Goblin as 3 bullets of water shot towards him. The silver haired goblin dodged with short, graceful movements as she took the opportunity to fire an arrow from his bow.

She parried the arrow with a water shield and he responded by leaping to her right as she fired another arrow to dodge the shield. Barely dodging the arrow and knowing that between the dozen Goblins he had fought before and this Goblin he had very little mana he decided to spend all his mana on a prison bubble where he locked the Goblin up, but not before it shot an arrow that grazed his left arm.

'Shit, it's poisoned' she thought before taking her eyes off the Goblin and pulling out an anti-poison potion. "That potion won't work," she heard right next to her, surprised that the Goblin had tricked her knowing she had little mana to take a chance and hit the poisoned arrow. He too was a water element user and could easily burst her bubble, 'but he didn't do it to make her let her guard down, dammit'. Those were his last thoughts before he lost consciousness not knowing what fate awaited her when she woke up.

"Brother are you ok?" Rina asked me with a worried look on her face before adding "you're an exaggerator, you should have let her help you and we would have defeated her easily" she said with a forced smile knowing she was right.

I was soaked and a bit bruised, luckily neither my sister nor I received any serious cuts or wounds.

I stopped in front of the human girl named Seraphina to give her the poison cure while Rina asks me "What are you giving her?". "The poison cure," I replied. "And the second potion?" as my sister looks at me with a doubtful expression. "Nothing," I replied while holding back a sadistic smile on my lips.

"Come on, let's get the humans back to camp." With quite a bit of tiredness in our bodies and discomfort we carried the three humans, Seraphina's and two more humans that my sister caught to the camp while in the background the bugles sounded marking the retreat. Today's raid was over.

Thank you for reading my novel, this is the first time I wrote about a battle. So if you can rate it with a comment or say that you would change it, help me.
