Chapter 343: Evan, I'm Back (2)

That smile on her pale face was so familiar it nearly brought him to tears.

"Evan," her voice was hoarse, but gentle and pleasant, "I'm back."

Evan Willow's hands, holding a collection of poems, dropped it to the ground, utterly unaware, as he hurried toward her. He reached out to caress her cheek but stopped short, his hand hovering in the air as if he didn't dare to touch.

He was afraid it was just one of the many dreams he had had.

In the past half-year, he had wished countless times that she would wake up, and he had even prepared himself to accept that it was okay if she never did. He would take care of her for life.

Amanda Smith reached out slowly and took Evan Willow's hand, then pressed it against her emaciated cheek. She felt the slight trembling of his fingers and a twinge of sourness in her heart, but still, she tried hard to smile. "Evan, I'm back," she said.
