Chapter7: Massacre

Bodies dropped everywhere that Dominic passed by. Like the Devil's incarnate, equipped with the sword and the devil's mask, he slaughtered everyone thoughtlessly.

Some started to run away from him, others realising he was too strong teamed up to sneak attack him but all this was futile.

"Monster!!!"

"Run, you idiots."

Dominic had martial power, which already did 4 times the damage normal strength did and this is further elevated by the fact that his level was much higher than almost everyone he was fighting. The only people who were even close, were at the top of the leaderboard and considering the fact that they were of all different nationalities, and the fact that they could be anywhere in this massive dimension, Dom had yet to come across anyone strong.

This basically meant he could one hit most normal players no matter their class.

(It many seem that this battle royal concept was extremely disadvantageous to those that are either healers or buffers, as they are primarily only great when in teams. But no one was actually stopping them from forming teams and this was actually quite common.)

"Haha, this awareness skill is great. I don't have to fear sneak attacks and no one can run away if I don't want them to."

Dom was happy about his abilities but he was surprised at the incompetence of the other players.

"I really hope I find someone strong, hopefully a player on the leaderboard so I can kill two birds with one stone. I'll be able to have a good fight and take out my competition."

Without fully knowing how he would find a ranker (someone ranked on the leaderboard), he decided to follow the trail of bodies. His logic was that, where there were the most bodies, is where there is the strongest players as the players are getting killed faster than they can revive. This means that someone strong must be responsible.

As he searched for someone strong, killing whoever he found in his way helped him level up even further. He planned to surpass level 20 and see if he gets any benefits for doing so.

Finally, Dom found out that he had come across someone strong, who now stood across him. The man, with his knife in hand was ready to pounce on Dominic. With no one else around them, it was clear that this was a fight between the two tigers that stood on this mountain of corpses.

The only way for others to have an item would be to open the shop function meaning that they were over level 10. This would also most likely mean that they were a ranker on the leaderboard. This was quite useful information for Dom however, as he now knew that the items in the system shop were random from everyone.

Without waiting any further, Dominic decided to engage his foe, who was ranked 27th in the leaderboard hailed from America. He looked like an assassin, while being equipped with the small knife. His name was Roy bricks and was actually the son of a massive business chain that existed all over the world, known as Bricks. But this info was naturally not so important to Dom at this moment as they were about to fight to the death.

Dom was extremely surprised when he suddenly turned invisible. The assassin like fellow sprinted towards Dom and used the knife to stab into him. Dom realised that he had made a mistake by being unprepared to confront such an enemy. Not knowing where the enemy was, he got into a defensive stance and braced for impact.

When the assassin's invisibility ran out, he was already behind Dominic. Dom was, therefore, unable to defend against the blow. Shinnngg!!

The knife slashed past his arm but the result shocked both the assassin and Dom.

Nothing…

There was nothing there. Well upon closer inspection there seemed to be a small red line on his hand and it seemed to swell slowly, as if you had been scratched by your pet dog.

"Haahahaha."

"That was a close one."

Dom gloated after seeing that the opponent couldn't inflict any amount of substantial damage on to him.

"Youu!"

"Just how are you unscathed after being hit by my F-grade knife?"

The assassin stuttered not knowing what to do next. Obviously, Dom used this opportunity to strike using his sword. He decide to try infusing some aether into it, realising that he had yet to use this power of his.

Unlike what had happened before, it was a clean slice. Blood rained on the floor like a fountain as he was decapitated.

This fight, although over quickly, helped him learn that he lacked fighting instinct and he needed to fully grasp all of his powers. Knowing what to do next, he moved forward and since he used everything he had, he had almost doubled the kills of the person in second. The gap was still increasing as he had come to the realisation that he could use Aether to attack many targets at once. He infused it with the flame attribute, which was the best he could do for now but it was good enough to kill players with ease.

Time ticked by and Dom had managed to rack up more kills than he could even count. With 10 minutes left he had managed to reach level 20 and he wasn't slowing down soon either.

He turned around to a group of players that were obliviously fighting together with each other. Since he didn't want to go through the trouble of eliminating them individually, he decided to use Aether to kill them all in a flash. He also saw that a healer was present in the group which meant that they could heal the members if they get injured. This was why it was quite beneficial to form teams and to have at least one healer in it. Unfortunately, the players realised this too late and was not able to use this, too much, to their advantage. Since Dom wasn't that proficient at using Aether, he had to take his time to accumulate surrounding mana to build up enough power to kill them all. After that all he had to do was to infuse it with the fire affinity and… Boom!!

All dead.

Since he was now at level 20, he needed much more Exp to level up, which meant that killing 32 players will only get him one level. Since he was starting to run out of Aether, Dom decided to continue killing using his weapon, as he wanted to be as far ahead of everyone else as possible. But Dom had noticed that the Exp requirement to level up had increased drastically from level 19 to 20 as now he needed 3000 to level up.

["There is one minute remaining"]

The mysterious voice warned them along with the red countdown that appeared on their system panels. The momentum of most players slowed down as the fighting was about to end but Dom wasn't one of these people. And he didn't let this opportunity slide either, as he killed as many players as possible and his speed allowed him to take them by surprise, which saved him a lot of time. With only a few second left, Dominic reached level 22 and he collapsed on to the floor in exhaustion as he was mentally worn out from the massacre he caused.

[Training has ended. Final results are being calculated]

[1st : Death - kills: 420

2nd: Gwen - kills: 197

3rd : Kim - kills: 182

4th : Aurelia - kills: 168

5th : Demon9 - kills: 164

6th : Krish - kills: 159]

The leaderboard kept going till the top 100 and the person in 100th place got 125 kills. This may seem small for 100th place when there is hundreds of millions of people, but many people, who were weak, would've been more equally matched. This meant that they would've had to battle for a lot longer to get one kill. Only the players in the top 1000 or so were that much stronger than the rest that they could hunt others and get kills efficiently.

[As mentioned previously, the more kills you get the better the rewards you get.]

[Naturally, healers and buffers will be rewarded for the amount of healing that they did and healing others also helped them gain Exp and level up.]

Dom was ecstatic to hear this as he had beaten almost everyone by a massive margin. He would naturally be awarded accordingly.

[Training Reward: For getting 420 kills you receive 42000 gold and 21 skill points]

[1st place reward: Random S rank skill ticket and an A rank invisible armour]

This may seem like a lot for any player to get at the start, but considering the average amount of kills the players got was about 15, this meant that most only got about 1500 gold and 1 single skill point. The rewards are only so exaggerated because for Dom, because he got almost 30 times the average. Hence he got 30 times the reward.

Naturally the reward for first place is also very good but the top 100 received rewards as well, although they were nowhere near as good. For example the 100th place player only received a C rank armour but the 10th place received an B-rank armour.

Without a doubt, everyone that was not in the top 100 ranking was jealous of the rewards they received but they could do nothing about it, as at this point, your ranking correlated to your level and your level correlated to the players' strength.

Dominic was almost delirious from what he had achieved. After all, it's almost impossible to not develop an inferiority complex after being treated as a slave for so long, and finally being on top, felt like a dream to him. He knew that he had to do what ever was necessary to keep things this way from now on.
