Chapter 39: Infinite Possibilities

He spins me around in his arms. "Open your eyes and look at me," he commands.

My eyes open and I peer up at him. "Please, I don't want to be in here." My eyes water.

"Tell me what you saw on the footboard that scared you, ma belle." He caresses my cheek.

"There are restraints hanging off it. Now, please, can we leave?"

"Just because they are there does not mean we have to use them," he replies in a calm and controlled voice. "Your memory is quite remarkable, even under duress. I have a feeling you could have provided even more descriptive comments than you did."

He coaxes me toward the bed and every muscle in my body stiffens.

"I am not going to hurt you, Julia, you know this."

Alexandre eases onto the side of the bed.

"What are you going to do?" I ask, lacing my hands together in front of me as I sit.
