Chapter 30: Moving On

Lucky's POV:

After Angel's death, I was heartbroken. I couldn't feel anymore. I grew so depressed. Marcus and Kacey worried about me. Everyone did. I wasn't complete without my mate by my side, helping me through everything. I couldn't do it. But I had to do it for her. For our daughter. She was my world now. I glanced at Serenity in the mirror, as I drove the car. When Angel passed, she left a note for me. She wanted me to name our daughter Serenity, cause that's what she found. I loved the name. Me and Serenity were headed to our new house to start our new life. Marcus found us a house so I was on the way there. He was gonna help me raise her. He and his wife, Keisha, were gonna move in with us.

Keisha seems like she would be a great mother figure to Serenity. I looked at Serenity. She was silent. She stared out the window and watched as the trees whizzed by. "Serenity?" I called. She slowly looked at me. Her eyes held a sad emotion. "Yes?" She said, in a high voice. "You okay?" I asked. She shook her head. "What's wrong?" I asked. She opened her mouth but closed it. She shook her head. A tear escaped her eyes as she turned back towards the window.

"Serenity what's wrong?" I asked. She shook her head and didn't say anything. I got agitated and pulled over to the side of the road. I turned around and looked at her. "Serenity, baby, what's wrong?" I asked, trying to keep myself calm. I hated when she gets like this. She clams up just like Angel did. She started to glitch out of existence. She does that when she's scared. She does that as a result of the poison Elizabeth gave Angel. She didn't go anywhere nor did she felt any pain but it still scared me. I still remember that day. Angel dying in the hospital. Finding her body and my baby at Light Lake in the cave. I still couldn't believe Elizabeth poisoned Angel and my babygirl. I didn't even go to her funeral but I went to Angel's. Seeing her casket lowered into the ground made me break down all over again.

Marcus comforted me but it wasn't enough. I wanted Angel back. I took good care of our daughter. It was hard though. As she grew older, she look more and more like Angel. I couldn't look at Serenity without tearing up. She thought she had did something but it wasn't her. I just couldn't get over Angel. I did though. Two years ago. Serenity is now five years old. I cried so hard one day, that I called Keisha to come get her. I didn't want Serenity seeing me cry over her mother. She only saw Angel over some pictures I took when Angel was alive. The Magic Council has been respectful to not experiment on Serenity, considering she was the only UniHybrid in existence now. Angel was no longer here so she was second. The only way to ensure the UniHybrid species doesn't disappear was if Serenity has kids.

As a father, I don't want that. But I do want the UniHybrid species to continue. If Angel was here, that wouldn't be a problem. "Serenity, please tell me what's wrong." I said. She looked at me. "Why did we have to move?" She asked. "To start a better life." I said. She stared at me. "But don't you wanna be where Mama used to be?" She asked. I stared at her. She knows about Angel from me, Marcus, Keisha, everyone. Even though she never met Angel, I wanted her to know who her mother is. "Of course Serenity, but sometimes it's best to start moving on." I said. She looked down at her hands and began glitching out again. "Don't you want Mama to know your moving on?" I asked. She looked at me. "She already told me." She said. I nodded. Her being a UniHybrid, she was part Raider.

Raiders could talk to the dead. I walked in on Serenity talking to 'Mama'. I thought she had an imaginary friend she was talking to. That was til she said her name was Angel and she claimed it was her mother. It caught my attention, considering I never even thought about telling her about Angel. Since then, I told her about Angel and made everyone else tell her about Angel. Serenity said Angel was always around us and I wondered why so I had a tea party with her. I was curious as to what Angel and Serenity talk about but I just hope it's not anything bad. "Look, Serenity, how about we go get some food first. Then we go to our new home?" I asked. She smiled. "Okay Daddy." She said.

I smiled and drove off. I drove around til I came to our new town. I looked around and saw a McDonald's. I pulled up and got out, with Serenity in front of me. Since Angel's death, I didn't wanna take my eyes off of her, for fear of losing her too. We walked in and went up to the counter. Serenity knew to be careful not to get scared in public, in case she started glitching cause she could expose herself in front of humans. We walked up to the lady. "Hi. What can I get for you?" She asked. "Go on Serenity." I said. She looked down. I crouched down. "Go on. She's a nice lady." I said. Serenity pointed at something. "I want that one." She said. "What's 'that one'?" I asked. "That one Daddy!" She said. I looked to what she was pointing. "Oh. She'll have some tenders." I said.

"And what kind of sauce?" The lady asked. Serenity looked at me. "Ranch and buffalo." I said. "Coming right up." The lady said. She eyed me and bit her lip. Not thanks. Not interested? Not right now. Ever since Serenity was born, everyone has been trying to get me to date. I'm not interested. No one could replace Angel. The lady gave us our cups to fill. We walked over to the drink station. "Daddy?" Serenity called. "Hmm?" I said. "That man has a toy with his food." She said, pointing. I turned around to see a man with a kids meal in front of him, while eating his own. There was a stuffed unicorn in front of him. Serenity ran over and grabbed it. "Serenity!!!" I said, as I ran to get her. "I am so sorry." I said. The man looked at me and we locked eyes. He smiled at me. I smiled at him. No. I can't move on. You have to. It's what Angel would've wanted. "Oh hey man. It's alright." The man said.

"Daddy, can I have it?" Serenity asked. "No." I said. "She can have it." The man said. I smiled at him. "Thanks." Serenity said. "Yeah this kids meal is for my daughter but she got too many toys already." He said. He held out his hand. "I'm Jordan." He said. "I'm Lucky." I said, as I shook his hand. His hand was warm. "Lucky. Interesting name. Does that mean you bring good luck?" He asked, jokingly. I chuckled. "No. That's just my name." I said. "Who might this Angel be?" He asked, looking at Serenity. Serenity looked up at me. "Go on. Tell him your name." I said. "My name is Serenity." Serenity said. "Wow. That's such a beautiful name." Jordan said. "Yeah. My mama named me that." She said. "Your Mama is a smart woman." He said. I smiled at him.

"Serenity, why don't you go fill up our drinks?" I said. She nodded. I sat down but kept my eye on her. "Sweet one she is." Jordan said. I nodded. "Yeah she is." I said. "Her mother must be a lucky woman." He said. I looked at him. "What do you mean?" I asked. He shook his head. "Never mind." He said, as he stood up to leave. "No wait." I said, as I grabbed his arm. It was so warm. I blushed. "Um, I never seen you guys around here before. You guys new in town?" He asked. "Uh, yeah. We just moved here today. Thought we'd stop for food first." I said. Jordan nodded. "So uh, where's the wife?" He asked. I was confused. "Wife?" I repeated. "Yeah. The mother of your child? Where is she?" He asked. I scratched my head. "She's, uh, dead." I said, awkwardly. His face flushed. "Oh my God. I am so sorry." He said.

"No. It's cool. Um, so where's your girlfriend?" I asked. "Don't have one. I just have kids by different women. I had egg donors. I'm gay." He said. "Oh. Well I'm bi." I said, without thinking. "Oh hey. Rights!!" He said. We both laughed. Then I heard the number of our order. I went to pick it up. I grabbed Serenity and went out the door. Jordan followed us. "Uh hey Lucky?" He called. "Yes?" I said. "You wanna do something later?" He asked. I nodded. "Sure." I said. Then I kissed him on an impulse. He was in shock. "Whoa." He said. "Oh my God. I am so sorry." I said. He smiled. "It's cool. Don't worry about it. He's my number." He said. He licked his lips and walked off to his car. He drove off, but not before giving me a look. I knew what it meant. It was a look Angel used all the time. I got in the car and drove off. "Daddy?" Serenity called. "Yes princess?" I said.

"Why did you kiss that man?" She asked. My face grew pale. "Uh what?" I asked. "You kissed Jordan. Why'd you do that?" She asked. I stuttered. "I-I don't know." I said. Fuuuuuuucccckkkkkk. "Dad, are you gay?" She asked. I chuckled. "Serenity do you know what gay is?" I asked. "Gay means both happy and that someone likes someone of their own gender." She said. Well damn. "Um no sweetheart. I'm not gay." I said. "Then why'd you kiss Jordan?" She asked. She's bound to find out the truth one day. "Because I'm a bisexual Serenity." I said. "What's that?" She asked. "It's when someone likes people from both sides of the coin. I like both boys and girls." I said. "Oh." I said. I glanced at her, as she grew quiet. "Am I bisexual?" She asked, after a minute.

"It's up to you to decide Serenity. But I'd rather you wait a few more years before your decide that, okay?" I said. "Okay Daddy." She said. Another few minutes of silence go by. "But like, how does someone know their bisexual?" She asked. "When you realize you like girls but still like boys." I said. I'd rather she likes just girls. No boys!!! "I still like boys." She said. DAMN IT!!! "No Serenity. Please just wait a few years." I said. "But I like boys Daddy." She said. I screamed internally. "Okay." I said, through gritted teeth. I pulled up to our new house. I already saw Marcus's car in the driveway.

I parked and got out. "Aye yo people!!!" Marcus yelled out. "Uncle Marcus!!!" Serenity cried out, as she ran into his arms. He scooped her up. "Oh!! My back!! My back!!! Girl you getting big!!" He said. "Yeah. I'm a big girl!!" She said. I smiled and shook my head. I unloaded our suitcases and carried them inside. "Aunt Keisha!" Serenity yelled. "There's my babygirl." I heard Keisha say. Marcus came up to me. "Hey man. Where y'all been?" He asked. "Got food on the way." I said. Keisha came out and hugged me. "Took forever to get here." She said. "Girl shut up." I said, laughing. Marcus helped me with our bags. He paused and sniffed me. "Who been on you?" He asked. I smiled. "I met a guy named Jordan." I said. "Uh oh." Keisha said, smiling. "Oh my God. He's so cute." I said. "Black to white?" Keisha asked. "Black." I said. "Ayeeee turn up!!! So when do we get to meet him?" She asked.

"Not now. I wanna get to know him before I let him in." I said. "He's your new mate I'm guessing?" Marcus said. I shook my head. "Oh. Well don't wait around bro." He said. "I wanna be totally sure though. I don't want to just bring a stranger around Serenity." I said. I looked around for her. "Where is she anyways?" I asked, curiously. "In there playing with her cousin." Keisha said. "How's Junior?" I asked. "Still bad as hell." Keisha said. "I have an idea where he gets it from." Marcus muttered. I snickered. "Say what?" Keisha asked. "Nothing! Kacey!!!" Marcus yelled, as he ran into the house. I walked in behind him. I looked around. Marcus did a good job getting the house ready for us. I walked around til I walked past a room. Serenity was in it. "Serenity?" I called. She didn't turn around.

She was staring at something. I put the bags down and walked in and that's when I seen it. The room was filled with pictures of Angel and me. Us smiling, laughing, talking, our maternity shoot, everything. Even all of Angel's ultrasounds, even of the baby we lost thanks to Elizabeth. "Daddy, what's this?" Serenity asked. I walked up to it. "That's the first baby we had." I said. "Was that me?" She asked. I shook my head. "No sweetie. That was someone else." I said. "Who?" She asked. "Someone I wish I could've met." I said. Serenity then hugged me. I hugged her back. "Mama says to be happy." She said. I looked at her. She smiled at me and pointed at a corner of the room. Then Angel appeared in the corner. I gasped. She smiled at me.

I wanted to hug her more than anything. I wanted to feel her body against mine one more time. She said something but it just sounded like wind blowing. "She said she loves you." Serenity said. A tear escaped my eyes. "I love you too Angel." I said. She smiled then disappeared. I broke down crying again. Keisha came in. "What's wrong?" She asked. "Mama was just here. She told Daddy she loves him." Serenity said. Keisha smiled. Serenity pointed to the corner. Angel appeared again. Keisha started to cry too. Marcus came in and saw Angel. He smiled at her. She said something and again, it sounded like wind blowing. "She said she loves us all and to be happy." Serenity said. Angel said something else. "Daddy, Mama said to be happy with Jordan." She said. I smiled. "I'll always love you Angel." I said. She grinned at me. Then she faded away.

"I'm happy to see my little sister again." Keisha said. "Me too." I said. We spent the rest of the day settling in. I talked to Kacey who said she saw Angel in a vision. Apparently, Kacey and Serenity have been in the Void, which is where psychics and Raiders go to speak to the dead. Angel is happy in the afterlife. Hopefully I'll get to see her one day. For now, I'm just gonna live my life.

Ten Years Later*

"Serenity!!!" I yelled out. "I said I was coming!!!" She yelled. She came running downstairs. I looked her up and down. "Girl if you don't take yo ass back upstairs and change." I threatened. "Why? Ain't nothing wrong with what I got on." She said, as she tried to walk past me. I grabbed her hair. I snarled in her ear. "Take yo ass upstairs and change. I'm not playing with you!" I said. She glared at me and she teleported upstairs. "Ah ha!!!" Da'Arron said. "Da'Arron stop." I said. "What? She always thinking she grown." He said. After me and Jordan dated for four months, we moved in together. He talked about having more kids but we had four already. He had two boys and a girl.

DJ and Jackie walked in behind Da'Arron. "Y'all need to leave her alone. She ain't did nothing wrong." Jackie said. "What you mean? You always defending her." Jackson said. They all got into an argument. I shook my head. Even though I love all of them to death, I sometimes wish they'd run away. Serenity came back down with a hoodie on. "Uh Uh. Come here." I said. She reluctantly came over to me. I looked inside her hoodie. "See? I'm wearing ugly clothes now. Can I go?" She asked. I glared at her. "You need to stop hanging around your Aunt Keisha." I said. "And you need to stop babying me." She said, icily. "You know what? No. Your not going to that party." I said. She scoffed. "Are you serious?" She said. "Dead serious." I said. "Ah ha." Jackson said. Serenity slapped him. He snarled at her. "That's it!! Your all not going." I said. They started to argue.

"Stop it!!! Serenity go upstairs and stay there." I said. She growled then ran upstairs. I sighed. "Lucky, it's cool. Stop stressing yourself out." Jackie said. I looked at her. She was the mature one of the group. Serenity was the mature one til she started dating a bad boy. Now she thinks it's cool to act like a bitch. I didn't like the boy but Jordan told me to not worry about it and that she was just going through a phase. It's been a three year phase and shit is getting old. "Lucky, she's right though." Jordan said, as he walked into the room. I looked at him. "About what?" I asked. "You baby her." He said.  "Jordan she's my daughter. I'm just looking out for her." I said. "I know but it wouldn't hurt to loosen the leash a little." He said. I glared at him.

Then we heard a loud crashing sound. I growled and rolled my eyes. "Let me talk to her." Jordan said. "No." I said, as I stormed upstairs. "Serenity." I called. Her door was locked. Oh hell no. I kicked the door open. She looked up at me and glared. "Did I say you can come in?" She asked, angrily. I slammed the door. "What the fuck is your problem?" I asked, angrily. "You!!! You don't let me do anything by myself Dad!!! I'm not a baby!!" She cried. "Well maybe if your stop acting like such a bitch, I'll let you do shit on your own." I said, icily. She glared at me then turned away. I heard her sniffling. I felt an icy cool around me. Then the faint smell of vanilla. Angel. I sighed and looked around. "Mama, talk to him." Serenity whispered.

Angel then appeared and frowned at me. "Angel, I'm only looking out for her." I said. She was able to communicate with me telepathically. "I know Lucky but babying her is only gonna make her feel worse." "I'm only trying to help her." I said. "This is not the way love." I growled and punched the wall. Angel smiled at me. She came over to me. "It's okay Lucky." "I wish you were here Angel." I said. She smiled and kissed my cheek. "Let her live baby. I'll be watching her and keeping an eye on her." I sighed and looked at Serenity who had tears in her eyes. "Serenity I'm only looking out for you baby. I'm just scared something bad might happen to you." I said.

"Dad, I'm a UniHybrid. I can take care of myself. You don't have to worry about anything." She said. I put my head in hands. Serenity hugged me. "I'll be fine Daddy. I promise." She said. I hugged her. "You can go to the party. Just....be careful." I said. She squealed. "I will Daddy. I promise." She said. She kissed my cheek and ran out the room. "Y'all let's go!!!" She yelled. I heard a bunch of running footsteps run out the house then silence. I got up and walked towards Angel's room. I looked around at everything we did. Her ultrasounds of both our babies, our maternity shoot, us kissing, hugging, our friends, everything. I felt arms around me. "You did good babe." Jordan said. I didn't answer. I stared at Angel's picture of us in the hospital of our first baby's ultrasound.

"Lucky, I know you miss her but do you want her here?" Jordan asked. I nodded. "I really do." I said. I felt him tense up. "Do you want her more than me?" He asked, sadly. "No Lucky. Love him baby." I love you Angel. "You can love us both. Just love him more than me love. Please. For me." I turned around and kissed Jordan. He picked me up and carried me to our room. We fucked and fell asleep. I got up and walked outside. I sat on the bench in the garden. I've been there awhile. Serenity came out and sat next to me. She rested her head against my chest. "Dad, can I tell you something?" She asked. Please God don't let her be pregnant. "Sure." I said. "I wish Mama was here so you and her can be together. I can tell you love her a lot." She said. "I do." I said.

Just then, Angel appeared. She smiled at me. She came over and sat next to me. I smiled and felt her icy arms around me. "Angel I'm so sorry for everything. You were my everything. My fucking world. You remind me of glass. So beautiful and glossy, yet fragile and delicate. You put with a lot in your life, you put up with your parents, you put up with having a miscarriage, you put up with Elizabeth, me, two pregnancies. You sacrificed yourself for our babygirl. And I thank you for everything." I said. She smiled and came up to me. She kissed me softly and it felt good. "I'll always love you Lucky." Angel smiled then disappeared. I hope to one day join her in the afterlife.
